Chapter 192: A Possible Change

Chapter 192: A Possible Change

A month after Rory moved to Liam’s apartment, Rory’s days went almost identically. She woke up, cooked, cleaned, did laundry, would seriously think if she should study, and, in the end, decide not to, took all her medicines on time, and she cooked dinner. At times, she started taking care of Ellie when Liam went out.

It happened after an unexpected visit from an old friend.

Mia came to visit once a couple of weeks back. Liam was not home. that was the first time he left Ellie in her charge after she got discharged from the hospital. She found that she is not that stressed being alone with Ellie. And she was thankful for Mia’s presence.

She wondered if Liam sent Mia for that reason. She was happy that he thinks of her at every step.

Rory was happy to see her, and she thanked Mia and her mother for taking care of Ellie. Mia carefully avoided talking about anything serious and they just discussed the cafe. When Mia joked that Mr. Giles had found his victim number three, Rory could laugh along.

It was then they noticed it! Ellie was sitting on her playmat by herself. And she was staring at them with a smile.

Rory could not contain her joy. Of all the times Ellie could have done this milestone achievement, she chose to do it when she was watching her.

She ran and picked her baby up and hugged her. It was like the old days--She, her baby and Mia.

She didn’t let go of Ellie after that. But Mia left and Liam came back. And off went that sparkly feeling in her heart.

But she was feeling much better. She could take care of Ellie, feed her, bathe her and read to her a lot. Her daughter cannot be illiterate. She should learn everything. Ellie, like always, loved her mother’s stories and even the general knowledge tidbits her mother taught her.

Liam didn’t send anyone else to accompany her after that. He started to get busy these days. And she was glad he got busy. That means he is getting an opportunity to do something. She didn’t want him to stay home and end up like her. That would be terrible.

That day she was folding laundry sitting by the big window. She’s grown used to that big window. But it induced terror in her heart at night. The city was void of any color and those blinking lights of aircraft and helicopters made her mood sour.

She couldn’t even see a single star and at times even the moon would become invisible in the thick smog of the city.

She tried going for walks, but that didn’t go well. The burnt air cut her lungs and she felt sick walking in the crowd of people wearing expensive perfumes and colognes.

She craved the smell of freshly cut grass and the fragrance of wildflowers. She missed the scent of heathers and thistles.

And colors... The glens would be covered in beautiful spectrums of yellow, orange, and red autumn colors. Some insistent leaves would still be green as it is just the start of autumn.

Going on walks only made her depressed and so she quit going for a walk outside. She used the home gym.

And she was gaining weight. She had gained a couple of pounds in the past month and the doctor congratulated her. So, that was good, she supposed.

She fell into the habit of having her phone with her all the time. She had made a covenant of sorts with a few of the agents to inform her immediately no matter what the time was when Lennon escapes.

She was scared to face him again.

She seriously contemplated leaving this house. But it would be very ungrateful of her to leave Liam when he is just starting to build a new business.

Her therapist told her that she could take a little vacation somewhere she likes to go and maybe that will help her. But she knew that would be selfish of her.

She can hold on. Just like she is getting used to her daughter again, she can get used to Liam too. She will talk to him about the truths of that day. And she can hope that he still wants her.

But she was scared. That thought of losing him forever rusted her will. She wanted not to lose him and, in that struggle, without knowing she was already pushing him away from her, building walls between him and her.

Ellie woke up after her afternoon nap and like a little lily, she sprung up immediately. Rory placed the clothes down and got to Ellie.

"What do you want? Are you hungry?" she picked her up.

Ellie with a smile touched her nose with her stubby fingers.

"Oww...Look at that white on your gums... Your little teeth are sprouting out... How wonderful!" she pressed her face in her chest making the baby giggle.

She has learned to giggle. And she giggled a lot. That soothing sound calmed her. Well, unless Liam was around. When he was there, she...

Her heart pounded hearing the door unlock. She placed Ellie on the floor to play with her toys and went to open the door. Liam had returned.

"I need to talk to you," he said shoving a big file in her hand.

She only got panicked. "I...I haven’t started dinner yet. I’ll go..." she gulped.

"It’s nothing to be scared of..." Liam sighed. She had long stopped looking at his eyes that she used to love so much. Holding her hand, he led her to the dining table.

"Open it," he said.

But she was hesitant. She was the one who asked for the divorce and yet she was not sure about that right now. She started getting along with her daughter now. It was hard. It still is hard at times. But she is trying her best.

The doctor reduced the dosage of her "happy pills". So that means that she is getting better, right? She sometimes feels better and at times would feel like sh*t, but if the doctors are saying that she is better, she is better, right?

She can try her best for Liam too. She did not want to lose him. She loved him so much and for a reason. None of them did wrong and yet... Well, she was the one who did wrong, but...

She wanted a chance.

She opened the tick document that was reminding her of a similar old memory she had. Her hands were shaking and she tried to find excuses for not doing it right now.

Liam held her hand. "I know you said you don’t want to...Umm... I know you are stubborn, and you don’t change your decision once you made up your mind. And I~"

"I don’t want the divorce, okay... I was not in a good mental state when I asked for a divorce. You cannot divorce me for that. Also, if you want to divorce me, I will sue you to oblivion taking all of your assets and leaving you homeless and..." She paused as Liam started laughing.

He laughed slapping the table and Ellie almost cried out of fright. He laughed holding his abdomen while Rory looked at him perplexed.

He laughed until he cried. Like really cried with snot dripping from his nose...

"Fizzy, I..." Rory didn’t know what to say.

"No, no..." Liam looked at her and this time he smiled. She had the courage to look into his eyes when he said, "Honey, I am not divorcing you. I love you."

"Oh?" she said leaning at the backrest. She was a little embarrassed. But more than that, she was relieved.

"This..." he got the file and opened it. "This is the paternity test for Ellie. Ellie, as I always knew, is my daughter. Look..." he opened the page and pointed at the result. "See... 99.9%... She is my daughter, Rory. She is our daughter..."

Rory’s heart almost stopped beating hearing that. This is proof right there. She might have told them that she doesn’t believe those test results, but she did right this instant. When Liam is insisting that she is their baby, then she should be, right?

And 99.9%? That is a perfect result. There can’t be any doubt about this anymore.

"See, I also did the ancestry test for her in case you don’t believe me... See, this is my ancestry result that traces me to your homeland and... to his homeland too...We always wondered why I had part of Irish in me, right? and... Vikings, that was from my mother’s side. And yours too... Scottish and English descent... And now, look at Ellie’s... Look at her percentiles... Can’t you see? She is mine... I told you. She is mine. I never doubted it but you did! And..."

Rory stood up and hugged him.

"I know... I know you were right...." she hugged him. "And thank you for doing this...Thanks, Fizzy..."
