Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Like the most loving couple in the world
Lin Yu was still worried that the two of them might fight when they went out together, but when they returned, she found them holding hands with a faint blush on Cheng Zhiwei’s cheeks, and she sighed deeply with relief.
"You two..."
"We’re going back first."
Zhou Lin took the car keys, his other hand holding Cheng Zhiwei and never letting go.
Lin Yu paused, "I thought you were staying here?"
Zhou Lin explained briefly, "Zhiwei wants to go back."
Lin Yu was more than happy about their good relationship as a couple. Therefore, she didn’t say much and just saw them out personally, urging Zhou Lin to take good care of Cheng Zhiwei.
On the way back, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help asking Zhou Lin, "Did you and Seo Zhenzhen not end up together because of me?"
Zhou Lin glanced at her and said lightly, "No, we had already broken up."
On the day of the reunion, he had actually planned to break up with Seo Zhenzhen the next day because they were from two different worlds. After being with Seo Zhenzhen, he clearly knew that there was a significant gap between them, and they were not meant to be together.
However, he didn’t expect that he would first encounter a mishap at the hotel and then Seo Zhenzhen would have a car accident.
Cheng Zhiwei then said no more.
The next day when she woke up, Zhou Lin’s figure was still absent from the bed. Cheng Zhiwei stared blankly at the ceiling for a long time and then reached for her phone.
She hesitated before she started searching for news about Bai Zhuzhu’s car accident. However, the information available was limited, presumably because the Zhou Group’s PR had managed everything exceptionally well.
She was brooding and despondent all day, just as her mental health was improving, it started to decline again. Zhou Lin wanted her to attend some social events, hoping that she could make some friends and pass the time.
Cheng Zhiwei knew he meant well, but she just didn’t have the energy to engage in social interactions, so she kept refusing.
It wasn’t until the twenty-fourth of the twelfth lunar month, a day when the entire Yucheng Chamber of Commerce invited everyone in the circle for a lively gathering on a cruise ship, that Zhou Lin almost forcibly took Cheng Zhiwei there.
Cheng Zhiwei felt a bit lazy and, while Zhou Lin was dealing with people, she took her glass of wine and went to the deck to get some fresh air.
Zhou Lin quickly found her and grabbed her somewhat cold hands, forcefully pulling her into his arms and whispered in her ear, "Aren’t you cold?"
Cheng Zhiwei helplessly said, "How did you come out here?"
Zhou Lin rubbed her hair, "I can’t be at ease with you alone outside. The wind is too strong, and it’s cold. I’ll take you to the room."
"Okay." Cheng Zhiwei initially planned to go back anyway since the wind was indeed a bit chilly.
After escorting Cheng Zhiwei to the room, Zhou Lin was called back out by someone.
Cheng Zhiwei changed her clothes and lay under the covers. In the unfamiliar place, she couldn’t feel sleepy at all. As she was drowsily lying there, her phone suddenly rang. Zhou Lin’s restrained voice came through, "Zhiwei, open the door."
Cheng Zhiwei quickly went to open the door.
No sooner had the door been slightly opened than she was pressed against it by a solid chest, and her lips and tongue were no longer hers to control.
Amid her rapid breaths, she faintly heard the frantic voice of a woman outside.
"Go search, you must find him for me. He took the drug; no other woman should benefit from this."
A different voice suggested, "Could it be that he has already returned to his room?"
"Which one is his room? Get someone to bring the key over here."
"But I heard he brought his wife here, and once they returned to their room..."
"He must be sick, who brings their wife to a place like this?"
At the party, those rich businessmen either brought mistresses they kept on the side or just rolled into bed with someone they just met; no one brought their homely wife.
Cheng Zhiwei then had a pretty good idea of what was happening, she tilted her head back, her eyes misty, struggling to hold back Zhou Lin’s hand that had already reached inside her clothes, "Zhou Lin, wait."
Zhou Lin was silent for a few seconds, then bit down harder, his hoarse voice unclear, "Zhiwei, I’m sorry."
He couldn’t wait.
The door clicked shut.
Cheng Zhiwei was pressed into the soft comforter, his thin lips kissing down from her chin and returning to her lips repeatedly, alternating between rough at the beginning and gentle later. He was clearly struggling to keep his composure, sweating profusely, yet his actions became more gentle.
Cheng Zhiwei no longer had the strength even to struggle.
When she opened her eyes again, Cheng Zhiwei only felt a white light before her eyes, and as she remembered the scenes from the night before, her cheeks started burning hot, buried into the pillow.
Just as she sat up to put on her hearing aid, a woman’s crying voice came faintly from outside the door: "It was just a moment of confusion, please, President Zhou, spare me this time."
Followed by a strange man’s voice, "President Zhou, my sister has admired you for a long time, she doesn’t want any status, just to spend a wonderful night with you, please, show some leniency this time."
Zhou Lin’s scornful laugh was heard, "Fine, I’ll let her off, but I’ll dismantle your family’s company, how’s that?"
The man suddenly changed his tone, "President Zhou, President Zhou, please let me explain..."
Cheng Zhiwei sighed, took off her hearing aid, and crawled back into the comforter, drifting back to sleep within minutes,
until her breathing became suddenly difficult, and upon opening her eyes, she was met with a smiling handsome face.
There was a gentle nibble on her lips, and strong arms wrapped around her waist, pressing her firmly in his embrace.
Her breathing grew heavier and heavier.
Cheng Zhiwei weakly pushed him away with a hoarse voice, softly calling his name, "Zhou Lin."
"Mm," Zhou Lin responded in a deep, low voice, clasping her hands, his warm breath fell all around her, his eyebrows arching, "Did I tire you out?"
Cheng Zhiwei finally managed to grab his fingers when he momentarily let go, her watery eyes looking pleadingly at him, pitifully saying, "I’m hungry."
Zhou Lin hesitated a few seconds between continuing and temporarily letting her go, and chose the latter, but not before having an appetizer first.
Cheng Zhiwei drank a few sips of the porridge the waiter brought, then listlessly dropped the spoon, her taste spoiled by Wang Mei’s cooking; the bland taste was too boring for her palate.
Zhou Lin called back, saw the still half-full bowl of porridge on the table, and coaxed her into eating a few more spoonfuls, waited for the waiter to change the sheets, and then let her go rest.
"Sleep more during the day, there is a dance tonight," Zhou Lin instructed, waiting until she had peacefully fallen asleep before he left with his phone.
Cheng Zhiwei pursed her lips slightly, the shadows at the bottom of her heart somewhat dissipating.
If their marital relationship could always be this good, she would be willing to stay by his side.
But her thoughts circled back, to Seo Zhenzhen, to the scent of perfume on Zhou Lin from the other day, and to the ease with which Zhenzhen obtained what she herself desperately sought, leaving her feeling uncomfortable.
As she thought of these various things, she fell asleep again.
When she woke up, she found Zhou Lin sleeping quietly beside her, her back tightly pressed against his broad chest, like the most loving couple in the world.
