Chapter 93: Not So Pleased

"Tell me!" Liam loomed over her.

There was another knock at the door.

"Well, it was Aragorn. Aragorn, son of Arathorn, and the true heir to the throne of Gondor was my first crush. His beard, that ruffian look, the macho way he swung his sword, his long dark hair~" she grinned seeing his nose flaring. "I even wanted Arwen dead so that I can have Aragorn for myself. Sadly she didn’t die... Do you remember, Fizzy? Whenever we watched The Lord of the Rings, I mentioned~"

*Bang*

She giggled as Liam left the room angrily. She didn’t know what he expected her to say.

"Whoa, what happened?" Derick entered softly closing the door.

"Derick!" Rory ran to him and hugged him around his neck. "How are you?"

"I’m fine," he grabbed her shoulders and looked at her from top to bottom. He then squinted his eyes.

"You got back together?" Derick asked, his eyes fixed on the obvious mark on her neck.

"We were always together," she shrugged and walked to the bed.

"Rory..." He cleared his throat. "You told me that he asked for a divorce. He left you alone all through your pregnancy and was busy letting everyone believe that he was another woman’s boyfriend. And now, he has called it off?"

"Well, what do you think?" She asked, pointing at the other bed, asking him to sit.

"I’d rather not. This room smells like...sex..." Derick’s eyes got fixed on the bed and disgust flashed on his face for a moment.

"Suit yourself," Rory shrugged. She was so happy to meet Derick and if this is going to be his attitude then she was not going to fuzz up about it.

She sat on the bed crossing her legs and Derick let out a sigh. He sat on the small stool in the corner.

"About the divorce-"

"What about it?" Rory interjected him. She was not impressed and she raised her voice.

"Have you thought about it, Rory? He wanted to divorce you and broke your heart. But now, he wants not to divorce and you’re agreeing? Can’t you see how he is manipulating you?"

"Are you not happy, Derick? Are you having cold feet? Are you talking to your ex? Does she want to weasel her way back into your well-connected, wealthy family?" Rory smirked.

She loves Derick, but he can get annoying.

Derick glared at her and fisted his hands. "It’s not about me, Rory," he fisted and released his hands to calm himself. "It’s about your toxic relationship with~"

"Toxic?" Rory scoffed. "You are THE expert in judging toxic relationships, I should listen to you, right?"

"Come on, now...Rory... I am speaking because I care for you. He’s not good for you. I love him, trust me. But he is... I am saying this for both of your sake," Derick spoke in a soothing tone.

"What’s your problem?" Rory furrowed her brows.

If it was someone else in front of her saying the same words as Derick, she would have poured the jug of water on their head and then banged their head with the stainless steel jug.

But this is Derick. The person she loves a lot! And so she held back.

"When did you change your mind, huh, Derick? Your tone was entirely different when you talked to Liam. You wanted him to understand me and even talked about OUR secret with him! And you come here to ask me to go through with the divorce? Can you see the conflict here, huh?"

"He..." Derick looked stunned. "Rory, I..." He let out a sigh. "I can see why you are angry at me. But I did it for a reason. Okay, you know what? It was wrong of me to tell him your secret. I apologize. But please, listen to me when I~"

" I got what I wanted, Derick. I wanted not to divorce him and I convinced him. There...that’s it." Rory glared at Derick.

"You wanted it? Can you see how pathetic it is? As if you are someone from the nineteenth century who won’t survive without her husband..." He stopped as she didn’t stop glaring at him.

He raised his hands and chuckled. "So you got what you wanted as always, huh?" He spoke in a jovial tone.

Rory scoffed and turned her head.

"Are you happy? There won’t be another happier person on this planet than me when I know that you are happy, Rory. The last time we spoke, you resented him. It was just four months ago and... I am just looking out for you. I take it as my duty to look after you," Derick’s voice turned somber.

Rory, with a pout, turned and looked at him. "Of course, I know that you love me, Derick. And... I am happy, Derick. You should know that Fitzwilliam and Ellie are my happiness."

She smiled as she said that.

Derick said nothing and stared at her silently.

"I am going to tell everyone why you divorced your ex. You couldn’t keep my secret and I won’t keep yours. By the way, does your fiancee know everything about your divorce? Should I have a "talk" with her?" She raised her eyebrows and smirked evilly.

Derick chewed on his tongue and Rory saw perspiration forming on his forehead. He fisted his hands.

"And what’s that on your boots? Did you go for a walk in the woods this morning?" She smiled widely seeing that she is getting on his nerves.

She loved to tease him.

Derick clenched his jaws searching for his retort. His phone rang with notifications and he pulled out his phone to distract himself.

Rory noticed the long crack running along his phone screen.

What a clumsy fool! Looks like anyone can be an FBI agent these days...

He was checking his messages and was typing something. Rory got up and picked up an apple from the fruit basket and started to peel it.

"The ring you lost... It was your engagement ring?" Derick asked.

Rory turned at him immediately. "Yes! Have they found it?"

"No," Derick shook his head. "And Liam... He keeps his knife with him all the time?"

"Yes. You know it. It was Grandpa Roberts who gifted him the SAK first and ever since then he always carried it with him."

"And where did he lose the SAK grandpa gifted?" Derick sat crossing his legs.

Rory saw the lack of familiarity in Derick’s face. "Who am I talking to?" She asked.

"Come on, Rory. Answer me," he smiled. But his smile did not reach his eyes.

"I don’t recall," Rory said with a smile.

If he is going professional with her, she would go formal with him too.

"The woman you recently had a tiff with... She was missing for a couple of days. Did he tell you about that?" Derick asked.

"Who? Allison?" Rory could sense that she was going to hear something terrible.

"Yes, Allison Stewart... They’ve found a body, Rory... Cut to pieces and dropped all over...in different trash cans..." He showed her his phone.

Rory walked closer.

She gasped seeing the images.

Allison?
