Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Hacked

Sarah Utah had no idea what Helen Wilson was thinking; she was utterly stunned at the moment, hardly daring to believe her own eyes. She supposed there would be a sense of loss if she saw James Brown with any woman, but she would not be so surprised. However, the woman with James Brown right now was unmistakably Gina Lopez, the CEO of the company.

In the eyes of the company’s employees, Gina Lopez was the epitome of a strict CEO—usually undemonstrative and decisive, known as the Iron Lady. But the Gina Lopez at this moment was all smiles and playfully adorable, a complete transformation from the CEO everyone knew at the company.

Sarah even doubted if she had mistaken someone else for her, but then Gina Lopez turned her head around, and Sarah confirmed that she was not mistaken.

"My God, Big Brother Brown’s girlfriend is actually CEO Gina Lopez," Sarah was utterly shocked.

But soon, she remembered some things within the company. James Brown had joined the company through Gina Lopez, boldly offending Douglas Smith, who had the backing of the head office. Moreover, James was now Gina’s personal driver—a role she had never required before.

All this could prove the relationship between James Brown and Gina Lopez. As for James saying his girlfriend was a university student, that might be because he did not want to expose their romance, or perhaps to spare her dignity. If he said his girlfriend was CEO Gina Lopez, Sarah would indeed be devastated.

Now, Sarah was deeply stricken. If his girlfriend was a university student, Sarah might still harbor a glimmer of hope—perhaps one day, James would like her, choose her. But now that it was CEO Gina Lopez, she dared not entertain any thoughts at all.

"Don’t be silly. Seeing his true colors now is a good thing," Helen Wilson gently nudged Sarah and comforted her.

Sarah forced a smile and said, "Don’t worry, Helen, I’ve thought it through. If Big Brother Brown doesn’t fancy me, and he’s with her instead, I really have no other thoughts."

Helen nodded and asked, "By the way, do you know that woman?"

Without thinking, Sarah blurted out, "She is our company’s CEO."

"Company CEO?" Upon hearing the woman’s identity, Helen became even more certain of her judgment—that guy was just a swindler targeting rich women. Hmph, I won’t let you succeed.

"Let’s follow them and see," Helen immediately suggested to Sarah.

Sarah was startled and hurriedly shook her head, "No, no. That’s our company’s CEO. Their relationship is a secret, definitely not meant to be revealed. If I go there, it’ll be trouble later. Helen, you must absolutely not talk about this outside."

Helen nodded and said, "Alright. I have some things to do anyway, I’ll leave first. We can chat another time." With that, she waved to Sarah and sidestepped a store, trailing behind James Brown.

Initially, she had wanted Sarah to provide cover for her, but with Sarah not coming, she had to rely on herself. She now wanted to follow James and gather some evidence—after all, James was a slippery character, and pinning any charges on him would not be easy.

Watching James joke and laugh with the CEO, and seeing the CEO playfully hit James from time to time, displaying such intimacy, filled Helen with rage. That scoundrel was truly a master of deception—even a CEO had fallen for his tricks. Why couldn’t they see through his true nature?

After following them for half a day and watching James and the CEO purchase quite a few items—with James paying for everything—Helen’s disdain grew deeper. James was just a small-time employee, earning less than her, yet he spent hundreds on this woman without a hint of heartache.

On his normal salary, how could James be so generous? It seemed he was really willing to make an initial investment, expecting to earn back manifold. Besides, this money might have even been swindled from some other woman.

Finally, Helen watched as James and the woman left the mall and entered a café. She hesitated whether to follow them inside. Going in might risk James seeing her, yet staying out could mean missing out on gathering evidence.

After a moment’s hesitation, Helen still entered the café and found James and the woman already sitting by the window. James had his back to the door, and although the woman could see Helen, she did not recognize her. Helen felt a surge of joy and immediately took a seat behind James, separated by a row of booths. From this spot, she could perfectly hear what James and the woman were saying without being discovered.

But James and the woman only ordered two cups of coffee and then sat there drinking, speaking in whispers. Helen could not catch a single word, which frustrated her. That guy sure did handle things cautiously.

Feeling annoyed, Helen’s shoulder was suddenly tapped. She turned around, instantly on alert, to see James standing right next to her, with the woman smiling companionably at his side.

"Officer Monaghan, what a coincidence to see you here for a coffee," James greeted Helen with a sheepish grin.

Helen’s complexion changed subtly, but still, she feigned nonchalance, "Yes, I was a bit thirsty, just came here for coffee. You’re here for coffee too?"

