The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 191: A Tough Decision
Chapter 191: A Tough Decision
As she didn’t have the guts to talk about that day to Liam, she started talking to the therapist about it. She didn’t open up her heart to the therapist either.
She wanted Liam to hear it from her.
Meanwhile, the interrogation of Lennon continued. He was kept in a high-security prison and grilled for information. And a lot of corruption was getting exposed in the meantime. Most of the accused were from the opposite party, so the ruling party didn’t have any qualms about investigating them further.
A commission was formed to investigate the corruption that had seeped deeply into the very fabric of the government engine. And of course, only a very few knew that a very powerful force was behind exposing the corruption.
Rory once took a glance at all the headlines about Lennon’s case. He was very close to overtaking Ted Bundy in the number of victims department. He was just short of a very few. For someone of high status like Lennon to hide in plain sight had brought the surprise some.
Of course, some believed Lennon was wrongly accused. Many comments in support of Lennon were made by women who fell for Lennon’s charm, still believing that he does not have the "looks" of a serial killer. Some even left thirst comments saying that he can kill them any time he wants to, and they’d be happy to die looking at that sexy face and the sorts.
Rory could only sigh. Charm and beauty... It’s very tricky. Vain people cannot see past that and end up in danger.
She didn’t want to know about Lennon’s confessions. The agent in charge asked her if she wants a transcript of his confessions, but she refused. Her therapist asked her to stay away from that and she decided to listen.
She was trying, like really really trying to get out of those dark thoughts that rotted her mind. But she couldn’t. When talking to the therapist, she asked her what used to be her dream.
Rory scoffed at her ambition to become a lawyer. After having this small encounter with the law enforcement agencies, she didn’t have the fortitude to get anywhere near them in the future.
But what else can she do? She had no idea.
Liam too tried his best. He went along with all her wishes even though she found some atrocious retrospectively. If she wanted pancakes for dinner, he brought them for her.
That night, he joked that she was like a pregnant woman with her cravings. She couldn’t laugh with him. And that made him sad, and he thought that he said something wrong. But he was not wrong. She didn’t know she couldn’t laugh.
She didn’t have the pain in her body anymore. And she decided to leave the hospital. She wanted to pay her bill and was making arrangements for it asking around how much the bill is going to be. They had unfrozen her accounts. And she had learned that the few investments in the stock market she made a very long time ago (and forgot about it) had made great profits.
She almost had fifty million dollars to her name. That was enough for her to lead a comfortable life in the future.
But Liam for whatever reason insisted that he will take care of it all. his accounts were unfrozen too. But his company had taken a great hit with the arrest of Lennon. Lennon was a snake and he tied Liam’s company with his company in a very odd contract. She didn’t know why Liam agreed to even sign that contract.
Yeah, he trusted him that much... And he was betrayed by the one he trusted. He should be suffering too.
Liam didn’t have much to his name. He had to file for bankruptcy. His employees were not happy. But he was in a state where he couldn’t do much.
But she didn’t want to force him to change his mind because she knew his pride would take a hit if she insisted that she pays. It is stupid for him to pay when she had money, but she didn’t want to hurt his feelings more than she is already doing.
But she had no idea how he is going to pay her bills.
And he was very excited to take her to his place. He couldn’t stop smiling and smirking. She loved to see him that way. She liked to see him happy.
His apartment, well, it was a penthouse suite that was all paid for and was in his name. So that escaped. At least he had a house that is worth nine million dollars. He can sell it if he wants to, and they can move somewhere cheaper.
"You can change it however you want to, Cherry," he smiled looking at her as they drove out of the hospital. "I don’t like the decor there... And you’re the best. So..."
She nodded although she was not in the mood for interior decorations. Also, shouldn’t they be frugal?
"Are you stashing cash somewhere, Fizzy?" she asked. Why is he so carefree? She was not blaming him. She hoped that he was smart enough to not put all his money in one place.
"What? No," he shrugged.
And she watched as his smile reduced and a frown formed in between his eyes. She regretted talking about their financial status. Everything he knew is gone. He should find a new means to earn money. Men are expected to be the providers and she could see how much stress Liam is in because of that.
And the company he poured all his blood and sweat is going in the drain because of that monster. All his efforts were reduced to nothing. That will hurt.
"I can sell some of my stock options. It would fetch good money~"
"No!"
He answered curtly. He looked humiliated. She never has seen him this way. It hurt her to see him this way.
She wanted to help him. But she didn’t know how. She is so useless she is of no help to anyone and yet how can she help in such a big issue?
Sure, she might have helped some families. But this is an entirely different league. Just because her stocks rose in value, doesn’t mean that she is someone adept in business.
Maybe she should leave it to Liam. He is smart and he would know what he is doing. She need not put her useless paws in his life.
"Here we are!" he smiled looking up at the tall building in the most expensive residential area.
She didn’t know why he, as someone who grew up in a farmhouse and acres of land around, decided to buy an apartment and not a villa in the suburbs or near the beach.
But it made sense. He loved their apartment life when they were in university.
But this one was huge with five bedrooms, two studies, and a gym. She was not a very big fan of contemporary design and so she found those large floor-to-ceiling windows obnoxious. And although they were on the topmost floor, they had a swimming pool. She has never seen a pool this high.
And sun... There was a lot of sunlight inside the house. A dangerous amount of sun for someone with her disposition.
"See, if you press this button..." he smiled, and the windows got darker and darker and almost blocked all the sun.
"Aww! I love this!" she grabbed the remote. This is her lifesaver.
Liam saw the smile on her face and his lips curved up too. She is truly happy. He thought she didn’t like the house when she first entered, but she is happy.
He grabbed her arm and pulled her into a hug. "I wanted to bring you here for a very long time... I am glad you are here. And I am so happy you like this place, Cherry... Let’s start our life here," he said.
Hugging him... It was unexpectedly odd. She was not this close to him for a very long time. Rory stood without moving an inch in his embrace. But she nodded even though she did not like this house at all. She can see the efforts Liam is putting in to make her happy. She didn’t want to be an ungrateful b*tch.
She does not deserve to show her attitude to him. She does not deserve anything. What she has is already too much for a useless person like her.
She went to therapy. Liam had taken on the role of being the mother and father of Ellie and she had almost adjusted to her father alone. She even stopped looking for her.
And for Rory, it made her feel surer that she is useless.
She went to therapy. She tried her best to not sit in a spot or sleep all the time. She started doing some chores around the house. It was not a great recovery, and she was not at all happy to do any of that, but she forced herself to.
She didn’t know if that was good.
She didn’t like that closed house with glasses everywhere. When she saw the shimmers on the glass, it would remind her of that cellar where the broken glasses reflected the warm light.
She couldn’t feel safe. She once had a vivid dream that Lennon escapes from the prison and was standing by her bed.
She tried, but she was not getting any better.
