Chapter 128: Chapter 128: A Different Feeling

James Brown and Emily Lopez left the café, both bursting into laughter—they had intentionally set up Helen Wilson.

"Brother-in-law, why does Officer Monaghan seem to have a grudge against you?" Sitting in the car, Emily Lopez asked James with a smile. She felt obliged to scrutinize any beautiful woman who got close to James—it was her responsibility to watch out for her sister since James, her brother-in-law, was becoming more impressive by the day, and she had to ensure no other woman stole him away.

As James drove, he chuckled, "I had a bit of a misunderstanding with her before, so she still thinks I’m a bad guy. No matter how much I try to explain, it’s useless. She always picks on me, so of course, I have to tease her back when I get the chance. But don’t worry—she’s now a deputy station chief, she earns a lot, a few dollars, she can afford it."

Emily tapped her chin lightly and said, "Brother-in-law, you seem to attract a lot of attention. I’ve been out with you for just half a day, and I’ve already seen two beauties entangled with you. I wonder how many more people have issues with you."

"Sis, there’s nothing like that. I’m devoted to your sister, and even if there were other wonderful women, my heart wouldn’t waver. Besides, in my eyes, your sister is absolutely the best."

Emily giggled, "You should save those words for my sister. But brother-in-law, how do you think my performance was just now? Did I look like a CEO?"

"Very much so. I couldn’t even tell if it was you or your sister!"

Emily’s eyes darted around as she said, "Brother-in-law, I have a really fun idea."

"What idea?" James was a bit afraid of this faux sister-in-law’s ideas.

"What if I go to the company and pretend to be my sister for a few days? Wouldn’t that be fun?"

James suddenly frowned, "Would your sister agree to that?"

"Of course, she wouldn’t agree, but if she’s on a business trip or something, I could sneak in and play CEO for a couple of days. She wouldn’t be able to do anything about it."

James was caught between laughter and tears, "You’ve never managed a company. What if you handle something incorrectly?"

"I wouldn’t just sit there; I’m just looking to have some fun. I also want to see what a day in my sister’s life is like. Plus, I have you, brother-in-law. Couldn’t you help me?"

"I’m not qualified to help you—I’m just your sister’s driver, mainly a minor staff member in logistics. I’m clueless about big company affairs."

"Come on, brother-in-law, just help me figure something out for a bit. I just want to get a taste of being a CEO."

"No, no, if your sister finds out, we’d both be in big trouble."

As a qualified faux brother-in-law, James occasionally made things sound severe when speaking about Gina Lopez. That matched the nature of his relationship with Gina.

Emily pouted, but James dared not agree; such an act would surely be discovered by Gina. Besides, handling business as a game was no trivial matter.

They parked the car in the underground parking garage, and James took an unhappy Emily to the supermarket, buying lots of snacks she loved, which finally cheered her up. The two returned home laden with bags.

When they got home, Gina had not returned yet. Seeing it was getting late, James headed straight to the kitchen to start preparing dinner.

"Brother-in-law, how do you like this set of pajamas?"

Emily suddenly came running in, wearing a thin, silver, satin nightgown with just two little straps, revealing much of her creamy shoulders.

She was wearing delicate little slippers, and her dainty, barely graspable feet were mostly exposed.

"Pretty!" James glanced at her but quickly averted his eyes.

"Pretty and you won’t even look? You’re clearly just humoring me." Emily immediately pouted and twisted her body, puffing up her sexy lips.

James turned his head back and said, "A glance is enough to know it’s pretty."

Emily pushed out her chest and said, "Really? I feel like you’re not being sincere."

James felt his blood starting to rush; Emily was already incredibly beautiful, and her appearance in such a nightgown was a significant temptation for any man. And there she was, casually tempting him, making it hard for James to cope.

He sighed and said somewhat helplessly, "Emily, give me a break, will you? Don’t you know how beautiful you are?"

Emily Lopez suddenly giggled, and giggled so hard that she trembled, saying, "Brother-in-law, I really don’t understand how you can stand sleeping with my sister every day without doing anything to her. You don’t have... any problems, right?"

