Chapter 452: Chapter 359: Ye Xu Alliance

Melody Yoody didn’t let Gina Lopez drive. Gina’s condition was truly terrible at the moment, so Melody took the initiative to drive instead. While driving, Melody occasionally glanced at Gina, who had been staring out the window the entire time, seemingly without the slightest movement.

Melody pulled the car over to the side of the road, sighed softly, and said, "Gina."

Gina seemed completely unaware, still staring blankly out the window.

Melody reached out and gently nudged Gina, who shuddered slightly before turning her head. At first, she seemed a bit bewildered, but then forced a smile and said, "What is it?"

Melody apologized and said, "Gina, I’m really sorry. I meant to help you, but instead, I’ve just added salt to your wound."

Gina took a deep breath, her gaze losing some of its dullness, and said, "Melody, this isn’t your fault. It’s my own doing. My marriage with James was never built on a foundation of love. James was practically forced to marry me. The ones who are truly hurt in this situation are you and him."

"But now you and James are already married, and we..."

"It’s okay, I’ve already thought it through. What I’ve done is unfair to James. He wasn’t ready for marriage, yet I forced him to become my husband. This bitter fruit is my own creation, so I must be the one to eat it."

"Gina, you shouldn’t think that way. If James didn’t care about you, he would’ve left you as soon as he found out I was pregnant. But he didn’t—he chose to stay, which shows he truly cares about you."

"Wait... He knows the baby you’re carrying is his?" Gina suddenly raised her voice in alarm.

"Of course. That bastard made me pregnant and then ran off to marry you. At the time, I wanted to chop him into pieces to vent my anger. But every time I saw him, I couldn’t stay mad. After all, this child came unexpectedly when neither of us was prepared—how could I completely blame him?"

"Then... did he find out you were pregnant after he married me?" Gina asked nervously.

"Yes. After he married you, I didn’t plan on telling him. But he figured it out himself. He knows I wouldn’t be someone who’d get pregnant with someone else’s child."

Gina instinctively clenched her fists, her throat dry and her voice hoarse as she asked, "What did he tell you at the time?"

Melody smiled lightly as she looked at Gina and said, "Looks like you still care about him."

Gina felt a bit awkward under Melody’s gaze but still met her eyes and said, "Like you said, a first love is the hardest to forget. James is my husband, my first love. No matter how many mistakes he’s made, how could I possibly let him go so easily?"

Melody nodded and said, "Seems like you can’t let go either. Earlier, when you said you wanted to move on, I actually planned to try harder to win James back from Emily Berns. But now you’ve turned back, and I feel guilty to even consider it."

Gina twitched the corner of her mouth and said, "I’m sorry. I hadn’t thought things through earlier. But ultimately, the decision lies with James. If he truly chooses you, I’ll have no complaints. After all, you’re already carrying his child. But..."

"But what?" Melody asked, intrigued, as she watched Gina.

"But if James ultimately stays with me, the child you have—we will certainly take responsibility for them, and I will absolutely not treat them as anything less than my own."

"Wow, I really have to admire you for that. No matter what, you’re James’s legal wife right now. If you refuse to divorce him, there’s nothing any of us can do."

"I, Gina Lopez, am not someone without self-respect. If James doesn’t want to be with me and I still cling to him, what’s the point?"

"Just for that, I, Melody Yoody, would want to be friends with you. No matter who ends up with that jerk in the future, I promise I’ll be your friend."

"And because you didn’t use the child as leverage against me, I’d be willing to be your friend as well."

The two women clasped hands, forming an unexpected sense of camaraderie.

Sharing a smile, their hands parted. Melody furrowed her brows and said, "As for our situation, we can talk about it later. The most important thing now is that James Brown, that jerk, has run off to Emily Berns’s place. Our first order of business is to get him back."

By this point, Gina’s mood had lifted somewhat. Crossing her arms, she said, "He’s with Emily Berns; that’s not an issue for us. But now he’s not answering our calls, and we can’t find him. Trying to bring him back seems impossible. We can’t exactly storm into Emily’s house and drag him out."

Melody narrowed her eyes and said, "I have a plan. What if we leak the news about Emily’s location? The media and fans would swarm over, and James wouldn’t be able to stay there even if he wanted to."

Gina considered for a moment and said, "That sounds problematic. What if Emily publicly acknowledges her relationship with James? That would corner him even more."

