Chapter 229: I Dreamed of Jumping Off the Boat Holding a Man

Chapter 229: Chapter 229: I Dreamed of Jumping Off the Boat Holding a Man

Cheng Zhiwei had a dream where she stood at the edge of a boat, holding someone. Her body tilted backward and suddenly, she fell into the sea... The water rushed in from all sides, squeezing into every part of her body...

She desperately tried to struggle, but the her in the dream closed her eyes and let her body sink, the seawater choking her airway, the suffocating sensation heavily pressing on her lungs...

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly woke up, sitting up in bed with sweat streaming down her forehead. She reached to wipe it and it felt like she had touched a handful of water.

Her heartbeat pounded in the darkness like thunder.

The very next second, she was wrapped in a blanket and pulled into the arms of Zhou Lin, who had also awakened. His voice was groggy and lazy next to her ear, "Had a nightmare?"

Cheng Zhiwei let herself lie in the crook of his arm, the room dimly lit, everything blurred.

Her ragged breathing gradually steadied, and her voice rose softly in the darkness, "I dreamt that I jumped off the boat holding a man. Was it you?"

She hadn’t seen the man’s face clearly, didn’t know who it was, but she thought perhaps it was Zhou Lin.

After saying this, she distinctly felt the man beside her stiffen, his arm suddenly tightened around her waist, holding her very close.

"I was wrong last night, I scared you," Zhou Lin said as he kissed the corner of her lips, his gaze hiding emotions in the darkness, suppressing the sudden panic.

Had she remembered?

Cheng Zhiwei turned her back to him, her heart still beating irregularly. That image lingered in her mind, but trying to recall more led to nothing but a blank.

Was it just an aftereffect of being frightened?

She didn’t dare to think further and turned her back.

Zhou Lin’s chest immediately pressed up against her, his chin rubbing on top of her head, his voice gentle, "It’s just from the scare. Have a good sleep, alright?"

"Let’s sleep," she said.

"Okay."

The bedroom quieted down, with only the sound of breathing rising and falling.

When Cheng Zhiwei woke up, it was already nine o’clock. Thinking that Wang Mei would not come over until noon, she wrapped herself in the blanket and played with her phone.

The bedroom door opened, and she looked up to see Zhou Lin.

Zhou Lin wore an off-white sweater with his sleeves rolled up, walking to the bed. He looked down at Cheng Zhiwei with a smile in his eyes, "Lazy cat, time to get up."

Half of Cheng Zhiwei’s face was buried in the blanket, her voice muffled, "You’re not going to work?"

"Mhm, I was worried you’d be hungry, so I made breakfast." He reached into the blanket, half-lifting her for a deep morning kiss before handing over her clothes, "The sun is out, come get some warmth."

Cheng Zhiwei grabbed her long hair and dressed slowly, her tone casual, "Alright."

After a quick breakfast, Cheng Zhiwei went out to the balcony to bask in the sun. The winter sun had little warmth yet seemed precious after several days of heavy snow.

As she was dozing off, she heard Zhou Lin talking on the phone with someone, his voice low. By the time she came to, her finger suddenly bore a somewhat cold object.

She looked at her hand in confusion and saw the diamond ring on her ring finger.

In the sunlight, it was exquisite and beautiful.

Zhou Lin kissed her, tender and gentle, "Do you like it?"

Cheng Zhiwei thought, she finally understood why she previously felt something was odd about their marriage.

She had been Zhou Lin’s "wife" for three months, but her finger had been bare, without a ring. She had amnesia; she couldn’t remember, and Zhou Lin also didn’t wear a ring.

"Don’t like it?" Zhou Lin, seeing her just staring at the ring, hooked her long hair with his slender fingers and asked nonchalantly.

Cheng Zhiwei looked down, "It’s beautiful."

Saying that, she took off the ring and placed it in Zhou Lin’s palm, sighing gently, "It seems I’m not really used to wearing a ring. Just keep it."

Zhou Lin’s fingers clenched suddenly. Was it discomfort or dislike?

Or was it because of the dream from last night, memories of Meng Qiancheng resurfacing?

He hooked the corner of his mouth, pinching her fingers as he said, "When spring comes and the weather warms up, let’s have another wedding."

It wasn’t a discussion, but a decision already made.

Cheng Zhiwei froze, the ring and wedding, it all seemed like compensation.

In fact, she had asked herself, could she truly live with Zhou Lin without any misgivings?

She had already sensed something was off.

"Let’s get a divorce, Zhou Lin," Cheng Zhiwei said calmly.

Zhou Lin’s fingers suddenly tightened, gripping her wrist, "What did you say?"

Cheng Zhiwei calmly looked up, her tone steady, "I said let’s get divorced."

As she spoke, she looked out the window, "You say we are husband and wife, but I think, we must also be a pair of resentful spouses."

"Zhiwei."

Just as Zhou Lin was about to speak, his phone rang.

He glanced at it and furrowed his brows, "Speak."

Being close, Cheng Zhiwei heard He Lanzhi’s voice on the other end of the phone, "Ah Lin, Zhenzhen’s condition isn’t looking good."

Zhou Lin had already stood up, his expression serious, "What does the doctor say?"

"She has a fracture. Her leg was already fragile and now injured again; it’s uncertain whether it can heal properly."

This meant Seo Zhenzhen might end up disabled for the rest of her life.

"I know, I’ll be right there." Zhou Lin put away his phone, looked down at Cheng Zhiwei, and pulled her up, "Come with me."

He didn’t want to leave her home alone, lost in wild thoughts.

Upon arriving at the hospital, they heard Seo Zhenzhen’s cries before even entering the ward, "It was so hard for me to finally stand up, I promised Zhuzhu I would help her become the best singer, why has it turned out like this?"

Cheng Zhiwei paused, but Zhou Lin led her in.

Seo Zhenzhen’s tears flowed even harder when she saw Zhou Lin, and she lamented pitifully, "Ah Lin... the doctor says my leg can’t be healed."

He Lanzhi, however, glared at Cheng Zhiwei with a sour expression, "What are you doing here?"

Zhou Lin frowned, "I brought her here."

"You should indeed bring her here to see the good she’s done," He Lanzhi sneered.

Seo Zhenzhen grabbed a pillow and threw it, hitting Zhou Lin, and cried out in despair, "Get her out, get her out... I don’t want to see her..."

He Lanzhi took a deep breath, anger rising, "Get the fuck out, Cheng Zhiwei."

Cheng Zhiwei looked down, slipping her hand from Zhou Lin’s palm, and said softly, "I’ll step out."

Zhou Lin grabbed her wrist, holding on tightly, "Wait for me."

"Okay."

Once Cheng Zhiwei left the ward, she finally felt she could breathe easier. If proposing a divorce before was a spur-of-the-moment decision, then seeing Seo Zhenzhen now had reinforced her resolve.

Seo Zhenzhen had feelings for Zhou Lin, and Zhou Lin had responsibilities towards Seo Zhenzhen. Entangled by such relationships, she believed her marriage was unlikely to be happy.

The ward was filled with crying and shouting for a while until a nurse came in to administer a sedative to Seo Zhenzhen, and quiet descended.

At that moment, Cheng Zhiwei was already on her way back to Sparkling Sky City. When Zhou Lin’s call came in, there was a hint of annoyance in his voice, "Why did you leave?"

"Going back to wait for you."

He was silent for a few seconds, his tone softening a bit, "Alright."