James Brown’s face darkened as he replied, "I’m perfectly healthy, okay? Stop joking around and go call your sister. Ask her when she’s coming back for dinner."

Emily giggled and ran out but came back in the blink of an eye, with a phone in her hand.

"Sis, when are you coming back?"

Gina Lopez was already downstairs and replied, "I’m already downstairs, have you guys come back?"

"We’re back; brother-in-law is cooking. He asked me when you’d be back so he can prepare the meal. Come on up quickly."

Emily relayed Gina’s words back to James, and James shooed Emily out and started cooking.

Gina was extremely tired today, and she had interacted with some people from the main company. The thoughts of these people infuriated her so much that she wanted to beat them up. How could such people do business? No integrity, only thinking about how to scam others. If a company doesn’t have any integrity, who would want to cooperate with them in the future? She felt increasingly disappointed with this place.

Upon receiving a call from Emily, Gina felt suddenly calm. Previously, coming home was just a place for her to sleep, but this time, it felt heartwarming, significantly relieving her exhaustion.

She hurried to the front door, opened it, and was greeted by the delicious smell of food, which brightened her mood even more. It really felt like home, the kind she loved.

"Sis!" Emily came up to her, all smiles.

Seeing Emily in a thin nightgown, Gina immediately frowned, saying, "Why are you dressed like that?"

Emily tugged at her dress hem and replied, "What’s wrong, isn’t my nightgown pretty? I bought it today."

"It’s not about whether it’s pretty or not; how is this appropriate?"

Emily looked puzzled and said, "Isn’t this how I always dress at home? Do I need to dress in business suits like you?"

Gina pulled Emily into the bedroom and closed the door, saying, "But brother-in-law is here, how can you still dress like this?"

"He’s family too," Emily playfully winked at Gina.

Gina glared at her, saying, "Although he is family, you are his sister-in-law. You should be more careful around him."

Emily stared at her sister, then suddenly giggled and said, "Sis, you’re not jealous, are you?"

"Why would I be jealous of you? I’m just reminding you, you and brother-in-law are not related by blood. Dressing like this in front of him, don’t you feel it puts you at a disadvantage? Besides, if I can’t stay with him in the future, he’d just be a stranger, and then you’d be at an even greater disadvantage."

"That makes sense..." Emily nodded, then looked at her sister and said, "Gina, that kind of thinking isn’t good, you know. Brother-in-law is a great guy; how can you think like that? I’m telling you, if you don’t treasure him, loads of women are waiting for him."

"Hmm?" Gina frowned as she looked at Emily.

Emily, in a hushed, mysterious voice, said to Gina, "Sis, today I met two women, both very beautiful. One was a college student who looked at brother-in-law with so much affection, clearly interested in him, and the other was a police lady who also had a good impression of him."

If Helen Wilson heard this, she would be so frustrated that she might spit blood. Emily said this to increase Gina’s sense of crisis, not to slander Helen.

Gina, knowing only about James’ relationship with Sunny Nguyen and unaware of his relations with other women, furrowed her brows, feeling quite dissatisfied with James. Since he came to act as her boyfriend, how could he not handle those other women better, especially letting her sister encounter them? If they were exposed, it would be terrible.

Also, because of Sunny, Gina was quite unhappy that James was still involved with other women, causing her face to darken further.

Seeing Gina’s expression, Emily was startled; she just wanted to give her sister a sense of urgency, but it seemed not only had it failed, but it might also escalate into a war between Gina and James, increasing misunderstandings between them. Quickly, she grinned and said, "But don’t worry, those two women might be interested in him, but brother-in-law has no interest in them at all. I could definitely tell."

Gina finally breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "I still have confidence in your brother-in-law on this matter."

"That’s right; our sister is so beautiful and a boss, he must be devoted to you." Emily put her arm around Gina’s shoulder and sneakily stuck out her tongue, feeling relieved she almost messed up, yet she had no idea that Gina was worrying about something entirely different.
