Chapter 314: Chapter 322 Little Cindy’s Wind Chime

Although both were drunk, they didn’t lose their morals after drinking, nor did they end up in bed, but instead supported each other to the sofa. After spouting some nonsense, the two fell asleep on the sofa, leaning on each other.

When James Brown woke up the next day, he found Lucy Campbell hugging his thigh and sleeping soundly, while his feet were resting on her chest, feeling the amazing elasticity from her chest.

James Brown rubbed his forehead and couldn’t help but smile wryly, suspecting whether Lucy Campbell had slipped something into the drink, although that was of course impossible.

Such a pose was inevitably ambiguous, especially with Lucy Campbell, the most beautiful woman in SSUP Country, which made him feel quite pressured. And his smelly feet were on her sacred JG Peak, which felt like a desecration.

He gently moved his feet, then sat up. James Brown cradled Lucy Campbell’s head and put a cushion under it, intending to pull her arm away so he could move his foot that had taken advantage all night long.

But just then, Lucy Campbell smacked her lips, tightening her arms around James Brown’s leg, as if she found sleeping this way very comfortable.

Looking at Lucy Campbell’s sweet sleeping face, James Brown suddenly couldn’t bear to disturb her. Even though she was usually so lofty when awake, at this moment, she was just a little woman.

"Fine, if you like hugging then go ahead." James Brown shook his head, lay back down, and closed his eyes to rest.

After another half an hour, Lucy Campbell finally woke up, realizing she had been hugging James Brown’s leg all night, felt a bit embarrassed, and quickly let go of his leg and sat up. She straightened her clothes and said, "How did I drink too much."

James Brown laughed: "I drank too much too, luckily I didn’t do anything inappropriate."

Lucy Campbell playfully hit James Brown’s leg, saying, "Who knows if you did anything, I was so drunk last night, I wouldn’t know what you did."

"You don’t really think I did something, do you?" James Brown widened his eyes.

Lucy Campbell lifted her chin, saying: "Yeah, you didn’t do that, but as for touching and kissing me, how would I know?"

"I want to, but I didn’t dare." James Brown also knew Lucy Campbell was joking and played along with her words.

"You really are a coward. A man shouldn’t be so faint-hearted."

"So you’re encouraging me? Next time I get you drunk, I’ll definitely do it."

"Hehe, then wait until you make me drunk next time."

After joking for a while, James Brown said to Lucy Campbell, "Someone might be targeting you recently. Although only one person acted yesterday, there were still two others nearby, and perhaps others as well. Be careful when you go out these next few days; it’s best to bring more bodyguards."

Lucy Campbell appreciated James Brown’s concern and nodded, saying, "I know, but I am returning to the Capital of SSUP today."

"Hmm, it will be better in the Capital of SSUP. It’s too difficult for those forces to infiltrate there." The Capital of SSUP was important territory, with numerous defensive agencies. Aside from the powerful Hawk Squad, there were many departments nearly as formidable, and any force trying to cause trouble in the Capital of SSUP would be under surveillance before any action could be taken.

What Lucy Campbell was really looking forward to, was James Brown asking her when she would return, but he did not ask, leaving her somewhat disappointed. However, she understood that although last night brought them much closer, it would take time before she could be cared for by James Brown like Emma Campbell.

"I have some things to take care of this trip back, I won’t return for a short while. If you have any problems, just call me."

"Alright, if I encounter any official matters, I’ll ask for your help."

"Hehe, just because of your..." Lucy Campbell originally wanted to mention his identity as her cousin, but realizing that might sound demeaning, she stopped herself.

James Brown took over with a smile: "I almost forgot, I am your cousin after all. Mayors and the like, who would dare not to show me respect."

Seeing James Brown speak so comfortably without any inferiority complex, Lucy Campbell laughed. This was the kind of man she liked: informal, composed, and confident. "Okay then, I’m heading home. Oh, and remember, next time I come back, you owe me stinky tofu."

"No problem, we’ll skip dinner and just have stinky tofu."

"Lisa Smith, it’s a deal then." Lucy Campbell got up and left James Brown’s home, and James Brown cleaned up a bit before heading to work.

Today was already Tuesday, and the employees in the company were invigorated by the weekend trip, James Brown could feel the vibrant working spirit as soon as he arrived at the office.

Compared to other employees, James Brown felt that he was the most relaxed person in this company, working like three days on and two days off.

Just as he sat down in his office, Gina Lopez’s call came in, and James Brown had to get up again to go to Gina Lopez’s office.

