Chapter 167: Where She Wanted To Be

Rory tried to switch on her phone, but the display was damaged. She could not operate the phone.

"I took pictures of Liam..." she said controlling her sniff. "He was so..." She pouted.

Lennon laughed, as he always does when it involved the both of them. Rory looked at him with a little red on her cheeks. Usually, he would follow it by saying that they are interesting. But this time, Lennon’s eyes turned intense as he looked at her.

He held out his hand. "Let’s give your phone for repair then. We can use that pictures to get~"

"No need!" With a playful pout that was hard for her to fake, she placed her phone back inside her pocket. "Let him suffer some more..." she let out a sigh. "Maybe tomorrow..."

"But you’d still need your phone..." Lennon tried to reason with her.

Rory turned to look at Lennon. She had never traveled with Lennon sitting closer like this. And she is not sure what is waiting for her. She wanted to help Liam and others, but she was still scared to leave Ellie alone.

Thinking about Ellie made her eyes water. Her tears were genuine. And she leaned on Lennon’s shoulder. "I had to learn from the cops that he thought I was having illicit relationships with Derick. Derick of all people, uncle. How could he?" she started to sob.

"Hmm... he did? Isn’t that a bit..." Lennon placed his hand over her head.

Rory’s hand stood on the edge, but she let Lennon "comfort" her. She needs to be inside the house to see for sure. If Lennon is the killer, there are bound to be some clues in the house that he frequents.

"He said that he almost cheated with Allison... Maybe he did... Maybe he lied to me because Allison was threatening him. Maybe that baby they found was his... He refused to be with me and... he left me alone and he made Allison pregnant... How could he? He cheated, and he doubted me! It makes me want to cheat, for real," she said.

"Why can’t I cheat once, when he did it repeatedly?"

She hated speaking this way. It was not her principle to even think this way. Cheating is wrong, no matter what the intention or the reason behind it is. No one should cheat for any reason. If they are not happy in a relationship, they should break it off before being with another person.

But she wanted to show herself to be vulnerable in front of Lennon. She was ashamed of herself for doing this, but it is necessary. She didn’t dare to look up to see what Lennon’s expression was.

She showed him that she still cared for Liam. Because no one will believe her if she suddenly says that she does not care for Liam anymore.

But then she acted vulnerable. The human agency to doubt their partner whom they love very dearly. And where there is more love, there would be jealousy and where there is jealousy, the results wouldn’t be pretty always.

And the female characteristic of getting back at the one they love by doing the same wrong that hurt them. That’s what she did.

And all she has to do is make Lennon believe that she chose Lennon to be "that guy". But will he accept?

She felt her skin crawl, disgusted by herself. But it is necessary.

She only looked up when the car came to a stop. She let Lennon lead her inside the house. That big house was painted white. Just like every other place Lennon owned, it was empty. There were some furnishings here and there and other than that, there was nothing else that would make a house a home.

The door to the office was open and there she saw a big, framed photograph of a woman. The red-haired woman was wearing a necklace with a ruby rose pendant and she had a striking pair of blue eyes.

"Is she your mother?" Rory asked pointing at the picture.

"Yeah," Lennon walked to the room and closed the door. She sensed defensiveness from him. And so she did not talk more about that to him.

"You can rest in the room at the end of the hallway," Lennon pointed at the hallway that ran close to the open kitchen.

Everything was blindingly white. The marbles, the counters, the countertop, and even the cooking utensils that were hanging in the kitchen.

And on the single glass vase in the middle of the kitchen, there was a long stalk of a beautiful red rose.

Rory turned to look back. The living room was opposite the kitchen, and it was covered with floor-to-wall with glass. The blinds were open and bright sunlight entered the house illuminating the house naturally.

And as expected, the couch was white too.

Rory liked the house. If there were some splashes of colors here and there and...

Nah! It’s too big. It’s unnecessarily enormous. Would anyone hear the other if they are calling from the kitchen? Should we call each other using a phone even when we live in the same house?

"I love the house... and the furnishings," Rory said with a forced smile.

"I know you don’t, Rory. Don’t try." Lennon smiled a little playfully. "I let Sidney decorate this place and this is what she... This marble statue..." he showed the confusing carving that was in the living room. "And the chandelier..." he pointed at the ceiling. "They alone cost me five million," he smiled wryly.

"You should have divorced her for that statue alone," Rory laughed. She loved the glass chandelier. Although it was gaudy, it was very shiny and very pretty.

Lennon laughed with her. "Maybe you should have visited me and advised me... Just like you were around Derick, helping him..."

Rory wetted her lips and her eyes met with Lennon. His eyes were red and with the natural light that was reflected on the white surfaces everywhere, his hair looked lighter. More than a shade of red, yellow was predominant even in that cold light.

The resemblance...

Rory’s heart skipped a beat. What she read on the will of Grandpa Roberts must be true.

"I am here now, aren’t I?" Rory smiled tilting her head to the side. "Lennon?" she added. "You got cheated, I got cheated... we both are similar in a way, aren’t we?"

Her heart pounded. This is the first time she is talking to him using his name alone. But she wanted him to lower his guard.

Lennon bowed his head and scratched his chin. He was grinning.

"I’ll rest a bit..." Rory pointed at the hallway. "I don’t know why, but I am very tired."

Lennon nodded and she walked past the kitchen. "I’ll prepare dinner. What do you like?" she asked making a swift turn to look at him.

Lennon hadn’t moved much and was staring at her. "Anything you like," he said putting his hands inside his pocket. "There won’t be much in the fridge... Maybe I’ll do the shopping while you rest."

"Yeah," Rory smiled clasping her hands together. A blush formed on her face. She turned to walk away.

"Your daughter... Where is she?" Lennon asked and she stopped.

Rory’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t want Lennon to track where Ellie is. Ellie should be safe.

"I left her with Mia..." she said standing with her shoulders crunched like a defeated woman. "I..." she looked for words.

"Should I get her here?" Lennon asked.

"No!" Rory turned to face him. Her face went pale and her throat dried out. He cannot lay his hands on Ellie. But she realized that she is reacting in the wrong way in front of Lennon. She cannot show her panic like that.

Clutching her hands tightly she pressed her fingers to her palm. She wetted her lips and bowed down. "I want to be... not with her tonight, Lennon."

She looked up. Her lips were tinted red as she just bit them and were glistening. Her eyes were misty adding to her allure. And her cheeks and the tip of her nose were blushed red. In the pure white light, she looked like a seductress although she was in plain clothes and had messy hair.

She knew her allure, and she used it. Although, she doubted if it would work on Lennon if he is a psychopath.

Rory saw the darkness swirling in Lennon’s eyes. She knew what it meant. It doesn’t matter how he takes her as-- fickle, sl*t, or whatever... She was ashamed but she was not willing to back off.

She wanted him to drop his guard around her entirely.

"I’ll be waiting for our dinner, then, Aurora," Lennon said. He didn’t even pretend to smile and his voice went deep.

She knew it. She knew that he fell for her act.

Or he is pretending to.

She hoped it was the former.

"Me too," she said in a low husky voice.

Lennon gulped and his eyebrows flinched. She could see that he is fisting his hands inside his pockets and she knew that he is not angry.

He was horny!

"I’ll send you some clothes..." he said and then cleared his throat. "Some comfortable ones... for dinner..."

"Okay," Rory smiled and walked to the room.

Closing the door, she slid down the door. She held her breath to stop herself from wailing.

It will be fine...

She took out her burner phone.
