Chapter 20: Chapter 20 I Don’t Know Which Eye Was Blind Then

Cheng Zhiwei looked up and saw a handsome face; the man was notably slender with a bright smile, and his tone lifted slightly in surprise, "Cheng Zhiwei?"

Cheng Zhiwei stood up, exclaiming with delight, "Senior He Ye?"

He Ye’s eyes crinkled with his beaming smile, as if lit by brilliant stars, "Long time no see, Cheng Zhiwei, do you mind if I join you?"

"Of course, please sit down," Cheng Zhiwei quickly said.

Cheng Zhiwei had graduated from the Department of Music, while He Ye was a senior from two cohorts above, already well-known as a lyricist and composer in the industry at a young age.

When Cheng Zhiwei was in her junior year, due to a significant competition, the Department of Music specially invited He Ye to compose the song, and Cheng Zhiwei was the lead vocalist. That was how the two met.

When Cheng Zhiwei graduated, He Ye even invited her to join his studio, but she hastily married Zhou Lin thinking they could develop feelings for each other and thus turned down He Ye’s offer.

Unexpectedly, they would meet here.

He Ye wore a radiant smile, even jesting, "I didn’t expect you to choose to marry so early. It’s a shame for your beautiful voice."

Cheng Zhiwei smiled awkwardly, still remembering when she rejected He Ye, his regretful sigh, "Cheng Zhiwei, you’re wasting your talent."

Cheng Zhiwei turned her head to look out the window, unsure how to say her love-struck mind had cleared, and she was ready to start singing again.

He Ye considerately didn’t press the issue but instead asked, "Do you plan to stay here for a few days?"

Cheng Zhiwei thought for a moment and said, "If things go well, I might need to stay around here for a while."

After all, if she got that opportunity, she would have to start recording.

He Ye nodded, "That’s great, I’ll be in the area for a while too. Your contact hasn’t changed, has it?"

"No." Cheng Zhiwei took the initiative to find He Ye in her contacts and sent a smiling emoji.

He Ye was in high spirits, lifting his phone with a smile, "I’ll treat you to a meal once I’m less busy."

Cheng Zhiwei accepted and they chatted about their time at the school, feeling no distance between them; the smile on her face became increasingly radiant and relaxed.

She didn’t notice the man and woman who had just come in.

Bai Zhuzhu was clinging to Zhou Lin’s arm, cooing, "I’ve heard that the seats by the window here offer a view of the ocean. The scenery is so nice, let’s have breakfast here."

Zhou Lin hummed in agreement, and they made their way towards the window.

There were so many seats by the window, and Zhou Lin almost instantly saw Cheng Zhiwei. She was beaming, a few strands of her hair had fallen, and she casually tucked them behind her ear, the delicate gold bracelet on her fair wrist added to her elegant composure.

She seemed very different from the Cheng Zhiwei of Yucheng.

Then, turning to look at the man sitting opposite her, Zhou Lin’s expression darkened. So, this was Cheng Zhiwei’s idea of clearing her head?

Ha, she was probably seeking a new love.

He stood still, and Bai Zhuzhu naturally followed his gaze to Cheng Zhiwei and then to the man sitting opposite her. A flash of jealousy was quickly replaced by delight; Cheng Zhiwei was here having a cheerful breakfast with another man behind Zhou Lin’s back, and Zhou Lin had caught them red-handed.

Fate.

Feigning curiosity and naivety, she asked, "Brother Lin, isn’t that Sister Zhiwei? What is she doing here, and who is the man sitting across from her? They seem to be very close."

Zhou Lin walked over, his voice mocking and detached, "A new love?"

She used that word without even asking about the other person’s identity.

Cheng Zhiwei was stunned for a moment before looking up to meet Zhou Lin’s dark and icy gaze, her brows furrowed with annoyance. To encounter Zhou Lin in Shen City was too much of a mood-killer.

Bai Zhuzhu intentionally held Zhou Lin’s hand a bit tighter, a smile playing on her lips, "Sister Zhiwei, I didn’t expect to meet you here; what a coincidence." She paused, deliberately adding, "You couldn’t possibly be following Brother Lin here, could you?"

Zhou Lin’s expression changed, no wonder Cheng Zhiwei had left so easily, apparently to engineer this chance meeting, huh.

Cheng Zhiwei had already shifted her gaze away, as calm as if she were not Zhou Lin’s current wife but a stranger. She smiled faintly, "Miss Bai misunderstands, I’ve been living here for a week. As for following, if Young President Zhou is appearing here, is it perhaps he who’s following me?"

Who doesn’t know how to say disgusting things?

Bai Zhuzhu glared fiercely at Cheng Zhiwei, standing so close to Zhou Lin as if to subtly assert her dominance, "Sister Zhiwei, you’re the one who’s mistaken. Brother Lin brought me here because of the beautiful scenery."

Cheng Zhiwei’s smile tinged with a mix of sarcasm and pride, "That’s true, Miss Bai comes from a good background; this must be your first time visiting such a place. You two please enjoy yourselves, I won’t disturb you."

She stood up to leave.

But a tall man blocked her in one step.

Dominant and coldly sharp.

"Cheng Zhiwei, you keep saying you want to leave, is it for this man?" Zhou Lin scanned He Ye with a contemptuous look, his words filled with a jealousy he himself was not aware of.

He Ye stared at Zhou Lin for a few seconds, his breeding allowing him to maintain his grace, he asked warmly, "May I ask who this is?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s lips curled in self-mockery, "My... husband."

God knows how ironic and awkward she felt saying that.

Her own husband appeared in front of her with his mistress, behaving intimately and without any attempt to hide it.

As his wife, to be in such a situation was utterly embarrassing.

He Ye feigned surprise, "Your husband?"

He turned his gaze towards Bai Zhuzhu, asking confusedly, "Then who might this be?"

Even though He Ye’s gaze and demeanor were as gentle as ever, Bai Zhuzhu still perceived the disdain and scorn hidden within.

Bai Zhuzhu felt her cheeks burn with both embarrassment and rage in an instant—naturally, she blamed all of it on Cheng Zhiwei, since she was the eyesore.

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes were cold and indifferent, offering no further explanation, "It’s exactly as you see."

He Ye’s response carried a profound tone, "Is this the man you gave up your dreams for and chose to love? Cheng Zhiwei, your taste is a little questionable."

Cheng Zhiwei’s already uncomfortable emotions were scattered by this remark, and she nodded agreeably, "I don’t know which eye I was blind in at the time."

An overtly sarcastic taunt.

A layer of coldness passed through Zhou Lin’s eyes, his complexion growing much uglier.

Bai Zhuzhu bit her lip in aggrieved defense of Zhou Lin, "Sister Zhiwei, how can you speak of Brother Lin that way? The moment he saw you here, he immediately came over. Can’t Brother Lin even ask what’s going on when you’re having a meal with another man?"

Cheng Zhiwei glanced at Bai Zhuzhu dismissively, "What’s there to ask? When I dine with another man, at least I behave appropriately. Unlike some people, who can’t wait to cling to a man. And yet some have no idea what discretion means, the shamelessness is appalling."

Her sharp words insulted both Zhou Lin and Bai Zhuzhu, sparing no feelings.
