Chapter 404: Chapter 375 Extortion, 20000000 US Dollars_1
Fortunately, she had learned how to use such a phone before. He Tiantian picked up the phone and dialed her home number.
It was Uncle Sam who answered.
"Hello!" came Uncle Sam’s consistently mellow voice.
"Hello, Grandpa Sam, this is Janie. Angela and I were kidnapped, but we’ve escaped. We’re at Kira Police Station," He Tiantian said in one breath. "By the way, are grandma, Uncle, and Aunt there?"
"My God, you were kidnapped?" Uncle Sam exclaimed. "I’ll contact the lady and sir immediately. Now, hand the phone to the police officer next to you. I need to have a word with them."
"Okay," He Tiantian said, putting down the phone. "Sir, my family would like to speak with you for a moment."
The police officer came over and took the phone.
He Tiantian couldn’t make out the voice on the other side, but from the officer’s continuous nodding and the relaxed posture of his back, it was evident.
Uncle Sam was putting pressure on the police officer!
After hanging up the phone, the officer turned to them with a pleasant demeanor and said, "Beautiful miss, you must be hungry now, right?"
"I am a bit hungry," He Tiantian nodded. They hadn’t eaten anything since they were kidnapped at noon the day before, and they were starving.
"Our station may be small, but we have delicious sandwiches and milk. May we invite you to try some?" the middle-aged officer asked courteously.
"Thank you very much," He Tiantian expressed her gratitude, her stomach was very hungry.
Mrs. Brown, seeing that the police had taken the case and contacted the sisters’ family, smiled and said, "Sweet girls, since you’re safe now, I should be leaving. Goodbye!"
He Tiantian felt very grateful to this kind-hearted woman. From her clothes and the semi-old furniture behind her, it was clear her life was hard.
"Mrs. Brown, could you please wait until my family arrives before you leave?" He Tiantian asked. "My sister and I are very scared!"
Mrs. Brown hesitated a bit but nodded her head, walking forward to embrace He Tiantian and Qi Zhengmin, saying, "All right, don’t be afraid. I’m not in a rush."
Mrs. Brown was plump, and there was a subtle fragrance about her, probably from laundry detergent. Her embrace was very warm.
Because of Uncle Sam’s phone call, He Tiantian, Qi Zhengmin, and Mrs. Brown enjoyed simple sandwiches and rich milk at the police station.
Even though it was plain food, it tasted supreme when they were hungry.
Meanwhile, since He Tiantian and Qi Zhengmin had gone to the restroom and hadn’t come out for a long time, the bodyguard outside sent a female attendant in to check, only to find that the two girls mentioned by the customers were not there, and there was a faint, irritating smell.
The bodyguard was shocked when he heard this, rushing in to find indeed no one was there.
From the open window, the footprints on it, and the smell in the restroom, they determined that the two young ladies had been kidnapped.
They didn’t dare to conceal the incident and immediately reported it to the master and lady.
When Qi Shuliang and others heard their daughters, He Tiantian and Qi Zhengmin, had been kidnapped, the glass of red wine dropped from their hands. They immediately called the police and ordered the bodyguards to track them down quickly.
"Darling, what should we do now?" Anna fretted. "Angela, Janie..."
"Shuliang, you must save Tiantian and Zhengmin!" Third Grandma Qi was in a panic. If anything happened to He Tiantian here, how could she explain it to her foster son!
"Mother, Anna, don’t panic just yet. Those people kidnapped Angela and Tiantian for money; they wouldn’t bother taking them otherwise," Qi Shuliang comforted. "As long as it’s not for revenge, everything else is negotiable."
Anna thought for a moment and nodded, "You make sense, but if we call the police and the kidnappers see that we’ve alerted them and decide to harm the hostages, what do we do?"
"That’s true!" Qi Shuliang said, "You guys go back to the hotel first, and I’ll go to the police station immediately. I’ll tell them to keep it down, to act covertly if possible."
"I’m not going back, I’m going with you to the police station," Anna said hastily. She couldn’t bear to just wait in the hotel.
Qi Shuliang comforted his wife, "Anna, that person was able to kidnap Tiantian and Zhengmin here and knows our whereabouts. If they are real kidnappers, they’ll call the hotel, not the police station."
"Right, right," Anna realized, "Mom, we’ll go back to the hotel and wait for the call."
These kidnappers had planned it, she and her mother-in-law had no chance of finding them.
If something else happened to grandma, her husband would be even more panicked and at a loss.
Third Grandma Qi also knew that in a foreign land, she couldn’t help with anything. Not causing further trouble was help enough.
"Okay, we’ll go back," Third Grandma Qi was anxious at heart, but she knew their situation and didn’t want to make things harder for her son and daughter-in-law.
Third Grandma Qi clasped her hands and prayed to heaven, to all the gods and goddesses, to protect her two granddaughters.
Once at the hotel, Anna sat by the phone constantly, waiting for the call.
The small town had only three police officers who, along with the bodyguards, were conducting a search. Plenty of evidence suggested that the suspicious dark car had left.
The town’s police were at a loss and could only request assistance from their superiors.
Qi Shuliang was anxious and discussed with the police about how exactly to rescue his daughter.
That evening, Anna received a ransom call from a stranger’s voice, demanding she prepare twenty million US dollars. If the money wasn’t delivered by the next morning, they would harm the hostages.
Anna wasn’t foolish and said, "How can you prove that my children are with you?"
"Heh, since you don’t believe me, I’ll kindly send you some photos," the person on the other end of the phone said smugly.
Anna reported the situation to her husband.
Qi Shuliang was shocked, "Twenty million US dollars? I can’t come up with that much money at once!"
"What do we do now?" Anna said, "Has the police found anything?"
"No effective clues yet," Qi Shuliang said, "They’re still looking."
"Right, the kidnapper said they would send photos of Zhengmin and Tiantian; maybe we can use that to continue the investigation," Anna suggested, determined not to sit idly by!
"Okay, we’ll wait together," Qi Shuliang said gravely. By now, loads of undercover cops were deployed in the vicinity, hoping to find something.
The next morning, a paperboy delivered the newspaper, inside of which was an envelope specifically for Qi Shuliang.
The police questioned the paperboy, who said that a burly man had given him ten US dollars to deliver the newspaper and to make sure the envelope was delivered as well.
The paperboy figured it had been an hour since the man had given him the envelope.
When the police asked about the man’s appearance, the paperboy could only describe his height and his full-face beard.
Quite a few people came and went in the small town. One by one, they were checked.
However, of everyone who came and went, not one had a full beard. There was no match from the paperboy’s identification, even after the whole town was searched.