Gina Lopez chuckled, finding the conversation almost comical—like a scripted play, full of vacuous words.

Aware that her own speech was too unnatural, Helen adjusted her mood and asked, "Who is this? I don’t think I’ve seen her before?"

James cheerfully introduced them, "Gina, this is Officer Monaghan, a remarkable policewoman. She solved several big cases within a few months of joining the force, and now she’s already been promoted to Deputy Chief. She’s practically an idol in YODC City’s police circles."

Mentioning this made Helen somewhat embarrassed; after all, the achievements were not due to her skills. Even though she was now a deputy chief, when introducing herself to acquaintances, she still preferred to say she was a beat officer.

"Hello! I’m Gina Lopez." Gina Lopez offered her hand to Helen Wilson in a friendly manner, but mischievously used her own name before giving James Brown a wink.

James Brown couldn’t help but smile, yet he kept mum.

Helen Wilson shook hands with Gina Lopez and said, "Hello," wanting to say something to her but also fearing she might spook her quarry, so she held back.

"Officer Monaghan, why are you alone? It’s rare to see a girl here by herself enjoying a coffee," James Brown asked deliberately. If he couldn’t detect Helen Wilson’s surveillance, he wouldn’t deserve to be a member of the Hawk Squad.

Helen Wilson had already thought about what to say if she ran into James Brown; now, with a smile, she said, "I’m waiting for a friend. She’ll be here soon."

"Oh, is that so? Well, since she’s not here yet, let’s have a drink together," suggested James Brown as he had already pulled Gina Lopez to sit down with him.

This caught Helen Wilson off guard. Now that the two were sitting with her, their conversation would certainly not be as unrestrained as before, and she wondered how she’d gather evidence of James Brown deceiving girls.

Helen Wilson quickly changed her mind; since she couldn’t collect any evidence on James Brown for the moment, she had to disrupt this guy’s scam. After all, when someone gets deceived, even if James Brown is caught, the damage would be done.

With a slight smile, Helen Wilson inquired, "Miss Lopez, where do you work?"

"At JYPP Region Company."

"Oh, the JYPP Region Company, huh? May I ask, what do you do there?"

Gina Lopez modestly smiled and replied, "I’m the general manager of JYPP Region Company."

At this moment, Gina Lopez imitated Gina Lopez so well that not even Helen Wilson or James Brown could tell whether she was Gina Lopez or Gina Lopez.

"To think, you’re Ms. Lopez. That’s quite an oversight on my part. But what puzzles me is, James Brown seems to be just an ordinary employee at your company. You two..." Helen Wilson left her sentence hanging and looked as though she was casually observing James Brown’s reaction.

However, James Brown was sitting there drinking his coffee, seemingly unaffected by her remarks.

"Heh, do you think we’re not well-matched?" Gina Lopez elegantly sipped her coffee, undeniably acknowledging her relationship with James Brown.

Helen Wilson nodded and said, "With your status, it would be easy for Ms. Lopez to find a more remarkable man. James Brown... I feel he’s not quite right for you."

Gina Lopez looked intently at Helen Wilson and said, "Officer Monaghan, forgive my bluntness, but how James Brown and I relate is our private matter. Why are you so interested? Could it be that you like James Brown too?"

Helen Wilson’s eyes widened in shock, and after being speechless for a moment, she said, "No, absolutely not. How could I like that guy? I’d rather be single for life than fancy a jerk like him."

Gina Lopez’s face darkened as she stated, "Officer Monaghan, are you implying I have no taste, or are you just insulting me outright?"

"I..." Helen Wilson was at a loss for words and couldn’t respond as adeptly as Gina Lopez in the moment.

"Sorry, we have to go now!" Gina Lopez said before standing up with James Brown, and arm in arm, they strode out of the coffee shop.

Helen Wilson was annoyed, thinking the woman had been utterly fooled by James Brown. She drained the coffee in her mug with a hateful gulp and rose to leave as well.

"Ma’am, your bill please," the waiter stopped Helen Wilson.

Helen Wilson, fuming, forced a sheepish smile and asked, "How much?"

"Three hundred sixty-eight yuan in total."

"What?" Helen Wilson’s eyes bulged.

"The two you were with ordered freshly ground coffee that costs one hundred sixty-eight yuan."

A dark line crossed Helen Wilson’s forehead, realizing that James Brown, that scoundrel, didn’t even pay the bill and left her to foot it. But the thought of spending over three hundred yuan for two cups of coffee caused Helen Wilson heartache.
