Chapter 257: Chapter 262: The Tigress Comes Out of the Mountain
Gina Lopez became anxious as well due to James Brown’s actions, so she set aside her shyness and thought carefully before saying, "Tell me, who exactly are you?"
James Brown smacked his forehead and exclaimed, "Oh no."
Emily Lopez shook her head, seemingly exasperated, and said, "Sister, you’re really too silly. You should have played along with him. Why would you ask who he is? Aren’t you exposing your identity right away?"
Gina Lopez’s mouth twitched as she replied, "I didn’t know about this beforehand like you did. When I heard the disgusting way he spoke, I got angry on the spot."
James Brown waved it off and asked, "What did he say next?"
Gina Lopez hurriedly answered, "He said, ’Huh, aren’t you the one Mr. Lee brought yesterday? Ah, you’re not Mr. Lee’s real wife, are you?’"
After a pause, Gina Lopez’s expression turned somewhat awkward, but she continued, "I told him I was, and asked which woman that bastard was out with yesterday?"
"He just laughed and said, ’I’m just kidding, sister-in-law. Mr. Lee is not that sort of person. He has praised you a lot to me. Oh yes, sister-in-law, where do you work? I’ll come visit sometime, I should bring you a gift.’"
James Brown didn’t respond, but stared at Gina Lopez, while Emily Lopez anxiously said, "You didn’t tell him, did you?"
Gina Lopez cleared her throat and said, "When I heard him say that, it was obviously made up. You definitely wouldn’t have said I was your wife, so I figured he must have some other motive. Just then you knocked on the door, so I told him you had come back and said you would call him later."
James Brown breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Gina Lopez hadn’t misspoken. However, what originally involved only him and Helen Wilson now inadvertently involved Gina Lopez as well.
Emily Lopez stroked her chin, shaking her head thoughtfully, and said, "The problem doesn’t seem too big. We just need to cover up the fact that my sister is the wife."
James Brown nodded and said, "Then I’ll call him right now."
After dialing John Smith’s number and hearing it ring twice, John Smith picked up and cheerfully said, "Mr. Lee, are you home?"
James Brown joked, "What home, I’m at the hotel with my wife."
"Mr. Lee, you even brought your wife? That’s pretty impressive!"
James Brown lowered his voice, whispering, "Impressive my foot, my wife is the fierce tiger. She came here specially fearing I would bring other women. I just want to make some extra money on this deal, and I didn’t dare tell her. Don’t let it slip, else I’d have been busy for nothing."
John Smith laughed heartily and reassured, "Don’t worry, I didn’t spill the beans. But now that the real wife is here, as a brother I have to support your face. Otherwise, you’d have a hard time explaining yourself."
James Brown hastily declined, "No need, I can handle her."
"How can that be enough? Now that sister-in-law is here, I, as a brother, must at least treat you. It’s settled then. It’s past five now, let’s meet at M Hotel at seven o’clock."
"Wait, in that case, later you can say you want to help me with the steel material deal. I’ll say that’s what I came here for this time."
"Understood, I’ve also dealt with steel materials before, I definitely won’t slip up."
After hanging up, James Brown gave a wry smile to Gina Lopez and said, "He insists on inviting us to dinner."
Gina Lopez looked at James Brown in surprise and asked, "You mean... you want me to go with you?"
"It seems like we have to go. If not, he will definitely start suspecting."
Gina Lopez hesitated, as going along with such a plan made her anxious, especially since the person they were going to meet was so inappropriate, which intensified her aversion.
At this point, Emily Lopez excitedly said, "If my sister doesn’t go, I’ll go with you, brother-in-law. Quickly tell me, what should I do there?"
Gina Lopez was startled and quickly objected, "No way, how can you go?"
Emily Lopez argued discontentedly, "Why can’t I go? That guy doesn’t recognize you, plus, we’re twins. Even if he knows you, I can definitely pretend to be you without a problem, and besides, such an exhilarating and thrilling affair, I must go and see for myself."
Gina Lopez immediately said to James Brown, "Alright, I’ll go with you."
Emily Lopez cried out in frustration, "Sister, are you serious? I only said I’d go because you didn’t want to, and now that I’m willing, you insist on going."
Gina Lopez glared and said, "You keep calling him ’brother-in-law’. Can you manage that? Wouldn’t you be found out right away?"
Emily Lopez found herself at a loss for words and argued weakly, "Can’t I try to change that?"
"This isn’t something to be tried! Didn’t you hear what your brother-in-law said? This is dangerous. If something goes wrong, everyone will be in trouble. This is why you can’t go. If anyone should, it’s got to be me."
