Chapter 94: Return of an Old Enemy

Could this be Allison?

"There is no..." Rory stuttered. "The head..." Her fingers trembled as she pointed at her head. Derrick calmly looked at her.

"There is no head in these pictures," she said after taking a deep breath. "And her hands... Are the nails plucked out?"

She walked away not wanting to see those pictures. She used to bug Derick to show her crime scene photos but he would refuse her. And now that he showed her, all she wanted to do was puke her stomach out.

"They haven’t found the head yet," Derick said. "And yes, the woman’s fingernails were plucked out using a plier. And her torso has a lot of laceration marks as if she was tied up and~ "

"Alright, that’s enough!" Rory covered her mouth with her fingers. She didn’t want to hear more. She looked through the window. She saw the garden in the distance and Liam was walking toward a man wearing an Armani suit.

Is that Burke? Oh, yeah! It is him! And... Is he shorter than Fizzy? Wasn’t he very tall back then?

Her lips curved seeing Liam talking to Burke. Talking? He probably was bragging!

Ellie, like usual, tried to jump to the new acquaintance but Liam struggled to keep her from getting to Burke.

What a silly guy.!

"I’m..." Derick stood up and walked to her. "I’m concerned for you, Rory." He placed his hand on her shoulder to make her attention turn to him.

Rory looked at Derick. "Did they check all the bars for Allison? She probably was~"

"They are running the DNA tests and the confirmation would be announced within a day or two. I received news that~"

He was intercepted by the knock on the door. Rory walked to the door and opened it. She heard Derick sighing loudly but his despondent was overcome by the cheery voice of a woman.

"Aurora Roberts! How are you?"

Entered a blonde with a certain lisp to her words. She was wearing a floral dress to compliment the spring probably from a top brand, a top-brand purse, and shoes. And the oddest thing she was holding was a bouquet of peonies.

"Jennifer!" Rory mirrored the same enthusiasm the visitor did. "Wow! These flowers are so pretty...Are they for me?" She tried to get the bouquet but Jennifer held it close.

"No, my HUSBAND gave it to me for..." She bowed her head and placed her hand carefully on her belly.

"We’re pregnant!" She said with a happy squeal. She fisted her hands and did a little dance.

"Oh! Congratulations!" Rory smiled.

"Yeah, I was here for the checkup when I learned that you were admitted here I wanted to visit you," she smiled like a Stepford wife.

"Yeah, thanks, I guess..." Rory turned and walked in. Her lips curved to a smirk as she looked at Derick.

Of course, she is here to brag!

Derick looked at her with a pleading expression. Without even a word, Rory understood that Derick wants her to act mature.

I’ll try, Derick... I’ll try. But this is the woman who bullied me in the past!

"Oh!" Jennifer paused seeing Derick leaning in the corner of the room. "I didn’t know you were..." Her eyes ended up on Rory’s neck and then on Derick.

"...with someone... I thought..." Jennifer cleared her throat and acted flustered as if she was interrupting something... Something scandalous.

Rory pressed her lips and watched Jennifer keenly. She knew she would provoke her. And until now she is not losing track.

Right now, she is insinuating that I was doing "something" with Derick, isn’t she? Heh!

"He’s getting married, I heard, and you..." Jennifer waved her hands and patted her cheeks. "I don’t judge... I always knew that you..." She looked at Rory.

"I am so so sorry, Aurora. I heard about your divorce and..." She held her hand.

"Oh, dear!" Derick whispered rubbing his forehead. He knew right now Rory is very angry. He too is very angry with that useless fool who thinks that something happened here.

But he worried what Rory might do.

Who knows, she might set that blonde’s hair on fire once more. And that cannot happen although the blonde wants to provoke

"Aurora, you have to go to the lab to get the results." He tried to distract her.

"Yes, Derick," Rory smiled so gently. Derick hoped that he was wrong and Rory was not mad.

"Divorce? Whose divorce? Derick’s? Isn’t that old news? He is getting married in a couple of weeks. Derick, you didnt invite her?" Rory looked at Derick and he shrugged.

"We invited our close family. Hope you don’t mind." He smiled politely at Jennifer.

