Chapter 166: In Danger
Chapter 166: In Danger
As Derick was assuring Julia, Leroy walked in. He looked confused.
"Derick, do you know who Gordon Faraday is?" Leroy asked.
"Gordon Faraday? Do you mean, The Gordon Faraday, the personal assistant of Jonathan Erling? Yeah, his name comes up at times," Derick squinted his eyes.
He is one of those "untouchables" who won’t take any accountability for his actions. A lot of times, it was rumored, that the fates of various companies, and at times, nations even, were determined by the Erling family.
Why is he being mentioned...AH!
"Did he come for Rory’s aid?" Derick asked. "Doesn’t he hate gingers? Or at least his boss does..."
Leroy shrugged and took his seat. "I heard some rumors that Aurora’s mother hailed from the Stewart line. And the Hamilton family is the descendant of Mary Stewart," he said and looked at Derick to see if he could find the connection.
"Stewart?" Derick raised his brows. "Don’t tell me... Stewart as in Mary, Queen of Scots? Wow! Rory is a Tudor? She is Royal? Well, she does have the hair of Queen Mary..."
Leroy laughed seeing the perplexed reaction of his son. "She is not the direct descendant and that’s why she does not carry any title. But she does carry the blood of the Tudors, albeit a little."
Derick sat on the couch. He needed to sit down. He is not someone who gets awed with royalty. But he was shocked to learn that Rory is closely related to the Hamilton family. The Hamilton family that was forgotten for decades recently became the center stage amongst the elites as the heir to the fortunes was revealed.
Jerlina Fitzgerald, the heir of the Hamilton fortune and the great-grandchild of Jonathan Erling was introduced to the world just a year ago. Not to mention, her husband Jeremy Fitzgerald, is the "Titan of the Lumber Industry" and also the King of Bonivia, the country that recently was announced a democratic republic.
"How did Rory convince Robert Milroy to help her?" Derick asked. He couldn’t imagine how Rory knew about the Erling and Hamilton connection. It could be Count Charles. He loves her as a daughter, and he must have gotten help on behalf of her.
Leroy shrugged. "You know her. She never shies away from getting what she wants. And when it comes to Liam, she will go to any extremes."
Leroy knew for a fact that it was not Rory asking for help. It was Agnes who must have contacted Gordon. He had heard certain faint rumors that Gordon Faraday eyed Agnes for decades and chased her in a way only he knew. But Agnes was unrelenting.
Word on the grapevine was that Agnes hated Gordon and stayed away from anything involving the Erling family. But now she must have contacted him knowing his influence for the sake of her granddaughter.
The reason Agnes is not directly involved must be regarding the secrets she keeps. She is privy to large secrets that might ruin the lives of many. And that naturally makes her the enemy of many. The only reason she is allowed to live peacefully is that she maintains the appearance of a psychopath--the Iron lady who cares for no one; not even her family.
If word gets around that the person close to her heart is her granddaughter, that would put Rory in immense danger. Agnes has the means to protect Rory but how long can she protect her? Just by being related to her, Rory would be in constant danger. The evil people will wonder if Agnes leaked the secrets to her favorite granddaughter.
And those people won’t wait for anything. If they have doubts, they will kill Rory mercilessly whether she knows the secrets or not. They would kill her just to be safe.
That’s why whenever Rory was in trouble, Agnes stayed away. She didn’t even move a finger although Leroy could imagine how much her heart would have been restless seeing the sufferings of her granddaughter.
But she couldn’t even show her emotions to others. She knew she was under constant surveillance. And as far as Leroy could think, Agnes would be pretty happy with her recent prognosis. No one will consider her a threat now considering she is diagnosed with vascular dementia.
She would suffer physically, but at least she could be herself, watching her grandchild and great-grandchild before she...
Leroy cleared his throat. He regretted shouting at her that day.
She truly is a strong woman.
Derick nodded not knowing what his father is truly thinking. That is true. Rory never admitted it but that is the case. "So, she is safe now? Will they find out who the killer is now that Gordon is involved?"
Leroy looked around. He then leaned closer to Derick’s ear. "It’s Lennon," he whispered.
"What?" Derick stood up. "Dad, what do you mean?"
"Think it through, Derick... Those pictures of her... Who else could have taken them? He was always weird around her and remember the camera he had... the commonalities between the women who died...All had fake red hair and were against Rory. Don’t you have doubts?" Leroy asked. "I couldn’t think straight then. But..."
Leroy bowed his head. But Agnes said that the one who hurt Rory was not a Roberts. That doesn’t make sense.
The lawyer told him that he doubts Lennon considering everything that happened around the arrest of Liam. He made sense.
But the motives of Lennon considering the silence he maintained for this long... If he was attracted to Rory and did everything to have her, why did he let Liam marry her and have a child with her?
Why now? Why now out of nowhere did he frame Liam for murders?
Derick sensed the hesitation in his father’s face. "What do you know, dad?" he asked.
His detective-brain got activated and he sensed that the disappearance of Sidney at this time is fishy. Not to mention that Rory is now with Lennon.
"Could Rory be in danger?" Derick asked. "I’ll have someone tail her," he stood up and walked to the porch to make some phone calls.
After making the phone calls he got inside his car to meet Robert Milroy. That guy should know what is going on with Rory. And maybe he knows where Sidney is. It is possible that Sidney is safe somewhere thanks to Robert Milroy.
Leroy was worried a bit, but he knew that Rory is not alone. She would be watched by the most powerful people in the world, and no one can even hurt even a single hair on her head.
He wondered if Rory knows that she might be in danger, or if she is naively following Lennon to where he takes her. He hoped Rory is safe.
----
"You had no need to talk to that woman, Rory," Lennon talked to her in a stern voice.
Rory gulped. She could sense that Lennon is taking more and more advantage of her. He has no right to scold her like this. She is not a child, and he is not her father. But maybe he is asserting his dominance over her because she asked for his help.
But something did not sit well with her. She had a feeling that she is in danger.
She almost asked Lennon to drop her off so that she would take Ellie and leave somewhere away from him. There should be other ways to find the killer.
But when she saw the car turning to the exit leading to the gated community where Lennon’s old mansion is, she changed her mind.
Liam is suffering. Although she had comforted him temporarily, he was already broken. It won’t be hard for them to break him again. He does not have time.
Also, she remembered the face of Mrs. Brown. Although she was angry at her, she pitied her too. That woman will need some closure.
And Sidney... she should find Sidney. She is pregnant and she was very worried for Skyla. She cannot help having a father like Lennon, and she cannot lose her mother too.
As someone who grew up without parents, Rory did not want that for anyone else.
-----
"Of course, Sidney is with Lennon," Bobby said.
He was in his overalls and the afternoon sun glistened on his skin. Although he was the supervisor, he was working with the lumberjacks helping them tie the knots to fell a big tree. He was a pretty good climber, and he climbed that tree within some seconds.
"What?" Derick was stunned as he looked up at Bobby. "You saw her with him?"
If so, why didn’t Lennon mention that? Was dad Right? Is Lennon the bad guy?
"With him?" Bobby scoffed and made a complicated knot around the branch of the tree. "She was in a suitcase."
Derick’s heart skipped a beat.
"Did- are you sure?" he asked. "It was Sidney?"
Bobby looked down at Derick with a smirk. "Trust me, I know a thing or two about stuffing people in suitcases."
"Rory!" Derick cried. "Then why did you send her with him? I thought you were helping her!"
