Chapter 384: Chapter 391: Helen Wilson Pressures Marriage

Just before lunch ended, Helen Wilson called and said she had something to tell John Brown, asking him to go to her house.

John wanted to refuse, but Helen didn’t give him the chance and hung up the phone.

After thinking it over, John decided to go to Helen’s place. Although they had a relationship, it hadn’t reached that level of emotion. If Helen could let go, they could become good friends in the future. He believed a good talk with Helen shouldn’t be a problem.

When he arrived at Helen’s house, it seemed she had just come in as well. Her clothes were half-changed, wearing a simple T-shirt on top and police uniform pants on the bottom.

"Sit down, I’ll change my clothes," Helen said, taking her pants off right in front of John and hanging them on the door rack. Her backside was covered by the T-shirt, but her elastic, sun-kissed thighs were exposed without the slightest reservation.

Too lazy to even put on pants, Helen sat next to John and said, "Now that you’ve got a wife, you’ve totally forgotten about me."

John laughed awkwardly, saying, "With a wife, you have to be a bit more careful, or else she’ll get angry."

"Hmph, aren’t you afraid I’ll get mad?" Helen glared at John.

John chuckled nervously and said, "Can’t we avoid jokes like this?"

"Who’s joking with you? I’m telling you, my parents are urging us to buy a house. I’ve already picked one out; just waiting for you to give your opinion."

"What?" John’s eyes opened wide, "Didn’t you say you’d explain the truth to your parents? Why are we buying a house?"

Helen rarely showed a coy smile and said, "I never said that."

"Then, what does this mean?" John had a bad feeling.

Seeing John’s panic, Helen felt a bit excited inside. This guy was that powerful Mysterious Figure, and she had witnessed his strength firsthand. Now, here he was in front of her, showing such an expression, as if that mighty Mysterious Figure was at her mercy.

"What do you think it means?" Helen slowly leaned towards John.

John quickly leaned back, stammering, "Helen, you... you should calm down. Didn’t you say... we weren’t supposed to actually get involved emotionally?"

"Can’t I change my mind?" Helen continued to inch closer.

"You regret it, but can’t I? I’m already married," John leaned back further.

"So what if you’re married? You can get a divorce. I know you didn’t marry Gina Lopez out of love. Divorce her, and I’ll marry you," Helen leaned in even closer.

"This... Helen..." John found himself cornered on the sofa.

Helen lunged on top of John, her face just centimeters from his, her eyes twinkling, "You wouldn’t be so heartless, would you? You took my first time; how can you shirk responsibility?"

John suddenly laughed, embracing Helen and bursting into laughter.

"What are you laughing at?" Helen was a bit unnerved by John’s laughter.

"I say, Helen, when did you learn to play these games? I never expected it. You’re a cop, always so stern with me, and now you like to play such games."

Seeing John’s face full of smiles, Helen blinked and said, "I’m not playing any games with you. I’m serious."

"Come on, stop kidding. I know you too well. You’ve never taken a liking to me before. How could you want to marry me? Hey, it’s getting late, we both have to get back to work. Can we play some other time?" John said as he tried to stand up, pushing Helen away.

This time, Helen forcefully held John down on the sofa, staring directly into his eyes, and said each word clearly: "I... am... serious!"

John’s smile froze on his face, meeting Helen’s gaze. After a long pause, he forced a bitter smile and said, "What kind of act are you putting on?"

"I didn’t want to get serious with you, but the more I think about it, the more I feel at a loss. I gave you my first time. If I marry someone else, that husband won’t get the original product. How can he be good to me then? So, you have to marry me so I can be at ease."

John wanted to laugh, but his face twitched briefly, his smile uglier than crying, "Helen, let’s calm down, okay? What happened between us can be attributed to some special circumstances. Marriage requires compatible personalities to live together. If we fought every day after getting married, how could life go on?"

