Chapter 126 Deceptive Guy

Chapter 126: Chapter 126 Deceptive Guy

"What are you guys doing? Fine him already, revoke his driver’s license," Thomas Johnson shouted loudly at that moment.

The lead traffic officer turned his head and snapped, "Quit the nonsense and show me your driver’s licenses."

Thomas Johnson readily pulled out his license, and the other one driving the Porsche did the same. They weren’t worried at all, because their licenses would be returned tomorrow—they had that kind of clout.

"See, this is the consequence of speeding," James Brown shook his head and sighed, then said to the officer, "Comrade policeman, I’ve finished my cigarette, can I go now?"

The officer frowned slightly, nodded, and replied, "Go ahead."

Thomas Johnson was stunned for a moment, then yelled loudly, "Officer, why aren’t you confiscating his license?"

The officer said impatiently, "We don’t need you to teach us how to handle our cases."

Still unsatisfied, Thomas Johnson argued, "Then why are you confiscating our licenses? We were racing, we were speeding, and so were they!"

At this point, the traffic officers were also completely confused about what was going on. From the reactions of Thomas Johnson and his cohort, it was certain that James Brown was speeding, but there was no camera evidence of James speeding, making it impossible to penalize him.

"How we handle our cases is none of your business," the head traffic officer growled impatiently.

Thomas Johnson, with complete disregard for the traffic police, shouted in frustration, "What the hell, you’ve confiscated our licenses, but not his—don’t tell me this guy has a more powerful background than we do, and you’re too scared to confiscate his."

"Shut up," the lead officer bellowed; meanwhile, James Brown had already driven off with Emily Lopez.

This left Thomas Johnson feeling so suffocated he almost wanted to vomit blood. He always thought of himself as a big deal in YODC City, but today he had suffered setback after setback, not getting any advantages.

Inside the car, Emily Lopez was very puzzled as she looked at James Brown and asked, "Brother-in-law, why did they let us go?"

James Brown chuckled and said, "We didn’t speed, so why wouldn’t they let us go?"

"Really? Even if you pretended really well just now, the camera should have caught it, right?"

"Maybe the camera was broken, so they didn’t get anything," he suggested.

"No way, they confiscated ours; how could the camera be broken?"

James Brown knew he couldn’t fool Emily Lopez, so he said, "The camera wasn’t broken, but the first time I passed a camera, I found another car to block me. That way, the camera couldn’t catch me speeding."

"Can you do that?" Emily Lopez’s eyes widened in surprise.

James Brown smiled slightly, "Otherwise, would the traffic police have let us go?"

Emily Lopez tried to imagine how to avoid the cameras, but she couldn’t figure out a way that would work, especially since they were going at speeds around 200 km/h. It seemed like an impossible task to use another car as a cover at such speeds.

But since the camera didn’t catch James Brown speeding, it seemed that was the only possibility—his driving skills must be godlike. That made Emily look at James with even more admiration.

"Brother-in-law, you’re too amazing. My respect for you just hit the ground," Emily Lopez gave James Brown a thumbs up.

James Brown laughed and said, "But you can’t tell your sister about this, otherwise, I’m finished."

Emily Lopez giggled, "As if I’d tell her. If I did, I would get scolded too. This is our little secret."

"Right! Just between the two of us," James Brown chuckled softly, having a secret with his sister-in-law felt pretty nice.

In the afternoon, James Brown took Emily Lopez to a shopping mall in town. Emily came with hardly any luggage, just the clothes on her back, and although she could wear Gina Lopez’s clothes, it was still better to buy her own.

Once at the mall, Emily naturally looped her arm through James Brown’s as they browsed through the women’s clothing section.

Accompanying Emily for a shopping spree wasn’t his first time, and James Brown didn’t dislike shopping like most men. He even offered opinions from time to time, which made Emily thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Sarah Utah had not been in a good mood these past few days. Since the elevator incident, she couldn’t stop thinking about James Brown. Even though James had mentioned he had a girlfriend, Sarah couldn’t get his image out of her head.

At work, she couldn’t help stealing glances at James Brown. Whenever he left to drive for the boss, her spirits would sink, leaving her feeling soulless. This was the first time she had been smitten with a man, and yet he’d outright rejected her, which was a real blow to her.