"Oh, oh... I don’t mind, actually. I..." She stuttered as she didnt knows what to say more.

Derick was happy Rory used her great ability to throw confusion in the face of an enemy to get the upper hand. It is better.

Honestly, anything else is better than setting someone’s hair on fire.

"Oh, Jennifer... I like your hairstyle..." Rory touched Jennifer’s hair. Jennifer winced unconsciously and took a step back.

Rory didnt mind her frightened reaction and continued. "Which salon do you visit? Gosh! It’s so smooth and silky..."

Please don’t ... please don’t mention her hair, Rory...

Derick prayed in his heart. But what Rory said next made him grunt.

"I didn’t know burnt hair would grow back! It’s like it never happened!" Rory was awed.

Jennifer gritted her teeth. "You haven’t changed a bit, Rory. I thought your pet boy leaving you after having a child with you would change you. But...heh! Some people are meant for perdition!"

"Pet boy?" Rory smirked. "Who? Are you talking about Fitzwilliam? Haven’t you heard that he has become a multi-millionaire these days? And who told you that he left me? I’m not foolish! Why would I let him leave me?"

"You..." Jennifer gritted her teeth. "Aren’t you ashamed of yourself to stay with a man for his money?"

"Ashamed?" Rory scoffed. "Isn’t that what you are doing too..? Am I wrong to predict that all your clothes are purchased from your husband’s money? Because last I checked, you are not working!"

"Yeah, my husband loves me and he provides for me. But you..." Jennifer scoffed. "Look at you... You’re wearing thrift store clothes and slippers you got from the departmental store. You know what, Aurora... You deserve every bad thing happening to you," Jennifer scoffed and turned to leave.

"What bad thing?" Rory shouted and walked out of the room. Derick held her back. But Rory shouted.

"My husband is not the one slapping the nurses’ back, Mrs. Burke!"

"What an idiot!" Rory mumbled and closed the door.

Derick looked at her. "Really? You are going to lie to her that her husband is cheating on her?"

"What? Don’t judge me, Derick! It’s not like she is not going to spread the rumors that we..." Her face twisted with disgust as she didnt wants to think about it.

"I hope that sour idiot does not create a fuzz..."

She mumbled under her breath.

"You’re so...stupid, Rory," Derick’s face was judgemental. "Why can’t you be a lite patient and let her have her moment? You are richer than her. You are good-looking than her and you have the better man! You need friends, Rory. How many friends do you have? You can’t stick to Liam all the time thinking that~"

"I do have the better man, don’t I?" Rory didnt want to hear his lecture. He always wants to lecture until her ear bleeds.

She then looked at her clothes. She does wear cheap clothes. "Where can I get the latest fashion around here, Derick?" She asked. "Maybe I SHOULD stay for your wedding to show everyone how happy I am with ~"

"Wait! You were planning on not attending my wedding?" Derick’s menacing voice interjected her rant.

"Well... I..." Rory searched for excuses.

"Rory!" Derick raised his brows and cocked his head. She heard him gnashing his teeth and Rory’s legs trembled.

"Tell me... Are you not here for me?" He asked.

"Wait... Calm down, Derick..." Rory said with a forced smile. "I came here for my grandmother and... Look! I didn’t want to attend my ex-husband’s cousin’s wedding, okay?" She wetted her lips seeing his unimpressed looks.

"So, I am just your cousin-in-law and nothing more?" He staggered a bit. "My fiancee was planning on asking you to be her bridesmaid and you’re telling me that..."

"Bridesmaid? She never asked me! I don’t know her and~"

"Shut up! Don’t say a word more. You are going to stay in our home until I get married and you will be a bridesmaid." He said, pointing his finger at her.

"You cannot decide the bridesmaids, Derick!" Rory really didn’t find it to be a good idea.

"Stay in the hospital for a couple more days, " he said after reading a couple more messages on his phone. "And make sure you keep Liam in your line of sight all the time. You are going to get a lot of phone calls..."

He said with a firm tone and left the room. Rory thought he was talking about getting phone calls from his fiancee about the bridesmaid dresses and other arrangements.

But she didn’t know at that time that the phone call would be about an entirely different matter. And that phone call would cause so much devastation in her life.
