Chapter 805: Chapter 774: Dinner Invitation, Election

Tiantian He smiled, took out twenty yuan from her crossbody bag, and handed it to Zhang Mengmeng, saying, "Classmate Zhang Mengmeng, would you mind going to buy some breakfast for everyone? There’s a table here, which is perfect for having breakfast."

"That won’t be necessary," Zhang Mengmeng said, embarrassed because they hadn’t even started working, and Teacher He was already offering to buy them a meal. These students lacked ambition.

Tiantian He smiled and said indifferently, "Alright, even the emperor can’t expect his soldiers to fight on an empty stomach! Go buy the breakfast. You need to eat well to have the strength for work. Is Tiantian He not a good teacher? How could I let my students go hungry?"

Zhang Mengmeng nodded, "I’ll go buy it now."

There was a side street at the school gate, with many vendors selling snacks and breakfasts.

Tiantian He checked her watch and said, "It’s still early. I reckon nobody will come to register at this hour. All of you go have breakfast together; otherwise, you might end up choking without drinks if you just take the food here."

"Okay then," Zhang Mengmeng agreed and left with a few classmates.

About half an hour later, Zhang Mengmeng returned with the classmates.

By now, a new student with luggage was registering at Tiantian He’s table, and it just happened to be a student from her class.

This was a boy, and Zhang Mengmeng was assigned to help the male students. She led him to get bedding and toiletries, then escorted him to the dormitory. Along the way, she introduced the school’s buildings and essential knowledge for new students. After settling the student in his assigned bed, she noted that there would be a class meeting at 6 p.m. in Room 801 of Building No. 3, Department of Chinese.

If it were a girl, she would be escorted by a sophomore girl.

With several people assisting her, Tiantian He was able to work efficiently. Other department teachers beside her were quite envious; had they known, they too would have called on students to help out.

While the students were bustling about, Teacher Tiantian He became the most leisurely person there.

The temperature rose, and both male and female students were scorched red and dripping with sweat.

Feeling compassion for them, Tiantian He went outside the school to a place selling popsicles, bought twenty of them, and handed them out to everyone to cool off.

At noon, Tiantian He directly ordered a table of dishes from an outside restaurant and had them delivered right to the registration spot. The students gathered around the table to eat together. They had expended a lot of energy that day, so Tiantian He made sure there were plenty of meat dishes, which the students enjoyed very much.

By the end of the day, they had registered twenty-eight new students.

After getting everyone settled, Tiantian He took them out for dinner, along with a box of Sanfeng Bridge pastries each.

That day, except for spending some money, Tiantian He hadn’t worked hard — the students had helped with everything.

"Mengmeng, you’ve had a tiring day. Take your classmates back," He Tiantian said after the meal, bidding them farewell.

"Alright, Teacher He, we’ll head back now," Zhang Mengmeng replied. "If you need anything in the future, just come to us. As long as I can help, I definitely won’t refuse."

"Thank you very much," said Tiantian He, visibly moved as she watched the students leave.

Teacher He then gathered her things to attend the class meeting.

The first meeting was for everyone to introduce and get to know each other.

As Tiantian He entered the classroom, the once noisy room fell silent.

"Having seen me during registration today, you must all recognize me. I am your homeroom teacher, Tiantian He. You may call me Teacher He." Tiantian He said, and then wrote her name on the blackboard. "Now, let’s introduce ourselves so we can get to know one another and later, we can study and progress together."

After that, starting with the student at the edge of the classroom, it took half an hour to complete the introductions.

Tiantian He carefully matched the faces to names, committing them to memory.

"Do we have any self-nominations for class leaders?" asked Tiantian He. "However, these positions are temporary, and we will hold official elections after military training. But if the temporary leaders can earnestly serve everyone and assist the class, they will have a significant advantage during the election of permanent leaders."

At that moment, a tall, pretty girl from the northeast raised her hand, saying, "Teacher, my name is Yuan Hua, from the northeast, and I would like to nominate myself as our class president. I ask for your approval."

Tiantian He nodded, "Alright, classmate Yuan Hua will be our temporary class president. There are still a few vacancies on the board; if you feel you can fulfill these roles, please stand up. You are all young and vibrant, like the sun at eight or nine in the morning. Just like student Yuan Hua, have the courage to step up."

Tiantian He wanted to use this as an opportunity to enhance the students’ abilities.

She always remembered Teacher Chen’s words: a university is a place that accepts all rivers, not just for learning knowledge, but also for mastering interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to any situation.

A few more students raised their hands, and Tiantian He agreed to their requests one by one.

"Since these positions are temporary, we can have more than one candidate. If there are still students willing to compete, now is the time to speak up," He Tiantian said. "We can use the half month of military training to assess candidates, and then elect the most suitable class leaders."

Her words encouraged those who had been slower to stand; they saw a glimmer of hope and stood up to declare their interest in the available roles.

"Alright, our future class leaders will be selected from these students," Tiantian He announced. "Others who still want a chance can wait for the elections in our sophomore year. Some might think this unfair, but I gave everyone an equal opportunity just now. Some seized it, while others didn’t even attempt. On the first day of school, I don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm, but through this small incident, I want to remind you that whatever you do in the future, you must have the courage to act. Without it, you will rely solely on luck, and opportunities will be much fewer."

Hearing Teacher He, with her sweet appearance, deliver such stirring words, the students reflected on their strengths and weaknesses, gains and losses.

"Military training starts tomorrow. Yuan Hua, you’ll take heights and weights from the students and report them to me. Then, I’ll take you to collect the uniforms required for training," instructed Tiantian He. "Everyone must be tired from the trip. Go back and rest early."

"Goodbye, Teacher He," the students said in unison.

Even though it was summer and already 7:30 p.m., it had grown dark outside.

Tiantian He went to her office to tidy up, then, carrying her bag, rode her bicycle home.

The start of the semester was indeed a bit chaotic and tiring, but it would get better in a few days.

Back home, her two children were chattering like orioles, enthusiastically sharing their day’s adventures in their unique language.

Seeing the children, all her fatigue disappeared.

The kids were older now and could be left to play in the yard with the big tortoise as long as the gate was shut.

That way, Grandma Wang could take a break to cook.

So, as soon as Tiantian He got home, dinner was ready to be served.

Indeed, Grandma Wang doted on Tiantian He as if she were her own
