Chapter 386: Chapter 393 Emily Lopez’s Conditions
John Brown knew there was no need to deny it at this point. What mattered most was making sure Gina didn’t find out. Luckily, his mischievous sister-in-law Sandra had always been on good terms with him. Perhaps with some coaxing, she’d help keep his secret.
When a man gets married, his mindset changes naturally. Before marriage, whoever he spent time with, there was no need for explanations to another woman, nor was there the fear of being found out. But now, things were different—his wife simply had to be kept in the dark.
"Sandra," John Brown flashed her a pleased smile and said, "Your brother-in-law messed up. Can you promise not to tell your sister?"
Sandra grinned playfully and replied, "How could I do that? She’s my actual sister, flesh and blood. And you’re telling me I should help you cover up your cheating on her? That’s like taking sides against her, isn’t it?"
Seeing Sandra’s amused attitude, John Brown felt a bit more at ease. If Sandra were storming around furious, he’d be in real trouble.
"Sandra, you’ve seen how good I’ve always been to you, right? I do everything you ask. Sure, I made a mistake this time, and I admit it, but it’s not because I don’t care about your sister anymore—it’s just some emotional baggage from the past that I haven’t been able to sort out. You’ve got to give me a little time, right?"
"Men who cheat always come up with plenty of reasons to justify themselves," Sandra said with the same mischievous smile.
John Brown coughed awkwardly. "Sandra, can’t we talk this over on the couch?"
"Fine!" Sandra agreed cheerfully.
A moment later, the two of them were seated on the couch. Sandra immediately threw her legs onto John Brown’s lap, leaning back lazily while giving him a playful smile.
John Brown quickly picked up on the cue and began massaging her feet lightly. Just as he was about to speak, Sandra shot him a dissatisfied look, her eyes darting to her own feet. He paused for a moment before realizing what she wanted and hurried to remove her socks.
Sandra finally smiled with satisfaction. "Okay, continue," she said.
John Brown coughed again, his hands still rubbing Sandra’s feet gently. "Sandra, I was meeting Helen Wilson for lunch today—you know her, your dad’s former comrade’s daughter. You’ve met her before."
"Hmm." Sandra squinted her eyes slightly. It was unclear whether that response was acknowledgment or simply enjoyment of the foot massage.
"You know about the case I helped her with before—that time when, to deceive those smugglers, we had to... make some sacrifices," John said hesitantly.
"I know most of the past stuff. Just tell me, why did you meet her today?" Sandra asked directly.
Of course, John couldn’t reveal Helen Wilson’s demands. "Initially, we were discussing some business matters over lunch, but considering I’m now married to your sister, it felt wrong to keep it from her. I told Helen, which upset her deeply. You know how people act irrationally when they’re furious, and so... well, this is where I ended up," he said lamely.
"Hmm, so you’re saying she forced you into this?" Sandra teased.
John nodded repeatedly. "Exactly!"
"Brother-in-law, you’re quite skilled, aren’t you? Helen shouldn’t be able to outmatch you in any sense. If you really didn’t want to, what could she possibly do to you? Besides, if a guy doesn’t want to... that part of the anatomy doesn’t work, right?" Sandra’s face suddenly turned a shade of pink.
John immediately felt his face heat up, his expression turning embarrassed. "It’s—it’s true. I admit, the main issue was your brother-in-law’s weak willpower," he stammered.
"Fine. Since you’re being upfront about your mistake, I’ll give you a chance," Sandra declared.
John was overjoyed. "Sandra, you’re the best! If you ever need anything in the future, your brother-in-law will be there without hesitation!"
"Gentler, you sneaky brother-in-law!" Sandra teased as John accidentally applied too much pressure to her foot, prompting her to grimace.
Realizing his excitement had gotten the better of him, John hurriedly adjusted his massage technique, soothing her tension.
Sandra relaxed, her brow smoothing out as she squinted contentedly again. "So, brother-in-law, you said earlier you’d agree to anything I asked for, right?"
John’s heart skipped a beat. He regretted his careless words—Sandra was clearly about to trap him again. Resigned, he nodded. "Of course. You’re Gina’s sister, which makes you like my own sister. We’re family."
"Don’t butter me up! Family is family, but money is money. My request still stands," Sandra said matter-of-factly.
John could only sigh helplessly. "Alright, alright. Go ahead, Sandra, what is it?"
Sandra’s sparkling eyes darted mischievously, and she grinned. "From now on, you have to massage my feet every day."
"That’s no problem. Haven’t I been doing this daily anyway?" John agreed readily.
"That’s different. I want you to do it in front of my sister too," Sandra said mischievously.
"What?" John’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at her.
