The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 228: Go and See Her
Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Go and See Her
"She said she didn’t do it, so she didn’t," Zhou Lin’s gaze swept over Seo Zhenzhen indifferently, his tone colder than the sea breeze, "You should hurry and find a doctor to look at her."
After speaking, he left with Cheng Zhiwei in his arms.
He Lanzhi cursed angrily, "He actually defended Cheng Zhiwei, has he forgotten how you suffered back then?"
Seo Zhenzhen gave a bitter smile and said with a pale face, "What can I do when Cheng Zhiwei is the one he likes?"
He Lanzhi hugged her with concern, "I’ll take you to see the doctor."
Zhou Lin brought Cheng Zhiwei straight back to the room, and looking at her pale face, not knowing if it was from the cold or the shock, his fingers curled slightly, and the words stuck in his throat felt somewhat uncomfortable.
It took a long time before he finally said in a softened voice, "Sorry, at that time..."
"You should go check on her," Cheng Zhiwei suddenly spoke with a calm gaze that landed on his face, gentle and compliant, "Her heels were quite high, and after such a fall, I don’t know if she injured her bone."
"Zhiwei," Zhou Lin’s hand rested on the back of her head, gently patting, "You know, she had surgery on her leg a few months ago and needs to be particularly careful now. I was only worried about her leg at the time, and I didn’t notice you, sorry."
"I understand," Cheng Zhiwei smiled softly, "I heard she was in a wheelchair for three years, and it was not easy for her to stand up again; naturally, she needs to be particularly careful."
Her tone was too calm, unsettling.
Zhou Lin held her tightly in his embrace, "He Lanzhi is there to take care of her."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t say anything more, gently broke free from Zhou Lin’s embrace, and went to sit down on the sofa by herself, while Zhou Lin knelt in front of her, affectionately pinching her cheek, "I’ll go get you something to eat."
"Okay," Cheng Zhiwei obediently agreed.
Zhou Lin touched her hair and left.
Cheng Zhiwei closed her eyes, the sensation of her body hanging in mid-air still causing her heart to shudder. Suddenly, she stood up and chased after him.
No matter what, she felt it necessary to clarify things with Zhou Lin, to ask about his real thoughts, after all, at that time, Seo Zhenzhen had just had leg surgery, and Zhou Lin felt guilty, so his concern was normal.
She only chased him to the corner when Zhou Lin’s voice came through, "How is her leg?"
Cheng Zhiwei paused, stealthily glanced around the corner, and saw Zhou Lin standing by the window, expressionless, on the phone, "I’ll have someone come to pick her up and take her to the hospital, to have it thoroughly checked."
"Contact me if there’s anything."
Cheng Zhiwei, looking at his tense side face, felt a chilling sensation in her heart. His concern for Seo Zhenzhen could have been open and aboveboard, so why sneak around to make a phone call under the guise of getting her food?
He said he trusted her with his mouth, but did his heart actually suspect that she was the one who pushed?
Cheng Zhiwei leaned against the wall, tears still falling from the corner of her eyes.
Zhou Lin, why bother like this.
She returned to the room, stood there dazed for a while, then started to pack her suitcase. But as she packed, she realized belatedly that if she wanted to go home, she could only wait until the ship docked, and the cruise ship wouldn’t return to Yucheng until tomorrow.
She hastily washed her face, her emotions cooled somewhat, and she packed everything into the suitcase. She had a feeling they would go back today.
Half an hour later, Zhou Lin came back with a plate, only to see Cheng Zhiwei sitting on the sofa, lost in thought, not even noticing his return.
He placed the plate in front of Cheng Zhiwei, abruptly lifted her chin, and kissed her deeply, his voice muffled against her lips, "What are you thinking about?"
Cheng Zhiwei came back to herself, looking down at the small cakes on the plate, she started eating with a fork.
After only one bite, Zhou Lin’s faint voice rose, "Eat a little to fill your stomach, we’re leaving in an hour."
Cheng Zhiwei’s hand froze, and the delicious cake became impossible to swallow.
"Not to your taste? Then let’s not eat it for now." Zhou Lin pulled out a tissue and wiped the corner of her mouth, "I’ll ask Aunt Wang to prepare some food, and I’ll go tidy up."
Upon reaching the bedroom door, his pupils briefly widened in shock: two suitcases were neatly placed by the door, and a glance into the bedroom revealed there wasn’t much left to pack.
Zhou Lin turned around to look at Cheng Zhiwei, who had already put down her fork, her tone indifferent, "I thought you would be going back, so I packed everything in advance, you can leave now."
The atmosphere became somewhat stagnant.
Zhou Lin’s gaze deeply searched Cheng Zhiwei’s face, but he couldn’t detect even the slightest hint of emotional fluctuation.
His voice hoarse, he said "alright," had someone wheel out the suitcases, and then went to take her hand, only to grasp at air.
Cheng Zhiwei had already tucked her hands into the pockets of her down jacket and quietly walked out.
On the way back, not a word was spoken.
Back in Sparkling Sky City, Cheng Zhiwei headed straight upstairs to take a bath, and then came down to eat.
It was nearly midnight, so Wang Mei prepared a bowl of small wonton soup for each of them.
Only after the savory soup warmed her stomach did Cheng Zhiwei feel the chill in her body subside somewhat, and it seemed she came back to life.
With a smile, Wang Mei asked Cheng Zhiwei if she enjoyed her trip, and Cheng Zhiwei paused before responding with a half-hearted "it was alright," making it clear that she wasn’t too enthusiastic.
Thinking Cheng Zhiwei was just tired, Wang Mei didn’t press further.
Footsteps sounded from behind, and Cheng Zhiwei knew it was Zhou Lin approaching.
Her gaze lowered, suddenly losing her appetite, she decisively put down her spoon with a distant expression, "Remember to take Aunt Wang back with you when you go out."
"Young Madam?" Wang Mei asked, confused.
Cheng Zhiwei ran her fingers through her hair, smiled and said, "I’d like to sleep in a bit more tomorrow, you don’t need to come over early to make breakfast, it’ll be fine if you come by noon."
"I can drive myself." Wang Mei said.
Her grandson had been sick recently, and she’d been busy and typically went back to her own home after.
"It’s not safe to drive late at night, Zhou Lin will be heading to the hospital later, it’s on the way."
Zhou Lin’s face had already darkened, but Cheng Zhiwei acted as if she hadn’t noticed and turned around to go upstairs.
"Is the young master going to the hospital because he’s feeling unwell?" Wang Mei asked, concerned.
Zhou Lin put down his spoon without any expression and told Wang Mei, "I’ll have the driver take you home, come back tomorrow at noon."
"Alright."
Half of Cheng Zhiwei’s face was buried in the pillow as she lay quietly, but in truth, she was not asleep at all. Therefore, when Zhou Lin got into bed and scooped her into his arms, she was aware of it.
Still, not knowing what to say, she simply feigned sleep.
She should have been questioning him, but Cheng Zhiwei just felt too exhausted to muster any interest in questioning him.
After all, he had already lied. Even if she questioned him, the answers she received might not be true, and even if they were true, she couldn’t bring herself to trust them.
So she simply chose not to ask.
But the man behind her didn’t see it that way. He lowered his head to kiss Cheng Zhiwei’s cheek and whispered tenderly in her ear with a deep and gentle voice, "Are you angry?"
His breath enveloped her in an airtight cocoon, suffocating.