Today was the weekend, and she had gone out for a walk by herself only to run into a high school classmate, who happened to be Helen Wilson, the police officer. They weren’t in the same class before, they just knew each other, but weren’t close friends. However, after graduating from college and joining the workforce, when they met again, they seemed much closer. Since Helen Wilson was going to buy some clothes, she dragged Sarah Utah along. Sarah, who was feeling bored, agreed to join her.

"Sarah, where do you work?" Helen Wilson asked Sarah Utah.

Sarah replied, "I work in the logistics department at JYPP Region Company."

"JYPP Region Company? I’ve heard of this company’s name before, it seems like someone else works there too?"

"You know our colleague."

"Seems like... Oh, I remember now, there’s someone named James Brown who also works there."

"You know Mr. Brown?" Sarah looked at Helen Wilson with some surprise.

Being a police officer, Helen Wilson immediately sensed something big in Sarah’s reaction. She stared intently at Sarah, whose face suddenly flushed red as she said quietly, "Mr. Brown also works in logistics; he’s my colleague."

From Sarah’s reaction, Helen Wilson deduced that Sarah’s relationship with James Brown was not ordinary. Her own impression of James Brown wasn’t good either. Although he hadn’t done anything to her when she was drunk, she had seen him being ambiguous with several other girls, so she still believed that James Brown was a rather fickle guy.

"Sarah, let me warn you, this guy is really good at deceiving girls. Don’t fall for his tricks."

Hearing Helen Wilson say this, Sarah immediately became somewhat displeased and said, "Helen Wilson, you must be misunderstanding Mr. Brown; he’s a good person."

"He’s a good person?" Helen Wilson was both frustrated and amused, but what she felt more was concern. "Sarah, do you know what I do now?"

"You are..." Sarah looked at Helen Wilson.

"I’m now a police officer, and a community officer at that. James Brown is in my patrol area. I know a bit about him. He has very complex personal relationships, always changing girlfriends, and they are all quite beautiful."

"Ah..." Sarah’s eyes widened in shock. If Helen Wilson weren’t a police officer, she would never believe any bad talk about James Brown, but Helen Wilson’s status made her have to believe it.

"Sarah, stay away from him. We are classmates, would I lie to you?"

"But, but..." Sarah thought of what happened in the elevator that day and shook her head vigorously, saying, "I know he has a girlfriend. He told me, and he even rejected me, so I still think Mr. Brown is a good person."

"He rejected you?" Helen Wilson was surprised and then remembered how James Brown had used her to drive away Sarah Grandy, and how he hadn’t taken advantage of her when she was drunk, which seemed to indicate that sometimes he wasn’t all that bad.

Several thoughts quickly flashed through her mind, and suddenly she said, "I understand now, this guy likes more mature women, and he takes those seriously."

Sarah shook her head once more, saying, "No, that’s not it. Mr. Brown’s girlfriend is a college student."

"Oh, Emma Campbell." Helen Wilson knew the person Sarah was talking about.

"You’ve seen Mr. Brown’s girlfriend? Is she... beautiful?" Sarah looked nervously at Helen Wilson.

Helen Wilson nodded, "She’s a very beautiful and delicate girl, probably similar to you in appearance, and she’s even living with that guy."

"Oh..." A deep sense of loss filled Sarah’s heart. Since James Brown was already living with Emma Campbell, she really had no chance.

At that moment, Helen Wilson suddenly nudged Sarah, saying, "Look, who’s that ahead of us?"

Sarah lifted her head to look in the direction Helen Wilson was pointing, and there at the entrance of a shop, a man and a woman were walking out. The man was James Brown, and the woman was arm-in-arm with him, smiling sweetly as she talked to him.

"You see? Just look at him; this guy has changed to another one already. I really don’t know how he does it. Are these women all crazy? How can they not see his true colors?"

Helen Wilson shook her head repeatedly, utterly despising James Brown for his promiscuity. The women around him were one after another.

But she couldn’t help but admire him; the women around him were not only beautiful but also seemed to have good dispositions, especially Sunny Nguyen and the current woman, who both appeared to be no ordinary people, likely quite wealthy.

Wealthy!

Helen Wilson had a sudden realization, and her expression changed as she thought of a possibility. This guy might be a romance scammer, targeting rich women, cheating both money and emotions, then coldly abandoning them. There were quite a few men like that these days.

The thought ignited Helen Wilson’s sense of justice, "James Brown, you bastard, I will expose you, catch you, and make sure you can’t deceive any more women."
