Chapter 273: Chapter 280: Going to the Beach

Gina Lopez suddenly blushed fiercely, then looked at James Brown with a bit of curiosity, while James Brown maintained an innocent expression, himself confused as to why Lucy Campbell would suddenly say that.

"What’s there to be embarrassed about, don’t you like James Brown?" Lucy Campbell smiled as she looked at Gina Lopez.

Gina Lopez coughed dryly, trying to cover up her awkwardness, and said, "I used to think this guy was quite a mess, but having interacted with him now, he seems quite nice. I’m trying."

Lucy Campbell narrowed her eyes slightly and said, "You need to ’try’ for this kind of thing?"

Gina Lopez nodded and replied, "Yeah, I am indeed having some thoughts about him, but it seems like he doesn’t really think much about me."

Curious, Lucy Campbell looked at James Brown and said, "Could it be that our Mr. Lopez doesn’t even meet your standards for a girlfriend?"

James Brown glanced at Lucy Campbell and said, "Stop trying to pair people up here, you know I already have a girlfriend."

Lucy Campbell gave a faint smile and said, "But you’re not married yet, having a couple more options is good."

James Brown hastily said, "Stop right there. How I date and who I date is not something you two need to worry about."

Gina Lopez rolled her eyes at James Brown, and Lucy Campbell’s lips curled into a smile. She hadn’t specifically investigated James, but she was aware of his general situation here. As a smart woman, she wouldn’t meddle with James and Emma Campbell’s relationship. However, getting others involved in competing and forcing James into indecision was a wise move on her part.

Even though Gina Lopez was a savvy CEO, she was no match for Lucy Campbell, especially when it came to emotions; she was more inexperienced and certainly not Lucy’s opponent. At this moment, how could she guess that Lucy Campbell was actually harboring such intentions?

Lucy Campbell sat with Gina Lopez for a while, but as people frequently visited Gina, Lucy didn’t stay long and proposed to leave early.

"Mr. Lopez, I’ll take James with me and ask for a day off for him. I’m meeting some people today, and it’s inconvenient to bring my own bodyguard; having James with me would be much more convenient."

Gina Lopez couldn’t really object to this. She never believed that James Brown would have any affections towards Lucy Campbell. In her heart, Lucy’s persona was on another level—she couldn’t even measure how far behind she and James were compared to Lucy.

They got into a red Porsche, and James Brown started the car, asking, "Where would you like to go today?"

Lucy Campbell smiled slightly and said, "You decide wherever you think is good; I just want to relax today."

James Brown couldn’t quite grasp what someone like Lucy Campbell could be thinking, but since Lucy had said so, after thinking a bit, he suggested, "Then let’s just drive along the beach."

Lucy Campbell turned to look at James Brown and asked, "You’re not hoping to see me in swimwear, are you?"

James hadn’t initially thought that, but Lucy’s comment greatly piqued his interest, and he laughed, saying, "Getting the chance to see SSUP Country’s most beautiful woman in swimwear is certainly something to be excited about."

Lucy Campbell chuckled lightly, "Then let’s go to the beach. Honestly, it’s been a long time since I took a sea bath."

James Brown laughed heartily and said, "Then let’s first go buy some swimwear, hehe..." while imagining Lucy Campbell in a bikini.

However, Lucy Campbell didn’t buy a bikini but chose a one-piece swimsuit instead, which left James Brown somewhat disappointed, his face involuntarily showing it.

Lucy Campbell grinned and said, "Sorry, I’m not comfortable wearing bikinis."

James Brown, called out by Lucy, chuckled awkwardly, "That’s really a pity. I wonder which lucky man will get to see you in a bikini."

Lucy Campbell smiled lightly, not saying anything. If anyone was likely, in her heart, it was obviously James Brown, but she dared not say it aloud for fear of scaring him away.

The two arrived at a small pier where James Brown then remembered a small speedboat. Donning life jackets, they headed to a slightly more distant island from the coastline. James knew it had a nice beach—an unusual spot in YODC City.

They had just settled when the speedboat started moving. The speed of the boat was quite fast, and the powerful engine noise was somewhat piercing.

Lucy Campbell leaned back, her hands instinctively grabbing one armrest and the other grabbing James Brown’s arm.

James Brown turned and smiled at Lucy Campbell, saying, "Don’t be nervous, speedboats might seem dangerous, but they’re actually very safe."

Lucy Campbell nodded, fully trusting James Brown. She didn’t feel nervous initially, but after the speedboat had been running for a while, Lucy did start feeling a bit seasick; her stomach became upset, her face turned pale, and sweat started to bead on her forehead.

James really overlooked this matter; many are prone to motion sickness on boats, especially on such a turbulent speedboat. Even people who generally don’t get seasick might find themselves feeling queasy under these conditions.

