Chapter 187: Moving Forward, Alone

Chapter 187: Moving Forward, Alone

Rory felt like she was stabbed in her chest hearing what Mrs. Delport said. It hurt to hear that this is what she is thinking of her-- because she is speaking her heart, she is going to end up alone.

She wanted to speak more. But she stopped herself. No one will listen to her. No one is going to understand the pain in her heart and listen to her words. No one.

But then, it made sense. When Liam acted up hiding the pain in his heart, everyone skirted around him. They loved him, and yet they weren’t willing to listen to him and solve his hurt.

It was obvious that he was hurting deep inside and that’s why she stayed with him not minding his tantrums.

But he is not going to be there for her. He might have stayed with her till now in the hopes that she wouldn’t blatanty speak the truth. Now he knows the truth and he won’t be there for her anymore.

She took a glance at Liam. She still had a little wish that he would talk to her, and ask her about the pain in her heart. He looked fed up. He was fiddling with his fingers and his face was stiffened. He was contemplating something so deeply.

Of course, he would second-guess his words.

He was always like that. At the spur of the moment, he will say something, and then he will regret ever saying that. That’s why she didn’t take his words seriously when he said that they still can be a married couple.

He is going to change his mind. It is only a matter of time.

With a sigh, she looked at Mrs. Delport. She was sure that Lennon didn’t touch her, and that Ellie is Liam’s daughter. She hoped that was the case.

But it is late. Liam won’t accept her with all his heart now. Whether Lennon spoke the truth or not, he was right about Liam. After having a vivid image of what his "father" did to her, he won’t be able to continue living with her.

And she will never blame Liam for that. He is who he is. And their situation is messier. She can accept the truth blaring at her face.

So, Mrs. Delport is right. She has no one! She already feels that way.

There may be some people around her for now, but they won’t stick around for long. It’s only a matter of time.

She didn’t feel like talking anymore. What is the use when no one is listening to her? She can keep her silence. She lay on the bed showing her back to those in the room and covered herself with the blanket.

That was her politely asking them to leave her alone. And they did. Within a minute. It hurt. But she took in a deep breath. No one ever loved her truly. Because if they did, they wouldn’t leave her so easily even if they think that she is wrong.

She did stay even when Liam wronged her because she loved him. She could love truly and deeply. And it hurt to think that she will never get loved like that.

She cried unable to hold back her tears. She cried for the love she had for Liam. She didn’t pity herself. If she had a reason to pity herself, she would pity herself for not seeing that no one loved her. She will never pity herself for being the victim.

She should find a way to move forward, alone. Alone because she chose to, and not because she was pushed to.

-----

"She’s..." Liam’s eyes reddened seeing through the glass in the door. He was mad she spoke such harsh words, but he still couldn’t stay mad at her. It hurt. "She’s been doing this a lot. She is not speaking and just shuts herself in silence. How can she...Are you sure that...he...that devil didn’t hurt her when she was young?" He asked.

It was terrifying if true.

"Yes, I am sure. We stopped him and ever since then our security measures were increased. We never let his shadow fall on her when she was asleep," Mrs. Delport assured him. It’s the truth. And she had no qualms talking about it.

"Even after our wedding?" he asked. He believed Mrs. Delport.

He saw the security in Agnes Roberts’ house. He thought it was to protect Agnes’ secrets, but he could now understand it was to protect Rory.

"Yes. He stayed away for a long while until there was a crack in your relationship..." Mrs. Delport looked at Liam in a little accusatory way. "But he never touched her. He never was allowed to. Aurelia Roberts is your daughter. We are one hundred percent sure of that."

It was when Liam started to have wandering eyes, Lennon became more obsessed with Rory. Maybe he thought that he had a chance now that Liam would be unworthy to be with Rory.

Who knows what went through the mind of that psychopath?

Liam bowed his head in shame. Lennon would often call him smart and a high-value man that any woman would be lucky to have. And at times, he would talk as if cheating is common among high-value men. And he in his stupidity believed every word Lennon said. And thought that he is entitled to like the adoration of other women.

But he was wrong. And he let a third person between them. He is guilty of letting Rory end up where she is now. All she ever did was to lift him up, and he repaid it by dragging her down.

Mrs. Delport patted his shoulder. "Take your daughter and go back to your home. Leave her be. She will be fine after a while. I’ll have someone look after her," she said in a soft voice.

Liam scoffed. "What "pictures" was she talking about?" As Mrs. Delport was not answering him, he shook his head. "I am not leaving her alone. She is never going to be alone. She was there for me when I had no one. And when she is..." he stopped as a lump formed in his throat.

"You heard what she said, right?" Mrs. Delport pressed her lips. "And judging by the state she was in when she was brought in, don’t you have a slight clue on what happened to her in that house, right?" she asked.

Liam snorted. He knows. And without knowing the actual happenings, his mind has been creating various scenarios. It haunted him. But...

"It does not matter," he said.

Mrs. Delport let out a long sigh. "No, it matters. You’re not acknowledging what happened. The effects it would have on your relationship... You should think about it more. It is concerning. Stay away. Think about everything deeply. Think if you really love her even after what happened to her, and even after seeing her behavior. If you can return to the way you loved before everything unraveled.... It’s impossible. A lot had happened, and your relationship is changed forever. Acknowledge that, at least."

Liam smirked. His first instinct was to shout at her for not properly protecting Rory. But it was his duty to protect her too. Lennon took advantage of his momentary weakness. If he had stayed with Rory that night, maybe Laura Brown would have been alive. And Lennon still might be looking for ways to get him.

But he made it all easy for Lennon. He is at fault here.

"I am not leaving her alone. And you... that man cannot die until I show him how happy I am with my wife. He should die knowing that after everything he did, he couldn’t break us," he said pointing his finger at Mrs. Delport. "He cannot win. I will not let him win," he said and got inside the room.

Mrs. Delport sighed. He might be wanting to get back at Lennon. And Lennon wouldn’t obviously want to see his son happy. And seeing him happy would break his heart...Ugh, he does not have a heart. But he won’t be pleased to know that he couldn’t control and manipulate their lives.

It would be great if Liam and Rory stood in front of him with their baby all filled with love and joy. But it is not she who wants him dead. A lot of people do. It is hard to achieve that.

And Rory... she didn’t think that this would break her that much. It seemed like she was holding resentments for a long time, and they’ve failed to address that.

What can be done? How can she be helped?

-----

Liam sat by her side and watched her. She had fallen asleep already. But this time, he could see that her pillow was wet.

She had cried. That was a change. But he didn’t know if it was for good or not.

He did not understand what the fuzz was about. He had thought about what might have happened in the house, but it is not going to change how he sees her.

She is the one who needs to accept that. He has nothing to acknowledge.

So, what if Lennon touched her and...

His eyes ended up on her neck. There was a hickey that bothered him a lot. He didn’t leave any hickey on her and so it might have happened at the house.

Among other things...He broke her bones and dragged her through the broken glass... and kissed her.
