Chapter 19: Chapter 19 Even if you just try to trust Young Madam once
Cheng Zhiwei glanced over indifferently, then returned to the car with Lin Yu. Lin Yu sighed, "Why did you stop me? I was all prepared. Even if Ah Lin was here, I must have sent her away."
Cheng Zhiwei tilted her head and rested it on Lin Yu’s shoulder, "Thank you."
For caring so much about her affairs.
Lin Yu, who had been about to reproach her, couldn’t bring himself to speak, "Zhiwei, it’s been tough for you."
"I’m quite alright." Cheng Zhiwei’s voice was clear and slow, methodical, "The injuries on my body were caused by the car accident at North-South Bridge last time, Zhou Lin didn’t abuse me."
She chose to clarify things, to put Lin Yu’s mind at ease.
Lin Yu was surprised, "He didn’t hit you?"
She didn’t want Zhou Lin to be labeled as an abuser either, but the injuries on Cheng Zhiwei’s body looked so much like they were caused by beating.
Now that Cheng Zhiwei said so, she was relieved.
Cheng Zhiwei sighed. It truly was a misunderstanding. She reasoned that Lin Yu must have moved into Sparkling Sky City also because of the misconception that Zhou Lin was abusive.
"That day, there was a torrential downpour, leading to the car accident," mentioned Cheng Zhiwei in passing.
Amidst her joy, Lin Yu recalled the horrific accident scene she had seen in the news, and a wave of fright surged through her heart. She gripped Cheng Zhiwei’s hand tightly again, "You child, having gone through such a huge ordeal, why didn’t you say a word? Are you still feeling unwell anywhere? Let’s go to the hospital for a thorough examination tomorrow."
Cheng Zhiwei hurriedly replied, "I’m all healed, don’t worry. You need to take more care of yourself too. As for the issues between Zhou Lin and me, please don’t worry about it. I’m sticking to the same words, let nature take its course."
Seeing Cheng Zhiwei’s serene expression as if she truly didn’t care and had let go, Lin Yu felt uneasy but still respected her decision, "Zhiwei, no matter what happens, I’m always behind you. If Ah Lin dares to bully you, you must tell me."
"Okay."
Cheng Zhiwei dropped Lin Yu off at home and made sure she had truly let go and wouldn’t go after Bai Zhuzhu again. Only then did she return.
The first thing she did upon returning home was to pack her belongings; she had already booked a flight to Shen City to chase her dreams.
She had intended to inform Zhou Lin, but then she thought, apart from hatred and resentment, there was nothing else between them. Besides, at that moment, he must have been pacifying Bai Zhuzhu. So, she let it be.
Early the next morning, Cheng Zhiwei carried her suitcase downstairs, informed Wang Mei, and had the chauffeur take her to the airport.
Regarding the audition, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t mention it and simply said she wanted to take a trip.
Worried that Cheng Zhiwei might be having a hard time, Wang Mei immediately called Lin Yu to inform her.
After confirming that her mood was stable, Lin Yu called Cheng Zhiwei, then transferred her some money, sending a message with a chuckle for her to enjoy herself while away. She then headed to Sparkling Sky City, her face stern, and called Zhou Lin back over.
Zhou Lin, having just troubled Lin Yu because of Bai Zhuzhu, hurried back despite being very busy.
As he entered the living room and saw Zhang Yuanheng and Wang Mei present but no sign of Lin Yu, he asked in a flat voice, "Where is Madam?"
Zhang Yuanheng stood up, awkwardly saying, "Young President Zhou, there’s something I need to clear up with you."
Zhou Lin looked at him expressionlessly.
Zhang Yuanheng nervously rubbed his hands together, "It’s about the domestic abuse accusation. When Madam asked me about it at that time, I didn’t know it was because of the car accident, so I assumed it was domestic violence."