"Give me your hand." James Brown extended his palm.

Lucy Campbell didn’t hesitate at all and placed her hand into James Brown’s palm. This was a very ordinary gesture, but if the elite youngsters from the Capital saw this scene, they would be shocked. They always wanted to get close to Lucy Campbell, but she never gave them a chance, and now she was actually putting her hand into another man’s hand.

James Brown held Lucy Campbell’s hands at their pads firmly and felt that her skin was incredibly soft, perhaps even more delicate than a newborn baby’s skin. He wondered how she managed to maintain such softness. Her hands seemed so fragile that he worried he might damage them just by touching, and at that moment, he really hesitated to apply any pressure.

But seeing Lucy Campbell’s pitiful look, he had to harden his heart. With a pinch of his thumb and forefinger, Lucy Campbell immediately let out a low cry and looked at James Brown in pain, saying, "It hurts."

James Brown gave a slight smile and said, "This is the only way to prevent you from getting seasick; you’ll have to endure it."

"Okay, but could you... be gentler?" Lucy Campbell knew it was futile to ask and braced herself for the lingering pain in her hand.

After about ten minutes of this, Lucy Campbell felt that her hands were numb, so much so that she couldn’t feel the pain anymore, yet thankfully, her seasickness had significantly subsided.

At that point, James Brown also let go of her hands. The gesture might have seemed simple but maintaining that force for so long would have tired out anyone else. Even James Brown’s thumbs and forefingers had stiffened. Shaking his hands, he said, "Feeling better now?"

"Much better." Lucy Campbell smiled at James Brown, feeling very contented. With him around, it seemed like no challenge was too great.

An hour later, the speedboat arrived at a small island with a dock where a few dozen families lived.

James Brown jumped off the boat first and Lucy Campbell naturally extended her hand to him, comfortably letting him help her onto the dock.

They walked up the path from the dock and soon arrived at a beach. Upon reaching, James Brown sighed, "I thought there would be no one here, but it turns out there are quite a few people."

By then, there were already over twenty people on the beach and dozens more in the sea. Compared to other beach resorts, the number was minimal, but to James Brown, this beautiful spot was no longer a secluded haven.

"What are you sighing about?" Lucy Campbell didn’t see it that way; to her, finding such a deserted beach was already quite a score.

James Brown looked at her and said, "Of course I have to sigh. So many people getting an advantage here."

Lucy Campbell chuckled and teased, "Once we get in the water, who can even make out what anyone looks like? And everyone dressed like this, what’s there to see?"

James Brown laughed, "Let’s go then. I was thinking about whether we should change behind the rocks, but now we don’t need to find a place for that; everything’s been taken care of."

The place had indeed turned into a nice little tourist spot. Although the facilities weren’t high-end, they were quite comprehensive. They went to change into their swimwear separately and met outside the changing rooms.

The moment he saw Lucy Campbell, James Brown was spellbound. Normally, he didn’t entertain any special thoughts about her, but who didn’t enjoy watching a beautiful woman, especially one in a swimsuit? James had always loved visiting beaches on his days off for this exact reason.

But now, seeing Lucy Campbell in a swimsuit, James Brown knew that his interest in beach beauties would never be the same. She looked stunning. The swimsuit was ordinary and not very revealing, but on Lucy Campbell, it accentuated her physique in a way that was irresistibly tempting to any man, stirring an urge in James Brown to pin her down and act ungentlemanly.

Lucy Campbell was quite pleased with his reaction. In her recent interactions with James, his gaze had always seemed too calm, which left her feeling a bit defeated. Now, her confidence had returned.

"What are you daydreaming about?" Lucy Campbell asked knowingly, a playful smile on her face.

James Brown quickly grabbed her hand and said, "Let’s go," then dashed towards the beach.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Lucy Campbell was puzzled by his reaction, chasing after and questioning him.

Only when they reached the water, allowing it to submerge most of Lucy Campbell’s body, did James Brown let out a sigh of relief and said, "That was really dangerous just now."

"Dangerous?" Lucy Campbell looked around impulsively, but it seemed like no one was paying any attention to her.

James Brown nodded vigorously, saying seriously, "Yes, too dangerous. If you had dawdled, some man might have seen you and I can guarantee, voyeurism could have followed. That would’ve been dangerous, right?"

Lucy Campbell burst into giggles and said, "You’re really funny; it’s not that serious."

"Have you never been harassed before?"

"Never," Lucy Campbell replied naturally.

"You’re so beautiful, a bona fide femme fatale, and yet no one has harassed you? That’s unreasonable," James Brown expressed his confusion but quickly figured it out. With Lucy Campbell’s status, even if men were tempted, who would dare harass her? And those who didn’t know who she was wouldn’t have had the chance to even approach her. It’s only the beautiful, yet background-less women who are more vulnerable to such behaviors.