Sandra pouted prettily. "That way, when you massage me, it’ll feel like we’re sneaking around. It’s awkward! Come up with a way for my sister to see you doing it openly and yet not interfere. Only then will I agree to keep your secret."
John just felt like this task was absurdly difficult. He gave a bitter smile and said, "Sandra, this is way too demanding."
"You’re my brother-in-law. You have to figure it out. This is my only condition. If you don’t agree, then forget it," Sandra stated firmly.
John was speechless, but an idea suddenly struck him. Smiling wickedly, he said, "Alright, leave it to me."
Sandra sat upright in excitement. "You really have a plan?"
"I do. But, why are you so thrilled?" John teased.
Sandra blinked her big eyes and chuckled. "Because it means you’ll have no choice but to massage my feet every day! Do you know how exhausted dancers’ feet get on a daily basis?" She then flopped back onto the couch, closing her eyes in delight. "This is pure bliss."
John couldn’t help but feel that Sandra’s enthusiasm was a bit over the top. He struggled to decipher her true motivations, in the end choosing to feign ignorance. "Just make sure you cooperate with me when the time comes," he said.
"Sure, just tell me what to do, and I’ll follow your lead," Sandra replied cheerfully.
John then shared his plan, which Sandra listened to with interest, her face lighting up. At the end, she burst into laughter and said, "Brother-in-law, this idea is just like how I tricked you guys into getting married!"
"I’ve learned from the best—you!" John retorted.
"Haha, clearly, I’m still better than you," Sandra bragged.
"By the way, Sandra, why are you home today?" John asked, steering the topic elsewhere.
"There’s some kind of survey at school, and I needed my ID card. I forgot it, so I came home to grab it," Sandra explained.
"Isn’t it about time to head back?"
"Oh, you’re right!" Sandra quickly retracted her feet and leapt up, rushing to put on her shoes.
"You haven’t put your socks on yet," John called out.
"Bring them to me!" Sandra stretched her hand toward the door with urgency.
John grabbed her socks and walked over. Handling his sister-in-law’s socks felt a bit intimate, but compared to massaging her feet every day, it wasn’t a big deal.
Sandra quickly slipped on her socks, and John said, "Alright, don’t rush. I’ll drive you back; there’s still time."
"Oh, I forgot about that!" Sandra slowed down and flashed him a sweet smile.
John finished putting on his shoes, and the two walked out the door. Sandra immediately linked her arm with John’s, acting even closer to him than Gina ever did. John was somewhat used to this by now and didn’t object.
"Brother-in-law, make sure to implement your plan soon!" Sandra reminded him as they waited for the elevator.
"Alright, I wouldn’t dare say no," John replied.
"Hehe, I wasn’t threatening you, just joking! You’re not offended, right?" Sandra teased, shaking his arm coquettishly.
"Haha, of course not. You’re my little sister-in-law, after all. Bullying your brother-in-law is perfectly normal. Besides, I really owe an apology to your sister," John responded warmly.
"Yeah, you should definitely address that. You’re with my sister now, so it’s time to cut ties with those other women. If things drag on and become uncontrollable, my sister will find out eventually. And then you’ll be in big trouble," Sandra cautioned.
"Sandra, doesn’t that sound like you’re siding against your own family?"
"You’re my brother-in-law—you’re like family anyway!"
Arriving at the school gate, John dropped Sandra off just as another car pulled up. It was a Mercedes-Benz, and when it stopped, the window rolled down to reveal Michael Carter’s face. He had recently become the school principal, responsible for all the affairs of the arts academy.
"Good afternoon, Principal Carter!" Sandra greeted warmly.
Michael Carter stepped out of the car and asked Sandra, "Good afternoon, Teacher Lopez. Where did you go?"
"I went home to pick up something," Sandra replied.
"Ah, I see. Well, it’s almost time for class. Shall we head inside?"
"Sure!" Sandra nodded enthusiastically before giving John a quick wave and heading into the school with Michael Carter.
John watched them disappear inside. He had met Michael Carter at an event recently and felt that Carter was a capable man—steady, composed, and not prone to showing his emotions. He was undoubtedly the kind of person who could handle major endeavors.
However, precisely because Carter gave off that vibe, John couldn’t help but feel uneasy. If someone like Carter ever intended to do harm, he’d likely make sure no one saw it coming. Sandra being around him made John nervous.
Still, John didn’t believe Carter would immediately try anything inappropriate with Sandra. After all, Carter wasn’t the kind of person who’d act recklessly. For someone like him, reputation came first. If he wanted to set a trap, he might play the gentleman initially, luring his prey slowly and subtly. At least for the short term, Sandra seemed safe.
That said, John might have been overthinking. Considering Carter’s family owned a film production company, he could easily pursue actresses and celebrities if he wanted to, and he might not have any designs on Sandra at all.
