Chapter 451: Chapter 358: I Also Have James’s Child

Melody Yoody was even more furious. As a person entrenched in the political field and bolstered by a powerful background, she had always been a strong, assertive individual. Unlike Gina Lopez, who had to feign sincerity while negotiating in business, Melody’s tolerance was much weaker. Being directly called a homewrecker by Emily Berns was something she couldn’t possibly endure.

"You’re the homewrecker. James’s wife is standing right here." However, Melody managed to keep her anger in check and immediately invoked Gina’s name.

Emily curled her lips and said, "How long has James even been married? My daughter is already three years old. Gina Lopez, you only have a piece of paper with James Brown’s name on it. Actually, you’re the real homewrecker, aren’t you?"

Gina smiled faintly at this point and said, "Emily Berns, you don’t need to provoke me. That won’t achieve anything. Regardless, James and I are legally protected. I acknowledge that you have a child with James, and we can absolutely discuss custody arrangements for the child. But as for marriage, you can dream all you want—it won’t happen. James wouldn’t be with you just because you’ve had his child."

"Oh, really? Didn’t you already kick James out? What, now you want him back again?" Emily scoffed.

"He came to see you?" Gina had been hoping, on her way here, that James hadn’t come to Emily’s place.

"Yes, he’s here with me. He’s been staying at my place for the past couple of days." Emily stretched lazily, exuding charm as she said, "We haven’t been together for years, but that man is truly like a ravenous wolf."

Both Melody Yoody and Gina Lopez knew very well that James Brown was incredibly vigorous in that aspect. He always managed to bring them to the heights of pleasure. Hearing Emily’s words, the two subconsciously assumed James really was there.

"Where’s that bastard? Tell him to get out here!" Melody clenched her teeth, hissing angrily.

Emily’s smile grew even brighter as she said, "What a pity, James has gone out. He’ll only be back tonight. If you want to wait, you can wait for him to return this evening."

As she spoke, Emily glanced at the clothes drying in the yard. Both Gina and Melody instinctively looked over and noticed, aside from the women’s clothes, there was also a pair of men’s underwear and a pair of socks hanging there. Gina immediately recognized the underwear as the brand she often bought for James. Her expression changed drastically, as this was clear proof that James was indeed staying there.

Taking a deep breath, Gina said, "If James is willing to be with you and raise your child together, I don’t have any objections. Please tell him, when he comes back, to meet me and finalize the divorce procedures."

A complex look flashed in Emily’s eyes. Though she had been a bit of a troublemaker in the past, she had matured significantly over the years. Seeing Gina’s pain and sorrow now, after sparring with her for James’s affection, stirred genuine guilt in her heart.

But for James Brown, Emily steeled herself and said, "Thank you for understanding. I know this also hurts you. If you have any demands, James and I will make sure to fulfill them."

Gina forced a smile and said, "He doesn’t owe me anything. If we are compatible, we stay together. If not, we separate."

Feeling a pang of sympathy, Emily finally apologized earnestly to Gina, "I’m truly sorry, but I have James’s child. I have to think of my daughter’s future."

"I understand," Gina nodded and prepared to stand up and leave.

Just then, Melody suddenly clasped Gina’s hand firmly. Fixing her gaze on Gina, she asked, "Are you sure about this? You’re ready to leave James?"

Gina bitterly smiled and said, "What choice do I have? He’s staying with his child and the child’s mother now. That’s a rightful decision."

Melody took a deep breath and said, "Alright, since you’re stepping aside, then I’ll be the one to fight her for him. Emily Berns!" Melody then turned to Emily, touched her own belly, and declared, "Let me tell you something: the child inside me belongs to James as well."

"What?" Gina gasped in shock, staring at Melody in disbelief.

Melody turned to Gina with an apologetic smile and explained, "It was an accident. I didn’t expect to get pregnant with his child. I even considered going to the hospital to terminate it, but the doctor said this would be my only opportunity in life to become a mother. So I had no choice but to keep it. I didn’t tell you before because I didn’t want to disrupt your life. But now that you’ve chosen to step aside, I have to fight for a father for my child too."

Gina’s lips trembled as she tried to speak, but no words came out.

Emily, on the other hand, was staring fixedly at Melody, stunned that another rival for James had suddenly emerged after she had just managed to deal with Gina.

Melody smiled slightly at Emily and said, "Didn’t you say you’ve known James longer than anyone else? Well, let me tell you, James and I were high school classmates. Back then, he and I had already sealed the deal physically. So, would you say our time is longer than yours?"

Emily snorted and said, "So what? James is staying with me now. Doesn’t that prove he wants to be with me?"

Melody felt a surge of frustration but managed a laugh, saying, "Even if he’s staying with you, that doesn’t mean anything. All it proves is that he’s giving you some sort of compensation. We both have James’s children now, so can you really guarantee he’ll end up with you?"

"Of course I can," Emily brushed her hair from her forehead, her charm on full display, and said, "He’s already told me he’ll be with me in the future, raising our child together and making up for everything he owes us."

Melody scoffed, "Sure. But you’re a big star now. If word got out that you had James’s child—or even that you were dating James—your career as an actress would be over."

Emily continued to smile and said, "Being a celebrity was just an idle distraction. Now that I’ve found James, I don’t care about my career anymore. I just want to be with him."

Melody sneered, "Fine, let’s say you can give up your career. But you and James haven’t spent much time together. How could he possibly love you? This kind of responsibility-driven family wouldn’t bring any happiness. I’m different. James and I grew up as childhood sweethearts with a deep bond. You can ask him if he returned to YODC City for me. Hasn’t he avoided marriage all these years because of me? I doubt he’d tell you this, but I’m his first love—something no one can ever replace."

Mentioning this filled Melody with pride. She realized that her connection with James gave her a tremendous advantage in competing for his affection.

Emily scoffed, "Childhood sweethearts? That’s just naive foolishness. First love is nothing more than a memory. How many married couples are actually each other’s first love? You’re just a piece of James’s past. Although James and I haven’t been together long, that allows me to give him a sense of novelty. Besides, I’m a celebrity, which makes me an accomplishment for him—it’s something you simply can’t compare to."

While Melody and Emily argued back and forth with their cutting remarks, Gina sat there dazed and withdrawn. Melody was carrying James’s child. Emily had already given birth to his daughter. And she, his wife, had nothing but a marriage certificate to her name. She was utterly vulnerable, without even the standing to argue her case.

Gina finally stood up, dispirited, and walked out silently. Melody quickly jumped up and glared at Emily, saying, "Emily Berns, you wait! James will definitely come back to me." Then she chased after Gina.