"How did it go?" Gina Lopez’s eyes showed concern.

James Brown smiled: "It’s all settled."

"Is it over just like that?" Gina Lopez asked in surprise as she looked at James Brown, "How did it end?"

James Brown simply recounted the events, but Gina Lopez quickly sensed the danger involved. After he finished, she stared at him and said, "You better not get involved in such dangerous things in the future. There are police to handle cases; they don’t need you stepping in."

James Brown could feel Gina’s concern, so he didn’t mind her authoritative tone and laughed, "I was just helping a friend, and besides, it was quite thrilling."

"Yeah, so thrilling. You got to spend every day with a beautiful policewoman and even pretend to be lovers. You must have taken quite the advantage," she taunted.

James Brown burst into laughter, aware that he couldn’t hide it from Gina. The other day, when Gina pretended to be his wife and they had done such things, it was natural for him to share intimate moments with Helen Wilson, who was playing the role of his lover.

"Right, my dad’s birthday is in a couple of days. He wants us to go back home. Is that going to be a problem for you?"

"Your dad’s birthday? Why do I have to go back for that?"

"Don’t play dumb with me. Don’t forget, as far as they’re concerned, we’re already married. What would it look like if you didn’t show up?"

"Oh... I actually forgot about that. When will this ever end?" James Brown’s face was filled with dismay.

Gina was somewhat displeased. James was nice to everyone else but always seemed reluctant when it came to her, which made her feel like a failure. She took a deep breath and said, "Just bear with it. At the very least, I am your friend, right? You did such dangerous stuff for Helen, your police friend. You wouldn’t refuse to help me with this small favor, would you?"

"Alright, I’ll help. Is that okay?"

"Good, we’ll go back home this Friday and come back on Sunday."

The corner of James Brown’s mouth twitched as he said, "Can’t we pick another day?"

"Do birthdays get to be rescheduled?"

"Well, no, they don’t. Okay, I’ll go."

"Humph, does this interfere with your time with your little girlfriend?"

"You know about that too?" James Brown replied with irritation.

Gina was quite pleased with herself. She had managed to keep James from spending the last weekend with his girlfriend during the company trip, and this weekend he would be at home for his father’s birthday, ensuring that he couldn’t be with Emma Campbell again.

However, Gina quickly scolded herself. Even if she wanted to compete for his attention, she would do so fair and square. By acting like this, she seemed somewhat despicable. Even if she won, it would be no honor.

Raising her head, Gina said to James, "This timing is just a coincidence. I didn’t do it on purpose to disrupt you two. If I, Gina Lopez, were to compete, I would absolutely not resort to such tactics."

James chuckled, "It would be even better if you weren’t part of the competition."

"Don’t you wish," Gina replied, her anger stirred up by James once again as she glared at him fiercely.

"Then suit yourself. I’m leaving." After saying that, James Brown left Gina’s office and went straight back to his own.

As it approached noon, Sarah Utah entered his office, smiling sweetly, "Big Brother Brown, you’re back."

James Brown smiled and said, "Yes, I came back after finishing up the work." Seeing Sarah reminded him of the secret between Sarah and Gina, which he had forgotten to ask about. It seemed he would have to ask about it later.

"Look what this is?" Sarah pulled out a box and handed it to James.

"A gift, huh?" James Brown received it with a chuckle.

"Open it and see," Sarah said, with her hands clasped behind her back, leaning forward slightly, a sweet smile on her face.

James sat on the sofa, opened the box, and found it filled with beautiful shells strung together with silk threads—it was a lovely shell wind chime.

"Big Brother Brown, I saw these shell wind chimes for sale on the island, but they weren’t very nice. So, I picked some shells myself and made one. I thought about hanging it in your office, Big Brother Brown. When the wind blows, it will make a tinkling sound, which should be quite pleasant," she said, as her hands gestured in the air.

Before Sarah could continue, James suddenly grabbed her hand. Sarah quickly tried to pull her hand back, looking somewhat guilty as she said, "Big Brother Brown... I... I..."

James wasn’t trying to be intimate with Sarah; rather, he had noticed there seemed to be injuries on her hands. Now holding her left hand in his palm, he saw many needle-like wounds on her fingers and palms, which made his heart ache—these must have been wounds from making the wind chime.

Looking at the wind chime, James felt a heavy and moved heart. The wind chime wasn’t valuable; such shells could be found everywhere on the beach, but this particular wind chime embodied Sarah’s deep affection, profoundly touching James Brown’s heart.
