Chapter 383: Chapter 390: Director Jackson’s Frustration

After escaping, John Smith grew more and more frustrated the more he thought about it. As a renowned director, being humiliated in YODC City, a B City, was something he found utterly unacceptable.

But he couldn’t retaliate against James Brown openly. The guys he hired to teach James a lesson turned out to be useless—they didn’t even put up a fight before being knocked out by James.

"Director Jackson, what happened to you? How did you get hurt like this?" Olivia Robinson pushed the door open and walked in, immediately exclaiming when she saw John Smith’s swollen, bruised nose, clearly the result of being punched.

John Smith was already fuming with anger, and seeing Olivia only made him madder. Glaring at her, he said, "Look at the useless people you found! They got me beaten up!"

"What? John Johnson is quite well-known in YODC City. How could he let you get beaten up? Could the other side have brought a lot of people?" Olivia hadn’t received a call from Mark Davis yet and was clueless about what had happened.

"A lot of people? No way. It was just one guy, damn it. Just some lousy teacher at an art school—absolutely infuriating."

Olivia still wasn’t entirely sure what had happened, but it was clear that John Smith had suffered and that the people she found were of no help. Fearing that John might get so mad he’d cancel her lead actress role, she hurried to sit beside him, speaking softly, "Director Jackson, maybe John Johnson underestimated the guy. I’ll have him round up more people. If he and his subordinates can’t handle it, his older brother definitely can. His brother has a lot of pros under him. If they step in, they’ll beat that lousy teacher so badly his own grandma won’t recognize him."

Hearing this, John Smith’s spirits lifted. He said, "Real pros? That guy’s tough. Mark Davis brought two people, and that guy took them all down by himself without even breaking a sweat."

"Don’t worry, John Johnson’s brother has several guys who can handle multiple opponents at once. A few of them can definitely deal with just one person. Tomorrow I’ll talk to John and have everything arranged. I’ll make sure this gets sorted for you," Olivia said, as her hand moved to draw circles on John’s chest.

John Smith finally felt a bit better. He slapped Olivia’s backside and said, "Alright, if you help me get back at him, I’ll cast you in two blockbuster films."

"Thank you, Director Jackson!" Olivia was overjoyed and threw herself onto John Smith.

John Smith laughed heartily, his hands already roaming over Olivia’s body.

Things quickly heated up as the two stripped off their clothes and ended up in bed. But just as John Smith was about to consummate the act, a sharp pain suddenly shot through his lower abdomen. At first, he thought nothing of it and tried to push through, but the pain grew so intense that he couldn’t bear it, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Olivia was startled and panicked. "Director Jackson, we need to go to the hospital!"

Although John Smith was in agony, he forced himself to endure it and said, "No way. How can I go to the hospital for something like this? If someone recognizes me, I’ll be in big trouble. Maybe it’s just because that guy hit me earlier. I’ll rest for a bit and it should be fine."

After resting for a while, the pain subsided. Olivia started to cuddle up to him again, but as soon as John Smith attempted anything intimate, the excruciating pain returned.

This time, the pain was far worse than before, and it scared him. He didn’t want to risk internal injuries like ruptured organs, so he hurriedly got dressed and went to the hospital with Olivia.

However, after a series of tests, the hospital found nothing unusual apart from some minor bruising—everything else was normal.

After all the effort, the two returned to the hotel. John Smith had lost much of his passion, but he couldn’t shake the fear that something might be seriously wrong with him. To test it, he and Olivia tried being intimate once more, and again, the unbearable pain reemerged.

Now, John Smith was truly dumbfounded. He was fine during normal times, but as soon as he got intimate with a woman, this mysterious pain kicked in. What kind of strange illness was this? And the hospital couldn’t even identify it!

"Could it be that guy’s doing?" Olivia cautiously asked.

John Smith had thought of that possibility too. But if the guy had really caused this, wouldn’t the hospital have detected it?

"If it really was that guy, then we definitely can’t let him off the hook."

"Bullshit, of course I won’t let him off! But if I’m seriously damaged, even killing him won’t fix anything. No, I need to visit a major hospital tomorrow for more tests."

Initially, John Smith had planned to seek revenge against James Brown right away, but given his current circumstances, he wasn’t in the mood. The next day, he rushed to a major hospital for further examination, but again, they found nothing wrong.

