Chapter 227: Chapter 227: It’s Not Her
Zhou Lin breathed steadily while Cheng Zhiwei had some trouble falling asleep, having someone next to her gave her a special feeling.
She couldn’t help but turn to her side, staring absentmindedly at Zhou Lin’s sleeping face, and eventually couldn’t resist caressing his forehead.
She wondered how many things burdened his heart, and that even in sleep, his brows were furrowed.
As she thought about it, her finger was suddenly caught, Zhou Lin turned and pulled her under him, his smile gentle but teasing.
Cheng Zhiwei felt her cheeks heat up, and immediately knew he had been pretending to sleep, which made her both embarrassed and angry, trying to pull her hand back, "You did it on purpose?"
Zhou Lin brought her fingers to his lips for a gentle kiss, seeing her compliantly lying in his arms, her cheeks shyly blushing, he suddenly felt a sense of serene bliss, feeling she rightfully belonged by his side.
When he realized his thoughts, he suddenly paused, but looking into her bright eyes and seeing his own reflection in them, his heart imperceptibly trembled.
He reached out to cover those clear eyes, bending down to kiss her lips gently, repeatedly calling her name, "Zhiwei, Zhiwei..."
Their affection was deep and entwining.
The couple joked around for a while but since the time for the ball was drawing near, it ended with Zhou Lin taking a bath.
Dressed in her gown, staring at the fresh kiss mark on her neck, Cheng Zhiwei was displeased, she lifted her skirt and tilted her neck, demanding the culprit find a solution.
Zhou Lin then put the down jacket he had brought over her gown, "This will do."
Cheng Zhiwei felt helpless, "Who wears a down jacket over a ball gown? Others will laugh at me."
Going out like this, she feared she might indeed be laughed at to death.
Zhou Lin held her hand preventing her from taking it off, "No one will dare to laugh at you, be good, if you get bored later, you can still go up on the deck for some air."
Cheng Zhiwei thought about it and agreed, had it not been for the strong winds yesterday, she wouldn’t have returned to her room so early.
After walking around with Zhou Lin, Cheng Zhiwei indeed felt bored, and with people occasionally coming up for conversation, which she couldn’t be bothered to entertain, she decided to escape to the deck for some peace.
The winter wind was cold, and the sea breeze was even harsher, even though her ball gown was covered with a thick down jacket, she still felt uncomfortable with the wind on her face, and after about half an hour, she wanted to leave.
Unbeknownst to her, Seo Zhenzhen had appeared behind her.
Cheng Zhiwei lowered her gaze, gracefully passing beside her.
"Cheng Zhiwei." Seo Zhenzhen’s eyes and eyebrows seemed faint under the sea breeze and dim lights, her tone casual yet boastful, "I haven’t properly thanked you for giving that spot to me again."
Cheng Zhiwei pursed her lips, logically she should feel guilty seeing Seo Zhenzhen for what had happened before, but for some reason, she just couldn’t muster such thoughts, and simply chose to ignore her, continuing to walk.
Seo Zhenzhen’s voice then grew louder, carried clearly to Cheng Zhiwei’s ears by the sea wind, with a tinge of coyness, "Ah Lin said he will use all his resources to make me a top star."
"You deliberately took my spot, now you’re flaunting it in front of me," Cheng Zhiwei’s tone remained calm and cold, "Such childishness is completely unnecessary."
Her indifferent tone made Seo Zhenzhen feel the frustration of punching cotton.
Seo Zhenzhen always thought Cheng Zhiwei was the type who had never suffered, pampered by her family, it was just her good fortune, otherwise, she and Cheng Zhiwei were no different, she’d never have the chance to be with a man like Zhou Lin.
"Zhiwei, don’t be angry, in the future if there are spots I don’t want, I’ll recommend you," Seo Zhenzhen sipped her red wine, her smile deep and patronizing, "Or maybe, I could ask Ah Lin to share some resources with you?"
"No need, keep them for yourself."
Seo Zhenzhen was about to say more, but her gaze caught sight of a man approaching, she quickly switched to a pitiful expression: "Zhiwei, I know you can’t forgive what I did before, but I must say sorry."
She said, and yanked hard at Cheng Zhiwei’s wrist.
Cheng Zhiwei did not want to be touched, so she jerked her hand away, causing Seo Zhenzhen to stumble and fall to the ground. Wearing thin high heels, she immediately screamed in pain, "My foot hurts so much."
"Zhenzhen," a worried voice cried out.
Before Cheng Zhiwei could react, Zhou Lin was already in front of her.
She was about to call out to him when her body was violently bumped. She stepped backward, her back hitting the railing hard, and her body started to flip over.
Fortunately, she quickly grabbed the railing, stopping her body from falling backward.
Although she did not fall, the fear of nearly doing so turned Cheng Zhiwei’s face pale, and her heart felt like it was about to burst from her chest.
She stood stunned as Zhou Lin helped Seo Zhenzhen up.
Their eyes met, and Zhou Lin’s expression stiffened.
Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip, her fingers clutching the cold railing, tightly squeezed.
Zhou Lin... did not see her, but he saw Seo Zhenzhen.
In a matter of seconds, Zhou Lin had released Seo Zhenzhen and walked over, whispering softly, "Zhiwei."
Before he could finish speaking, He Lanzhi hurried over and caught the staggering Seo Zhenzhen, asking with concern, "What happened?"
Seo Zhenzhen glanced at Cheng Zhiwei, lips pursed and looking submissive, "I’m okay, I just fell accidentally and twisted my ankle."
But that one look was as if she was pinning the blame on Cheng Zhiwei. He Lanzhi became furious, almost pointing her finger directly at Cheng Zhiwei’s nose, "Seo Zhenzhen tripped because of you, didn’t she?"
Cheng Zhiwei frowned, "It wasn’t my fault."
With He Lanzhi supporting Seo Zhenzhen, looking domineering, she sneered, "If it wasn’t you, she tripped on her own? Cheng Zhiwei, did you know that she was supposed to perform in front of everyone tonight? Did you intentionally cause her injury so she couldn’t perform, ruining all our plans?"
"He Lanzhi, shut up," Zhou Lin said sternly, gripping Cheng Zhiwei’s hand tightly in his palm, his arm wrapped around her shoulders.
"Zhou Lin, it must have been this vile woman who pushed Zhenzhen," He Lanzhi claimed angrily.
"I told you it wasn’t me," Cheng Zhiwei said coldly.
"Do you wish she would never be able to stand again?"
Zhou Lin tightened his arm, his expression stern as he cut He Lanzhi off, "It wasn’t her."
He was defending her, but Cheng Zhiwei felt incredibly sad, and a sense of grievance slowly welled up from the depths of her heart.
"Zhou Lin, you’re still defending her? Look at Zhenzhen, she can’t even stand," He Lanzhi bellowed furiously. "Cheng Zhiwei, you are despicable."
Zhou Lin looked coldly at Seo Zhenzhen, his dark gaze full of authority, "Did Zhiwei push you?"
Seo Zhenzhen leaned on He Lanzhi, tilting her head and shifting her gaze away, "I fell on my own."
Her voice was low, seemingly aggrieved and very reluctant.
He Lanzhi gave Cheng Zhiwei a ferocious look, as if she could devour her, "Cheng Zhiwei, now that Zhou Lin is backing you up, you bully Zhenzhen without any fear, aren’t you afraid of retribution?"
