Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Zhou Lin Had a Car Accident

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t wait for Zhou Lin; she packed some essential living supplies and took several sets of clothes from the cloakroom, placing them in a suitcase before turning around and leaving.

She went to the Cheng family home.

Three months ago, after being discharged from the hospital, she had come here once, only to be faced with an empty house. Zhou Lin explained that because of her parents’ health issues, they had retired early and moved back to their hometown, and her sister had followed to take care of them.

Afterward, she occasionally stopped by, sporadically adding items to make the house feel less empty.

Little did she know that today, it would come in handy.

After tidying up a bit, she went to the supermarket to buy groceries.

When she returned home in a leisurely manner, she saw the man standing at the door, twirling a cigarette between his fingers, his face expressionless.

Cheng Zhiwei paused for a moment.

Zhou Lin’s gaze had already shifted towards her, glancing at her and then at the groceries in her hand, "Why did you suddenly come over?"

Cheng Zhiwei pressed the passcode to unlock the door and said indifferently, "I wanted to stay here for a few days."

Zhou Lin followed her inside without changing his facial expression, and once the door clicked shut, he reached out, pulled Cheng Zhiwei over, and pressed her against the door.

Against the light, his expression was difficult to make out, but one could imagine it wasn’t very pleasant.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t struggle and spoke in an indifferent tone, "I intended to tell you, but considering you might be busy, I just left on my own."

Her speech was casual, as though they were just ordinary friends, and she would just leave on her own when the day came to return home after staying for a few days.

Zhou Lin’s throat moved, and he bent down to pick up the groceries from her hand. He turned and went into the kitchen, placing the items in the refrigerator, and casually asked, "What kind of wedding do you want? Chinese-style or Western-style?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes felt sore, and she turned her head away, not looking at him anymore, "When you have time, we should go get a divorce certificate."

The refrigerator door slammed shut with a loud "bang."

Zhou Lin pulled Cheng Zhiwei against the refrigerator, his eyes reddening with pain, "Why?"

She loved him, didn’t she? In the past, she could brave the heavy rain to pray and get scriptures for him, stay up late talking to him—those deeply engraved years of affection, how could they vanish along with her memory?

Cheng Zhiwei cast her gaze downwards, and said faintly, "We’re incompatible."

"What do you mean we’re incompatible?" Zhou Lin pinched her chin, forcing her to look up, his dark eyes stormy with intensity.

Cheng Zhiwei simply stopped talking.

Zhou Lin looked at her pale face, and asked disappointedly, "Do you think I should ignore Seo Zhenzhen completely?"

He thought Cheng Zhiwei was jealous.

"It’s not that," Cheng Zhiwei frowned, she never felt that he shouldn’t care for Seo Zhenzhen.

Given the events of those years, Zhou Lin had a responsibility to take care of Seo Zhenzhen for a lifetime, and mentioning Bai Zhuzhu, she, Cheng Zhiwei, should also give way.

That was her debt to Seo Zhenzhen.

What concerned her was that he clearly held Seo Zhenzhen in his heart, yet he turned around and entangled with her.

And Seo Zhenzhen, in her presence, brazenly flaunted herself, yet in front of Zhou Lin, she would meekly make concessions, Cheng Zhiwei could imagine if anything happened in the future, Zhou Lin would definitely prioritize Seo Zhenzhen.

Such a life, even thinking about it was frightening.

"So, if you don’t mind, then why ask for a divorce?" Zhou Lin’s eyes held a swirling undertone of resentment, the word divorce had been etched into her bones since she lost her memory and persisted ever since.

Cheng Zhiwei stared at him, and then suddenly asked softly, "Zhou Lin, do you like me?"

All expression vanished from Zhou Lin’s face in an instant, his thin lips pressed into a straight line. His grip on her wrist tightened, and in a low voice, he said, "So, does everything I’ve done for you over the past three months tempt such disdain from you?"

His eyes reddened with anger, and he simply bowed his head and bit down on her lip harshly, grinding forcefully.

Cheng Zhiwei winced in pain as unprovoked grievances surged forth, and tears began to fall one by one, increasing in volume as time passed.

The salty taste reached the tip of her tongue.

Zhou Lin’s movements all froze. He closed his eyes, took a few steps back, and said in a tone neither warm nor fiery, "It turns out I need to go on a business trip. You take some time to calm down, and we’ll talk when I get back."

He turned and walked away with his coat, but after a few steps, he stopped, "I’ll send Wang Mei over to take care of you."

"I don’t want it," Cheng Zhiwei’s hoarse voice came out as a swift rejection.

She didn’t want anything or anyone related to him.

Zhou Lin clenched his fingers and scoffed, dropping two words: "As you wish."

The sound of the door closing heavily echoed. Cheng Zhiwei let out a bitter laugh, slowly slid down to crouch on the ground. Over these three months, Zhou Lin had been considerate and gentle to her, but how much of that kindness was heartfelt?

Her mind became more and more jumbled as she thought about it.

Cheng Zhiwei patted her head, pushing the messy emotions out. She opened the refrigerator door, preparing for lunch.

But looking at the vegetables in the fridge, she didn’t know what she wanted to eat and finally sighed in resignation, closing the refrigerator door.

She’d think about it when she was hungry.

Yet, half an hour later, seeing Wang Mei standing at the door left Cheng Zhiwei somewhat speechless. She had said she didn’t want Wang Mei to come over, but Zhou Lin was really...

"Young Madam," Wang Mei greeted with a smile, "What would you like for lunch?"

Cheng Zhiwei could only let Wang Mei in, saying helplessly, "You don’t need to be busy. Cooking myself can also kill time."

Wang Mei began tidying up the kitchen, "It’s no trouble. I just happened to bring Xiao Bao to the nearby hospital for an injection."

"Hasn’t he recovered yet?" Cheng Zhiwei asked with concern.

"There are two more days of injections to go," Wang Mei replied. "It’s nearly Chinese New Year, and the restaurant is getting busy. His mom wasn’t careful, and his cold got worse, so he has to have injections."

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly had an idea, "Why don’t I go to your family’s restaurant? We can eat together, so you don’t have to run back and forth, and I can help out to pass the time."

Wang Mei dared not ask Cheng Zhiwei for help and quickly dissuaded her, "Young Madam, if you find it boring alone, you can go back and keep Madam company. She will surely be happy, and besides, we’ll get busy with the upcoming New Year."

But Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to go. She was considering divorce and didn’t dare go.

Insisting on following Wang Mei, Cheng Zhiwei finally got her to agree.

Of course, they wouldn’t dare put Cheng Zhiwei to work, so they just let her sit in a corner and eat sunflower seeds. Cheng Zhiwei knew they wouldn’t ask her to do anything, so she took the initiative to help take care of Xiao Bao.

Then, on the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, as snowflakes began to drift from the sky again, Cheng Zhiwei had just finished dinner when she received a call from Secretary Zhang.

Zhou Lin had been in a car accident.

Cheng Zhiwei froze, her fingers unconsciously tightening around her phone. It took her a moment to regain her voice, trembling slightly, "Okay, I’ll come right over."

Cheng Zhiwei quickly arrived at the hospital. The lights in the operating room were still on, the scent of disinfectant cold and heavy, casting a chill.

"How did the car accident happen?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.

Secretary Zhang’s palms were sweaty, and he could only reply in a low voice, "Miss Seo was kidnapped, and during President Zhou’s rescue attempt, the car hit the guardrail and flipped over."