To confirm, John hired another woman. Just as before, every time he attempted something intimate, the pain struck with increasing intensity. Now, he was genuinely terrified—what kind of weird disease had he contracted?

"Ah! Could it be that guy’s dirty trick?" John Smith suddenly thought of a possibility, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

Indeed, it was James Brown’s doing. A scumbag like John Smith wouldn’t be let off easily by James. This was a special version of the Meridian Severance Technique, a secret martial arts technique of SSUP Country.

This form of martial arts had largely been lost to history. Even among those familiar with it, few could master it. Nationwide, fewer than five people were said to possess this skill.

James Brown had used the technique to block one of John Smith’s meridians. Any attempt at intimacy disrupted the flow of energy through his body, causing severe pain. What’s more, conventional medical equipment couldn’t detect this blocked meridian. The only solutions were for James to release the block himself or for John Smith to find one of the other rare practitioners of this advanced martial arts technique to fix it.

But those who mastered this ability were anything but ordinary. John Smith had little chance of finding them.

After dropping off Laura and Alice at their homes, James Brown returned to his own place. By then, it was already past eleven o’clock.

Emily Lopez was asleep, but Gina Lopez was still awake. As soon as James got into bed, Gina asked, "What happened? Why did you rush out like that?"

James didn’t hide anything and recounted the day’s events in detail.

"Jennifer Hog is our company’s brand ambassador. If something happened to her, it would reflect poorly on us too. Helping her was the right thing to do. Besides, that John Smith is disgusting—just beating him up is letting him off easy. He should be arrested and sentenced," Gina said passionately. She was always quick to anger, especially when it came to people like John Smith, who preyed on women.

"As long as you don’t blame me," James replied with a sigh of relief. Given that he was now a married man, it was natural for Gina to feel uneasy about how often he helped other women.

"I didn’t say I wouldn’t blame you. Next time something like this happens, can you at least inform me first? You had me worried sick," Gina said with a hint of exasperation.

"Alright, next time I’ll make sure to check in with my wife before rushing out," James replied playfully, reaching out to Gina affectionately.

"Stop it! It’s that time of the month," Gina warned him despite enjoying his closeness.

James chuckled softly and said, "Fine, but I can still cuddle, right?"

Gina’s eyes sparkled with warmth as she teased, "If you can hold back, go ahead."

That night, James could only satisfy himself with some innocent cuddling. Being a thoughtful husband, he understood and respected Gina’s rhythms. The next morning, he even went out early to buy fresh pork liver and made a nutritious liver congee for Gina, who needed something to restore her energy. Gina was touched—it wasn’t wealth or power but having a caring husband that mattered most.

"Brother-in-law, this liver congee doesn’t taste good at all," Emily Lopez pouted, voicing her first-ever complaint about James’s cooking.

James smiled and said, "Your sister needs it for the next couple of days to replenish her blood."

"Oh..." Emily gave Gina a knowing look before grinning mischievously. "Then I better be careful so you don’t figure out my schedule and start making this gross congee for me, too. I can’t stomach it."

James coughed awkwardly. Keeping track of his wife’s cycle was normal, but it would definitely be overstepping to track his sister-in-law’s as well.

Gina shot Emily a glare and said, "If you don’t want to drink it, your brother-in-law won’t bother making it for you anyway. Hurry up and eat, or you’ll be late for work."

It was Monday, and everyone had to return to work. James dropped Emily off at the art school before heading to his company. As for Gina, she made sure to go in first to avoid others gossiping if they were seen arriving together.

Back when they weren’t truly married, Gina hadn’t cared much about what others thought. But now that they were, she was more cautious about appearances.

As soon as James arrived at his office, Robert Thompson came over to chat about workplace gossip. The young man loved to discuss office beauties and had developed a good rapport with James lately, even treating him like a mentor.

By midmorning, James’s phone buzzed—it was a call from Alice Brown. She was worried that John Smith might still try to cause trouble for Jennifer Hog. After all, James was someone John definitely couldn’t afford to provoke, but Jennifer was just a small-time TV host in John’s eyes, which meant nothing.

"Don’t worry. In no time at all, John will be calling Jennifer himself to apologize," James said confidently.

Alice assumed James was leveraging connections to pressure John, unaware that James’s supposed elite background in the Capital of SSUP was nothing but a facade. There was no need for such tactics—James had other ways to deal with scumbags like John Smith.
