"Jack...," a young male colleague approached, having just greeted James, but when he saw Lucy, he couldn’t utter the word "manage" at all.

"Ouch!" Another male employee turned his head back to look at Lucy after she passed by, completely ignoring what was in front of him, and ran straight into a wall, bumping his forehead and creating a big lump.

But Lucy heard him, sighed, and said, "I don’t want it either, but it’s not like I can make myself look uglier, right?"

James rolled his eyes and said: "How could you even say that? You’ll make other female colleagues lose the will to live. If they heard you, they’d probably want to die."

Lucy let out a gentle laugh, "Come on, let’s go have a look in your office first."

"Aren’t you going to meet Mr. Lopez and the others first?"

"Hehe, if I want to work in this company, I have to get through you, the HR manager, right? Otherwise, how could I be hired?"

"Alright, I give up," James didn’t take it seriously, completely accepting Lucy’s words as a joke.

However, after this jest, Lucy suddenly had a bold idea; even though she now lived close to James, the best way to get to know him better would be to work with him. So now, she really was considering working here with James.

"Big Brother Brown, you’re back," came the sound of high heels clacking rapidly against the floor, followed by Sarah’s voice reaching James’s ears.

James stopped, turned around to meet Sarah, and smiled, "Yes, I’m back. Haven’t seen you for a few days, Sarah, you’ve become even prettier."

Sarah was wearing the same dress she had bought with James, and upon hearing his compliment, her heart was sweeter than honey. She approached James with a flushed face and said, "Big Brother Brown, you’re so naughty. Teasing me as soon as you get back."

James smiled and replied, "I’m not teasing you. You truly look beautiful, Sarah."

Sarah coyly twisted her body, about to talk to James, but then she saw Lucy by his side. Despite both being beautiful women, Sarah was instantly astonished by Lucy’s beauty and her gaze was drawn to her. Feeling exhilarated by James’s compliments a moment ago, she now felt like an ugly duckling next to Lucy, who was like a proud swan.

"Big Brother Brown, who is this...," Sarah stammered, a flicker of panic in her eyes. She had never met James’s girlfriend, Emma, and feared that if this woman was Emma, she would have no chance at all.

James gave a slight smile and said, "This is Lucy, she is..."

Lucy interrupted James without a trace, politely stating, "I’m here for a job interview."

James paused, surprised. Lucy had only mentioned she was his friend when she arrived, but now suddenly she was talking about an interview? What was she up to?

Sarah’s heart eased instantly, and she quickly smiled, "I see. In that case, Big Brother Brown, I won’t disturb you at work. Come and see me when you have time."

James nodded and said, "Sure, I’ll go back to my office now."

Lucy nodded to Sarah and went off with James.

Watching the two leave, Sarah still felt a bit uneasy. What if Lucy, working at the company, fell for Big Brother Brown? The thought of Lucy’s beauty left Sarah with no courage to compete.

Once in James’s office, Lucy curiously made a round and then sat down in the chair opposite to Leonardo James, frowning slightly, "Your office is a bit too small, isn’t it? They should give you a bigger one. Also, these facilities are too ordinary, they ought to be better."

James replied promptly, "I think it’s fine. That’s the standard for mid-level managers in our company."

Lucy smiled secretly. She had overlooked James’s status here and treated him as if he were on her level, which would naturally mean that his office was far from satisfactory.

"By the way, why did you say you were here for an interview?" James asked, puzzled.

Lucy chuckled, playfully blinking her eyes, and said, "Why, is that not allowed?"

"This is your company, of course, you can play around however you like," James Brown said with a smile.

Lucy Campbell squinted her eyes at James Brown and said, "Yeah, I’m getting a bit tired of my life as it is. Maybe one day I’ll really come over and play a small staff member for fun. With you here, I wouldn’t need to worry about my safety. That way, I’d be very free and also have a lot of fun."

James Brown rolled his eyes at Lucy Campbell, saying, "Do I have the right to refuse you?"

"Anyway, when that happens, I’ll be your subordinate. Whatever you tell me to do, I’ll do it. I’ll follow your commands."

James Brown rubbed his nose and said, "That actually sounds quite nice, being able to command you. That’s probably something all the men in the world dream of."

Lucy Campbell really hoped James Brown would become that kind of bold toad, but she also knew that her affection for James Brown had developed not only because he saved her but also because James Brown never lost his reason over her beauty. She smiled and said, "Well, that may not necessarily be the case. Jason Duke ended up with the Seven Fairy Ladies, and Tom Brown even married the Weaver Maiden."

"Ha, those two are pure fools. Just look at what happened to them in the end."

Lucy’s face darkened, and she glared white-eyed at James Brown, saying, "You really have no sense of romance, no understanding of great love."

"Love can’t be eaten, and you can’t live a lifetime on love alone."

A knock on the door interrupted the conversation between James Brown and Lucy Campbell. A staff member from the HR department came in. He was the deputy manager of HR, and in the days when James Brown was gone, it was he who had been in charge. Now with James Brown back, naturally, he had to come and report.
