The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 194: An Ungrateful Act
Chapter 194: An Ungrateful Act
Days passed. Rory was adjusted to the life of a stay-at-home mom. She loved it if she’s been honest.
She used coupons, and codes and did everything a normal middle-class person would do to save money. And she was pretty proud of it. She even had a support group of young mothers who would inform her of any deals in the local shops.
She was not bored being alone in the house. Ellie was always a darling, and as she grew up she only calmed down rather than getting naughty. That was surprising considering that both of her parents didn’t make it easy for their parents to raise them.
How did she turn out to be an angel?
Liam started going out a lot. He was meeting a lot of investors. He had a similar plan as before. But after he had started the company, a lot of them did the same "Men’s only" online businesses so the market has been pretty much saturated.
He still was figuring out what to do next.
Not minding Liam’s protests, she started using her card to buy groceries. She was not touching her savings. Just the money she gets from the cafe was more than enough for their little family’s needs as she found ways to be frugal.
Her grandmother contacted her. Well, Mrs. Delport contacted her on behalf of her grandmother, offering her fifty grand a month. She asked her what’s the catch. Mrs. Delport sounded hurt she asked that and told her that she doesn’t have to do anything and that everything her grandmother owns is hers to take.
Rory could only laugh. She does not need more money. She already has money. She asked them to leave her alone.
She does not want fancy dinners or designer clothes. She doesn’t have to have the latest design purses and shoes. She never liked to be "vogue" or whatever. She loved the simplicity of her regular life.
If only there could be stars and the moon at night, her life would be perfect.
Well, not really. She still has to tackle a big issue.
Speaking of Liam, he wanted to splurge on new restaurants opening up in the neighborhood for dates, or he would want to visit the stores because it is open, and he liked to spend. Spend on her.
It was not wrong of him. He was just too excited to have her with him and he wants to show her that he loves her. Partly, it was her fault. In the past, she was the one who made it a big issue that he was not spending money on her.
But that was not necessary now.
She knows his feelings and she has changed her views.
Money was an issue, and so was this other thing. There were whispers, and she often finds herself ambushed by reporters, those who want to write a true crime book, those who want to make documentaries, movies, and some people who are plainly curious.
She was receiving a lot of calls from the top agents of Hollywood asking for an interview. And many ghost writers contacted her to give a "voice" to her trauma. They were all so deeply understanding of her, and yet they wanted to know every detail of what happened in the house.
Apparently, talking halves the worries.
Right, she thought, sarcastically. Of course, they all are contacting her for her well-being.
She knew the real reason. Lennon Roberts is the worst serial killer in recent history and probably the decade. His arrest brought out so much and this is probably the story of the year and maybe the story of the decade. People wanted to make money out of it. And they wanted her.
She was literally sitting on making millions of dollars. All she had to do was talk.
But, meh... she is not in need of money. Neither is she narcissistic to have everyone talk about her. She was hoping everyone moves on from this. The news channels are still talking about it and it seems like it will never end.
Lennon was singing like a bird about his deeds; bodies are still getting unearthed from the woods. So, yeah, it was not over. Not yet.
But there never was an issue with her safety as she had observed. Otherwise, she won’t be able to go out for her grocery runs.
She had a feeling that the government won’t spend the tax money of the public on her safety. But her grandmother would. Those men who always kept a watchful eye on her looked like private bodyguards.
She wouldn’t lie. It gave her security knowing that there are people actively looking out for her.
As for spending her own money... She pulled a dirty trick for Liam to agree. She didn’t know why it has to be an issue between them. They are a family, and it does not matter who spends the money. In the end, they are the ones getting benefitted. So, why bother?
But maybe Liam was so traumatized by her past tantrums, he didn’t agree. In the end, he had to agree because the only reason she left home was for grocery runs and she only brought her card every time she left the house.
That night, Liam came home late. He was slightly drunk. She could smell the alcohol on him as she removed his blazer. He must have met with a potential investor.
"Your daughter tried to crawl today. Look..." Rory scrolled down her phone and showed him the video of her rolling down to the floor as she attempted to get on her knees from a sitting position.
"Look at her fall..." she couldn’t stop her laugh. Their daughter is so adorable when she is silly too.
She is so so very cute.
Liam smiled seeing the video. But more than that, Rory addressing Ellie as ’his daughter’ whenever she does something silly made him happier.
"Where is she?" he looked around.
"She didn’t take her noon nap. She was very fuzzy and I put her to bed. She didn’t even eat dinner properly..." Rory complained and walked in.
Liam followed her rubbing his chest. Look at him walking inside his house talking like a normal dad would... He was blissful.
"Do you want dinner or..."
"Did you eat?" he walked to her and rubbed her back. He wanted to kiss her, but he pulled himself back.
Rory shook her head. "I was waiting for you. You didn’t answer your phone and I figured you were in some meeting... If you already had dinner, I’ll finish mine and pack it~"
"I’ll take a shower and... I cannot miss the dinner my wife cooked for me," he interrupted her.
"Go!" Rory pushed him. She liked to see the smile on his face. But he must be dealing with something serious. His eyes were tired.
The dinner table was quiet except for the sound of the cutleries. Rory waited for him to tell him about his day. It was surprising that he started to talk about his day to her over dinner.
She loved this change in him. She could see that he is putting on effort into their relationship. He is working hard to figure out their future. He is treasuring her and this little family.
She wanted to change too.
"Sidney’s lawyers met with me today," Liam said stuffing in the chicken breast.
"Sidney’s?" she couldn’t understand why Sidney’s lawyer would want with Liam. "What did they want?"
"They want to sue me," Liam said and Rory scoffed.
"Sue you? For what?" she knitted her brows.
"For my "father’s" sin, she wants to sue me for support and another bunch of stuff that I didn’t mind listening to," he said. "She is saying that I always knew that he was my father and so I should pay for my sis- Skyla and she wants half of everything I earned by my company because it was all that guy’s investment... "
Rory wanted to punch a hole in the wall. After Lennon’s arrest, his assets were frozen leaving Sidney with nothing.
But how could she try and take money from Liam? He too is a victim of that man she married!
And how could she? She would be dead if I didn’t save her! That b*tch!
"And...?" she looked at Liam. He was gulping and picking on the food. She knew there is more to it. "Did she give a ballpark on how much she wants?" she asked.
Liam let out a sigh. "Fifty million."
"Pfft!" Rory let out a sigh. "How does she know the amount I have?" She smirked. That nasty woman found out the money she has and wants it for herself. What an ungrateful witch!
"I should have left that b*tch to die there..."
Rory looked at him. It appeared that there was more. "Is she threatening to talk to those vultures hanging around for materials? A book deal? Movie deal... stuff like that? She wants 50 mil to keep her silence?" she asked.
Liam looked at her. He was wondering if he should pay and settle with Sidney. Rory will not be happy if there was an official public account of what happened in that house. He was already receiving a lot of calls from "investors", but they all wanted to have a talk with his wife. He had to reject their offers.
And now, that woman ...
He fisted his hands.
