Chapter 186: Left Alone
Liam could not understand what Rory was saying at first.
Brother of Ellie? Is Cherry pregnant by any chance?
"What?" He almost jumped in joy. But then he remembered that the doctors ran every test there is on her. They would have informed him if she was pregnant.
If so..., what does she mean when she says their daughter will be with her brother?
"What the..." Mrs. Delport gritted her teeth and almost snapped at her but she held herself back.
Liam was concerned seeing Mrs. Delport like that and only then he realized that she had said something so abhorrent.
Me? She is mentioning me as Ellie’s brother. What is wrong with her?
His blood boiled. "What do you mean?" He shouted at her. That is such an absurd suggestion. It is true that Lennon did something to her in that house that made her traumatized, but isn’t she going too far? She is speaking as if he was...
Seeing her blank expression, his chest hurt. It hurt to even look at her. "Have you gone totally crazy?" he asked. His voice trembled out of anger.
He was being patient with her; patience he never had. And yet, she is pushing his buttons and is even suggesting something so absurd.
Mrs. Delport turned and looked at him. She was unimpressed that he raised his voice although she did the same. "Arrange for a DNA test. Let’s put her doubts to rest," she said.
"No way! Why should I? She is my daughter. Where is this absurd thought even come from?" he shouted. His eyes were red, and his lips trembled. He then looked at Rory. "You want a divorce. Is that it? We’ll divorce. Stop saying stupid stuff just because..." he pressed his lips from speaking further.
Just because he did the same in the past, she is doing it too. He now understood how his mindless words that he never meant had hurt her for her to behave this way.
Even still, to suggest that Ellie is not his daughter, and refusing to even...
He couldn’t even think about that further. All he could remember was his mother. Frank said that she was singing the same tune as Rory does. And, if Lennon was his father, and his mother was right, then... is Rory right too?
His heart skipped a beat, and he took a step back.
Lennon tried something on Rory and what if he tried to do that in the past too? That day his shirt disappeared... Isn’t that the same day they conceived Ellie?
No... NO... It can’t be... It can’t be...
That f8cking son of a b*tch! How dare he! Was it not enough for him to take my mother? Must he had to ruin my wife too?
No... It can’t be true... No...
He shook his head. He then walked to Rory and pointed his finger at her. "We are not getting a DNA test. We are not getting divorced. I am Ellie’s father, and you are her mother. We are a family. You are going to pull yourself together somehow and be the godda*n mother and wife you are supposed to be."
He is not going to do the test. What if... What if she is right and... and...
He’d rather die than having that happen to him.
Rory scoffed seeing the serious expression on his face. She then turned her face away. "Typical," she murmured under her breath.
If he wants to, he’ll believe that is the truth forgoing all the proof that is pointing otherwise. Apparently, he can never change that characteristic of himself.
But she is nothing like him. As if he could change her mind.
Pull herself together? What is there to pull? there is nothing of hers left anymore. She is merely alive for no reason.
"That’s bullsh*t!" Mrs. Delport turned at Liam. "You should do the test. The test will prove her that you are the father. It’s~"
Rory’s laugh interjected Mrs. Delport’s serious voice. She turned and looked at Rory who was laughing holding her abdomen. "Of course... Of course, how could there be any other result than what the great Agnes Roberts wishes to happen? No matter what the actual tests say, the report will say that he is Ellie’s father, won’t it?" Her face turned serious. "I am not going to believe any test results where your dirty paws could reach."
She scoffed. Liam was looking at her pale and confused and filled with anger. Mrs. Delport snorted.
"You won’t believe the test results, and yet you will believe the words of a known liar and manipulator? What happened to your wisdom? Do you even make any sense? Are you speaking after thinking or~"
"Oh, I know I am making sense, Mrs. Delport. You know I make sense. Now tell me... That "liar" and "manipulator" was taking naked pictures of me in my bedroom when I was just thirteen years old. Where were you then? You almost blew my brains out trying to keep those pictures from me, and yet you let him take those pictures and move in and out of your house," she squinted her eyes and looked at Mrs. Delport. The corner of her lips got raised.
"Did you sell me out? How much were you paid?" she asked. Her eyes were red and her lips were trembling. "He said he took me when I was 13! I was 13!" she shouted and her voice cracked.
"Who were you protecting? The nation? One of your f*cking secrets? Or...What? You definitely weren’t protecting me when I was under your roof, when I was a minor depending on you adults for protection..."
Tears dripped from her face.
"I would have been much safer, and happier as an orphan back in my homeland. Those villagers would have fed me and kept me much safer than the great Agnes Roberts did. No one would have sold me for whatever reason!"
"We didn’t know about the pictures. And Aurora, trust me when I say this. Listen closely. He never touched you. Never!" Mrs. Delport said. Her eyes were misty as she couldn’t answer much of what Rory said. But she said the one thing that she was sure of.
Rory scoffed and turned her face. "You never once gave me a reason to trust you. I should have returned to my homeland after my grandpa passed. My dad stayed away from that woman for a reason and I..." she couldn’t speak further as her throat closed out of sorrow. She wiped her tears and sniffed.
"Just leave me alone! I don’t have the time to watch your drama," she said. She didn’t want ot look at anyone’s face. No one protected her when she needed protection. And they are all ready to blame her when she speaks the truth.
Her eyes ended up at Liam. He was leaning on the wall with his head bowed. He was staring at his hand. She didn’t want to know what he was thinking. "What made you surprised, huh? You always treated me like sh*t because you were the only one suffering, right? Have you heard what I said right now? I never was happy here. And your father was r*ping me with my grandmother’s permission. Aren’t you happy now to hear all this? Do you still want to be the hero who is going to give life to a battered~"
"Shut up!" Liam shouted. "Just shut your f*cking mouth up! Do not say a f*cking word or I’ll..." he then screamed looking at the ceiling. His facial muscles trembled, and he teared up out of anger. "Why? Just why is this happening? What is she saying? What pictures? Is she telling the truth? When she was 13, did~"
"No, she is wrong," Mrs. Delport tried to keep her composure, and yet she couldn’t control her trembling fingers.
Aurora was not all wrong. Agnes did let Lennon leave with what he did to her for protecting the interests of the nation. At that moment, she did value the nation more than her own granddaughter.
And Aurora never felt at home. They knew it. And yet they did nothing of value. They tried to give her what she needed and what she wanted, but they never gave her the family she yearned for.
And even the little family she built for herself is on the verge of crumbling. Mrs. Delport did not want that to happen.
Liam shook his head. Mrs. Delport was saying one thing and yet her guilt-filled face says another story.
He remembered Lennon standing by Rory’s window when she was eighteen. And for five years before that he had been... And yet, no one helped her.
He was there but he didn’t know. But even if he knew, would he have done anything? There were signs everywhere. But what did he do?
Nothing! He let her suffer!
"Why?" he asked Mrs. Delport. "Why?"
Why did you let her suffer?
"Why what? Just divorce me, Liam. And take that baby with you. I don’t need any of you. I never needed~"
"That’s enough, Aurora!" Mrs. Delport stopped her. "You are crossing the limits! Keep on with this and you will be left alone for real."
She was angry.