Melody furrowed her brows and said, "You’re right. We can’t pressure that jerk James into a corner."

Gina added, "Exactly. Forcing him and Emily together isn’t the best approach. Ideally, we can find a way to meet with James and have a proper talk."

"Hmph, just thinking about it makes me furious. I’m carrying his child, and he had the nerve to run off to you without even telling me—that jerk doesn’t take me seriously at all!"

Gina smiled faintly at Melody and said, "This just takes patience. James would never be so heartless. Of course, he’ll come see you eventually. He’s with Emily because they have a child together. There’s no way he wouldn’t visit her. Especially since Emily hasn’t told him where their daughter is, James has to see her. But when James left that night, he explicitly told me he wouldn’t be with Emily. At first, I thought he was lying to me when I saw Emily today, but on second thought, I believe him. If he says he won’t be with Emily, then he won’t. At most, they’ll stay together briefly for the sake of the child—you have no reason to be angry."

Melody nodded and said, "That guy may be a lot of things, but he is a man of his word."

Gina smiled subtly and said, "You’ll see. He’ll come looking for you. It’s just a matter of time."

Melody suddenly sighed and said, "Gina, tell me, what’s so special about that guy? You’re a company president, and Emily is a big celebrity—why are you both fighting over him?"

Gina’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully and said, "Initially, I didn’t think James had anything remarkable about him. I used to look down on him. But the longer I’ve been with him, the more I realize he’s a truly good man. The more time I spend with him, the more I want to be with him. If you ask me what’s great about him, I honestly can’t say. But when I’m with him, I feel at ease."

Melody curled her lips mockingly and said, "Over the years, he’s changed so much that there’s now so much I don’t know about him. In my heart, he’s still the mischievous high school kid he used to be."

"Well, you’re already ahead of the rest of us. James’s purest years were all yours."

Talking and laughing together, the mood between the two was remarkably harmonious. Suddenly, Gina checked her watch and said, "Oh no, it’s getting late! I need to hurry back to the company; I’ve got a meeting today."

"Same here, I’ve got things to deal with this afternoon. Today, Emily Berns has already disrupted everything. Let’s go. We’ll figure out how to handle Emily and drag James back later."

Gina drove Melody back to the countryside and then hurried back to the company. Today marked the mid-level management meeting. Normally, James Brown, the manager of the HR department, would attend. However, the department was currently under the temporary management of the former assistant manager.

After the meeting, Gina returned directly to her office. Shortly afterward, Sarah Utah walked in. First, Sarah discussed some company matters with Gina and then stood at the desk, hesitating and watching Gina with an uncertain expression.

"Sarah, you’ve been a longtime colleague of mine. What’s the matter? You can talk to me about anything," Gina said, looking at Sarah curiously.

Sarah hesitated briefly, then said, "Mr. Lopez, are you really planning to divorce Big Brother Brown?"

Gina suddenly remembered that Sarah had always had feelings for James Brown. If he truly divorced her, Sarah might have a shot, which explained her nervousness. Smiling faintly at Sarah, Gina said, "Sarah, I’m truly sorry. Even though James and I have been fighting lately, I have no intention of divorcing him."

Sarah released a long breath, patted her chest lightly, and said, "That’s such a relief."

Seeing Sarah’s reaction, Gina couldn’t help but chuckle and said, "If I did divorce James, you’d have a good chance of being with him. Why would you be disappointed about that?"

Blushing, Sarah said, "Mr. Lopez, I do like Big Brother Brown. But I want him to be happy above all else. I’ve always felt you’re the best match for him. If you did divorce him, I’d definitely do my best. But since you’re staying together, I’m genuinely happy for him."

Gina felt a pang of guilt. Sarah’s affection for James was undeniable and selfless, always focused on giving without expecting anything in return. This realization made Gina feel even closer to her. "Thank you, Sarah," she said sincerely.

Sarah gave a sweet smile and said, "All this time I’ve gone to chat with Big Brother Brown when I had nothing to do. The fact that you haven’t gotten mad at me is something I’m very grateful for."

"I’m not that petty. By the way, you said earlier you’ve been chatting with James lately. Has he contacted you in the past few days?"

Sarah’s face immediately shifted uneasily, which Gina noticed instantly. Gina leaned on the table, her voice rising with urgency, "You’ve seen James in the past two days?"
