Chapter 193: A Change For The Better

Liam froze when she hugged him on her own. He had been waiting for this to happen for months and yet when it was happening, he didn’t know how to respond.

He was so worried and was thinking the entire day sitting in a cafe wondering how he should break it to her that he took those tests against her wishes. She is already in a bad place, and he feared if she would get worse if she learns that her wishes were not respected.

But his father advised him to take the test. Whether it is good or bad, it would be the best for everyone involved. Especially for the baby.

He never feared the results. His gut instincts told him that Ellie is his child. And there was assurance from Mrs. Delport. She was sure and so was he.

This test... He did it just to confirm his conviction.

He even thought that it won’t be necessary to tell her the truth. She was taking care of the baby a lot these days. And the smile on her face, although it was not the same as before, still contained love for her child.

It was a tough decision for him to make.

And in the end, he decided to show her the report to get closer to her. IT was good that she is getting healed and started to love her child as she used to.

But she is not looking at him. She is never looking at him the way she looked at him before. At times, when she smiles, she would see the smile she had for him when they were in school--when they were just friends.

He thought that was enough. After the days spent in the hospital that almost drained all his hope, he thought that being friends with her was a great step forward.

He thought about bringing up the topic of their relationship status with her. But he was afraid. What if she insists that she wants the divorce? What if she just wants to be friends with him?

Yes, he thought that being friends with her was enough for a brief time. But no, he dreaded that life. He does not want to be friends with her. He never wanted to be just friends with her!

Not then, not now, not ever.

She is his wife whom she married after pulling a lot of strings. And she fell in love with him by the blessings of heaven. He will never lose her for any reason.

And so, he decided to show her the results to convey a point. He thought that this doubt in her heart is keeping her from him. He never once thought that she hates him because of who his birth father is.

On the contrary, it would be surprising if what Lennon did, knowing who she is, did not f*ck her up.

But what step should he take? Which way would lead him to her heart?

He could not figure that out alone. His family, of them, told him different ideas. They all spoke out of love for him and kept the old Rory in mind.

But he knew. The Rory everyone knew is not there anymore. She is someone else. And she still hasn’t figured out who she is.

She walked through fire and blood and survived. She is not going to be the same as before. He had that understanding.

He had a lot on his plate. And he perfectly understood the troubles Frank would have gone through to raise him alone. With a small baby, and an ill wife at home, he had to provide for his family too. How many problems did he face?

It’s been just short of a couple of months since Rory is not being herself. Their baby is small and yet she is not that small. She has grown a bit. And still, he couldn’t manage a thing. Yet, Frank did!

He thanked his dad from the bottom of his heart when he talked to him. And once again, he felt ashamed for the way he treated Frank for the most part of his life.

His company is far gone. There is not much left of his company as it was all burnt away. Maybe an investor might help, but no one with a tad bit of commonsense would get to him with a ten-foot pole.

All thanks to that monster!

Mrs. Delport offered support. But he didn’t want to get anything from her. He’d beg his father for money before he gets Mrs. Delport’s support.

Rory will leave him with no second thoughts.

She is very angry at her family. She is believing that her family didn’t protect her. Although he leaned towards trusting Mrs. Delport when she said that no one was allowed to touch Rory, he decided to stand by Rory’s side and keep away from her family for the time being.

He found it helpful talking to a therapist. Rory does not know that. He knew she will blame herself for him going to therapy. And she will feel worse than she already does. He will tell her when the time is right.

It was hard for him to open up at first. It never was his character to voice his emotions. That had caused a lot of problems and misunderstandings in his life. He wanted to change that.

He still couldn’t open up about everything. But he recently joined a boxing gym. That helps a lot more than therapy to let out the rage in his heart.

And yes, his savings are depleting rapidly. He didn’t know having a child is going to cost that much. Not to mention the costs of therapy and medical bills, electricity bills, and every other grown-up bill to take care of.

He should find a way.

With her in his arms, he smiled. He was glad that his decision to show her the reports to mend their relationship is working as he intended.

She is grateful!

Maybe she was scared to know what the results would show. That’s why she didn’t want those tests to be done. But now, nothing else is standing between them and happiness.

And wow... her scent... he missed her scent so much...

He hugged her tightly and buried his face in her hair. He loved her hair. She hates anyone talking about or touching her hair. But he never had any restrictions. Her hair always smelled so nice even if it was greasy. He loved the scent of her hair.

It’s erotic.

Without knowing, he was already kissing her hair and her neck. He pulled up her dress, grabbed her waist, and pulled her to sit on his lap.

He wanted her. He never was away from her this long when they were living under the same roof. Well, they were in the past, but that was not the point.

And as she thanked him, he thought that his wish for their past to return was granted. He thought that she is getting closer to him just like before.

He wanted her.

"Fizzy..."

He stopped hearing her calling him. He immediately pulled his hands away. He had let his lower body take control. That could be the biggest blunder he could make.

"I’ll have these with me..." Rory stood straight picking up the envelope.

"Yeah," he smiled letting out a sigh. It looked like she was not discomforted by his lack of self-control.

He picked up the baby and played with her vowing not to do that mistake again. He wants her. But he should wait until she wants him back.

Otherwise, there is no difference between him and that guy.

She used to be so averse to the thought of getting closer to him. And now that he is seeing these changes in her, he hoped that she would get much closer to him on her own, at her own pace. He will wait until then.

-----

Rory walked out of the living room to her room. Yeah, her room. She was sleeping in one of the guest bedrooms. Well, she wanted to sleep there when she got to this house. Her things are all there, but she mostly slept on Liam’s bed because she would be scared to sleep alone.

She knew she was doing him a disfavor. But Liam assured her that it is not wrong in any way. Just because they are married doesn’t mean that they should sleep together in the biblical sense. They can sleep together just like friends would.

She was relieved when they talked about it the week she came here. She did not want to sleep with him. WEll, not never. Just for now.

She tried. She tried to focus her mind to do what they used to do all the time and what they loved to do together.

But whenever his horny eyes ended up on her, she would remember another set of horny eyes that gave her nightmares.

She was so guilty. Liam wants her and she wanted to be with him too. But she was tired of fighting these thoughts in her head.

And even then, she still knew that it won’t be married if she can’t even kiss him and sleep with him. He cannot tie her up with him just because he loves her.

It is not fair.

She needs to get better. Or she should let him go.

It is the fair thing to do.

Although, judging by her reaction earlier thinking that he wanted divorce... she can say that she does not want to leave him.

But still, she has to be fair.

She will have to find a way to get better.