James waved his hand, "Stop arguing. If someone really has to go, it should be Gina. Sandra, you’re really not cut out for this."
Sandra pouted unhappily and grabbed James’s arm, shaking it as she pleaded, "Brother-in-law, just take me with you. I promise I’ll perform exceptionally well."
"It’s really not going to work. You’ve already gotten used to calling me that way. If you were to change it, it would definitely leave a trace."
"But my sister, she..."
"It’s exactly because she just calls me by my name that it works."
"But she’s so fierce."
"We need her to play a tigress this time, don’t we?"
"Oh, a tigress!" Sandra suddenly burst out laughing, then slyly looked at Gina and said, "You’re right, this role is indeed made for my sister."
"What did you say? You think I’m like a tigress?" Gina’s face fell.
Sandra completely ignored Gina’s expression, instead poking James playfully as she giggled, "Brother-in-law, don’t you agree she’s very much like one?"
James laughed awkwardly. It was better not to engage with such metaphors, or else he’d be asking for trouble. Unexpectedly, Gina herself chuckled and retorted, "You silly girl, you’re talking nonsense; am I that fierce?"
James quickly added, "You have to be fierce today; you really need to play the part of the tigress."
Gina nodded and said, "I don’t have to be completely fierce though, right? Even if I’m fierce at home, I should still save some face for you in public as a wife, right? Otherwise, it wouldn’t be quite proper."
Sandra immediately nodded vigorously, "Not only should you not be arbitrarily fierce, but you also need to show affection. Especially you, brother-in-law, you can’t treat my sister like you usually do. You said my sister is fierce, so you must be both respectful and loving towards her, that’s the only way to truly show whipped behavior."
James wiped some sweat from his brow, "Alright, but it’s about time we left. We’ll just have to adapt as necessary. Besides, he doesn’t know how you and your sister behave at home, so just displaying a normal relationship between husband and wife should do."
Sandra excitedly exclaimed, "Then here’s to your striking success and triumphant conquest."
Gina stood up with her fighting spirit high, "Gina Lopez has never been defeated in the business world. I’m confident that something like this won’t be too difficult for me."
Looking at the twin sisters, James couldn’t help but smile, "Well then, let’s set off."
While heading downstairs, James briefed Gina on the case’s details. While this was meant to be confidential, and Helen wasn’t supposed to share it with anyone, James still had absolute trust in Gina, especially now that she was involved, so he naturally had to clarify everything to her.
Gina had never expected the case to be so significant and voiced her concern, "This case sounds too dangerous. You’re not a police officer, why get involved?"
James shrugged, "A friend asked for my help; I couldn’t refuse."
"You’re really loyal, aren’t you? It’s a female friend, isn’t it?" Gina’s intuition was remarkably sharp.
James didn’t deny it, "Yes, she’s a cop, now a station chief, with a strong sense of justice. She took one million dollars out of her own pocket to go undercover for this case; she’s invested a lot. I wouldn’t be able to face myself if I didn’t help her."
"There are police officers like that?" Gina looked at James doubtfully.
"There are indeed. When you meet her, you’ll understand. Sandra has met her; her name is Helen Wilson."
"I do want to meet her now that you mention it. And she must be beautiful, right?"
"You’re right again."
Gina pursed her lips, "I knew it. If she were just an ordinary-looking girl, you wouldn’t care so much."
James chuckled dryly, but Gina seemed to have a point. If it were just an average-looking girl, he wouldn’t really bother to pay much attention. Everyone has a love for beauty, and while James might not necessarily have any special thoughts about a beautiful policewoman like Helen, it somehow felt more pleasant to help someone attractive.
They couldn’t drive to their destination this time, so before hailing a taxi, James called Helen to update her on the latest developments, which rather irritated her. She complained about James carelessly dropping his phone, but since it had already happened, Helen meticulously inquired about James’s plan. After learning that Gina would be helping out with the act, Helen finally breathed a sigh of relief.
However, Helen had no role to play this time. Currently posing as the mistress, she couldn’t appear now that Gina, the legitimate partner, was present. This made her quite uneasy, but there wasn’t much she could do except to remind James not to mess things up.
As they discussed the matter, Helen suddenly realized a critical issue, exclaiming, "You haven’t come over for makeup yet!"
James laughed, "I called you precisely because I need to stop by your place. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to come over so early."
Gina, upon hearing this, felt a bit uneasy for no apparent reason. The thought of meeting that policewoman caused her to involuntarily puff up her chest, as a sense of combative spirit silently surged within her.