Wang Mei added, "When I went home and saw the broken porcelain and bandages, I naturally thought Young Madam had been beaten, so I told Madam about it. Young Master, if there’s anyone to blame, it should be us; Young Madam has never told Madam that you abused her."
Zhou Lin understood, Cheng Zhiwei had cleared up the abuse issue.
Then, one by one, these people came forward to prove her innocence.
With a disdainful curl of his lip, Zhou Lin didn’t take it to heart at all; he was well aware that as long as Lin Yu spoke up, everyone would vouch for Cheng Zhiwei.
His face remained expressionless, obviously scornful. Wang Mei and Zhang Yuanheng glanced at each other, both realizing he didn’t believe it at all.
Wang Mei thought for a moment, then added, "Young Master, the Young Madam truly has a good temperament, she never speaks those nonsensical words. It wouldn’t hurt to try and trust the Young Madam just once."
Zhou Lin snorted with laughter, "Cheng Zhiwei, why aren’t you coming out? Having them stand up for you while you hide?"
His impatience was fully on display.
"The Young Madam, she..."
"You don’t need to speak for her. I know what kind of person she is. She doesn’t dare to come and speak the truth; I won’t believe her," Zhou Lin said with extreme indifference.
"But..."
"There are no buts." Zhou Lin turned around, intending to leave. He didn’t want to stay under the same roof as Cheng Zhiwei.
"Zhiwei has already left." Lin Yu walked down slowly from upstairs. She had been to the master bedroom and Zhou Lin’s room, and one glance was enough to know that the relationship between the two had never been good over the past three years.
She felt sorry for Cheng Zhiwei and was helpless against Zhou Lin’s stubbornness.
Finally, she understood why Cheng Zhiwei wanted a divorce.
Such a marriage would be unbearable for any woman.
Zhou Lin looked at Lin Yu, not understanding what she meant by ’left.’
Lin Yu was very disappointed in Zhou Lin, but in the end, he was her own son. She had said what she had to say and scolded him as well. Since Zhou Lin wouldn’t change his stubborn ways, she couldn’t do anything more about it.
After giving Zhou Lin a glance, Lin Yu left with Wang Mei. As she was leaving, she still said, "Take good care of yourself."
Zhou Lin frowned and followed a few steps, "Where did Cheng Zhiwei go?"
He wasn’t concerned about where Cheng Zhiwei had gone, but worried that she might be lurking in the shadows, causing trouble secretly.
Lin Yu completely ignored him and got into the car.
Wang Mei felt a bit of pity and replied, "The Young Madam went out to clear her mind."
Having said that, she followed Lin Yu and left.
Zhou Lin frowned and went upstairs to the master bedroom. In a corner of the dressing table were several boxes of skincare products, which he had Secretary Zhang buy to compensate her.
None had been opened.
Many of her clothes were also missing from the walk-in closet.
Cheng Zhiwei had truly left.
Zhou Lin went downstairs and looked at the empty and quiet house. A slight sense of strangeness passed through his heart. Though he rarely came back during their three years of marriage, every time he did return, he would see Cheng Zhiwei sitting cross-legged on the sofa watching television, with Wang Mei either accompanying her or busy in the kitchen, the place full of the warmth of home life.
Now, the house felt abruptly empty, and a sense of purposelessness emerged in his heart.
After standing for a while, he took the car keys and left. Before, he didn’t want to come back because Cheng Zhiwei lived here, but now that she was gone, he suddenly felt the entire house was too empty and didn’t want to stay either.
One week later.
Shen City Bay Hotel.
Early in the morning, Cheng Zhiwei packed her things and went to the hotel’s dining hall for breakfast.
The sound check was today; she had deliberately put on makeup, intending to have breakfast and then wait for her turn.
She took some millet porridge and an egg, then chose a seat by the window. From there, she could see the distant sea, the view was very nice.
She had not been seated long when a pleasant male voice suddenly came from across, "Excuse me, is this seat taken?"