"Don’t think I’m naturally bad-tempered. It’s because I had a bad impression of you initially, so my demeanor mirrored that. Go ask around at the precinct; am I known for a fiery temper?"

John knew Helen was telling the truth. This female officer wasn’t usually ill-tempered or fierce, but her initial impression of John set the tone, which persisted.

"But marriage is a big deal. Can you give me some time?"

"Don’t try to wriggle out of this. I want a decision now. Will you divorce Gina Lopez and marry me?"

Meeting Helen’s gaze, John said, "Joanne, something did happen between us, but we must acknowledge it was only under certain conditions and specific times. Saying I like you, I do, but it’s not love."

Helen stared at John and asked, "And you have love with Gina Lopez?"

After thinking it over, John replied, "I have to admit, there is love between us. Though it’s not very intense, it’s the kind of slow-cooked love I appreciate."

"Alright, cut the nonsense. You’ve had your eye on Emma Campbell too, telling me numerous times you like her. Yet you ended up marrying Gina Lopez. Do you think I’m stupid or some naive twelve-year-old girl to be tricked?"

Helen’s relentless verbal assault left John embarrassed, especially at the mention of Emma, which made him lose confidence. He decided not to argue with Helen anymore, "I can’t do that. I’m already married to Gina, and I can’t just divorce her at will. I can’t meet your demand."

"Oh, you’ve got some nerve now?"

"I’m not being defiant; I’m out of options. Wouldn’t it be better to stay friends? Or maybe lovers, wouldn’t that be great too? Why the official couple label—it’s exhausting."

"You bastard!" Helen gritted her teeth and suddenly reached to tear at John’s clothes.

"Hey, hey, what are you doing?" John quickly cried out, trying to stop Helen.

"Didn’t you say we could be lovers? So now let’s play some lovers’ games—isn’t that okay?" John’s resistance only fueled Helen’s excitement, unleashing a powerful energy as she began to tear at his clothes frantically.

"No, no... Okay, fine, I’ll go along with you, just don’t tear my clothes. I have work in the afternoon... mmm..."

Helen was wild today, ignoring all of John’s protests, taking the initiative, over and over again drawing from him.

Under Helen’s fierce attack, where could John truly resist? Soon, he was swept up in her passion, rolling off the sofa onto the floor, then onto the bed, and finally into the bathroom for a frenzied round.

Helen finally stopped. John took a cigarette, inhaled twice, and said, "My Little Rachel, you were quite forceful today."

Helen lay sprawled on John, completely exhausted. She was just too excited today; the thought of doing such things with that powerful Mysterious Figure overwhelmed her emotions. Plus, she was the initiator, feeling more mentally satisfied as if she were stronger than that mysterious figure.

She grabbed John’s cigarette, took a puff, and immediately started coughing.

John patted her back, "What are you doing smoking?"

"If you smoke, why can’t I? Don’t you like it?"

"I don’t mind women smoking, but it depends on the case. If it’s a woman with elegant manners smoking a lady’s cigarette, that’s charming. But Joanne, you’re way too wild to pull that off."

"Alright, since you don’t like it, I won’t smoke anymore." Helen placed the cigarette back into John’s mouth.

"You’re quite obedient," John said, physically satisfied but mentally worried that Helen would relentlessly push for marriage.

"Don’t think you can fool me. I won’t give up. I’ll make sure you marry me," Helen’s words confirmed John’s fears.

"Joanne, it’s really tough for me. I just married Gina. If I divorce her, she’ll become a twice-married woman, and I’d ruin her."

"But you’ve had your way with me. How can I marry now?"

John whispered to himself that it seemed Helen was always the one playing with him. Still, he kept this thought to himself because it seemed Helen was serious, and it made him feel overwhelmed.

If it was just a fling with Helen, he could have been ruthless and kicked her to the curb. But because he had interacted with Helen a lot, he had developed a mysterious liking for this female police officer, making it impossible to say anything heartless.
