Chapter 168: Field of Roses
Derick went straight to the hospital. He was blocked by some of the local cops who wanted to get more details about the creature Rory saw in the woods.
Of course, finding filets of human flesh would ring many alarm bells and they will have to conduct a detailed investigation now that the press is on it.
Derick asked them to contact the LA police department to contact her as she is not answering his calls. They told him that she had broken her phone during her visit there and no one is being able to contact her. They asked him if he could contact Lennon because they cannot get through to him. They could only contact his lawyers.
Derick’s heart sank to his abdomen. Rory left with Lennon. No one can contact Rory and Lennon is making himself unavailable. Lennon was not answering his calls either. He did not find that right.
Derick asked them if they found Sidney yet. He also added that he had a gut feeling that she would be in LA. He had to mobilize the police there and as an agent who is "on vacation," he cannot do anything.
He cursed the timing of it all in his heart.
"She’s with Lennon! You know something, don’t you?" Derick almost grabbed Mrs. Delport by her collar.
"With him?" Mrs. Delport raised her brows. There was no surprise in them. Derick knew that she is following it all closely.
"What am I going to do about it?" she asked.
Derick wanted to curse out at her, but he ran out of the hospital. It is no use trusting anyone. He should go there and find Rory himself.
-----
Rory scrunched in the corner of the room. She did a quick sweep to the better of her abilities to find out if that area was bugged. Lennon specifically asked her to stay in that room and she didn’t find that very assuring.
She did see a strange thing. Standing by the window, the garden next to the patio was visible. And there she saw a field of roses.
Those roses looked very familiar. She often received flowers that Mia would put on vases. And the red roses she received at times...
Why is every flower in this garden the same breed as the flowers I received? I thought Liam sent me the flowers... Did he get those flowers from here, or...
She could feel it. Humans evolved from animals, and they have some animal instincts left in them. One of those instincts is the extraordinary perception of danger. She couldn’t pinpoint it. But she could sense that she is in much more danger than she predicted.
She did the best she did to move forward. She kept that thought on the back burner and got to the corner she deemed "safe".
She dialed Ian.
He answered almost immediately as if he was waiting for her call.
"Where the fook are you, Rori," he asked. He sounded so fraught, and he spoke through gritted teeth. "I saw you leaving with that guy!"
"I am fine... How are you?" Rory whispered with a smile that was translated by the gentleness of her voice. She was in a panic but hearing the panic someone else was in for her sake, she was slightly relieved.
"Are you seriously..." he let out a sigh. "You were doubting him and then you left with him! What’s going on? Where did he take you? And why are you whispering?"
Rory chuckled and then told him where she was. It is better that someone else knows where she is.
"And thank you, Ian. I saw your post announcing that you are taking a break because of personal reasons. I know you are losing a lot of income for my sake and~"
"Shut it!" Ian sighed. "I have earned enough. I can live the rest of my life comfortably even if I stop making videos. But you... I can’t lose you..."
"How touchy," Rory giggled. She does find support in unbelievable places.
"Yeah, and what about you? You started reading my posts?" Ian asked.
"I always did," Rory said. "So, what did you find?"
"Yeah..." Ian took in a deep breath. Rory sat comfortably as she had a feeling that Ian had found out a lot.
"Roisin Walsh is supposedly the mother of Lennon Roberts... It’s common knowledge, right? It’s what says in his Wiki."
"Was she a ginger?" Rory asked. She wanted to know if the portrait of the woman in Lennon’s mother.
"Yes, she was... Hence the name. Her name means ’little rose’ in Gaelic. And gingers are pretty common where we are from, right?" Ian spoke casually giving out the details and he didn’t find that detail to be of importance.
"But get this..." his voice turned serious. "Roisin Walsh did have a son named Lennon. At first, everything looks fine, right?"
"Right," Rory agreed. She had a feeling that she is going to get the proof of what she read in Grandpa Roberts’ will.
"But here comes the fine details... Roisin’s son Lennon, died of brain fever when he was two. She got the death certificate from the government. But she lost the papers. But her son’s death was registered. It was hard to find. I had to... but...Ah, that’s not important. She lived alone in Balgriffin. And get this, she had a neighbor by the name of Aurora Caroll. She was an addict, with a son, the same age as Lennon would be... Rumors were that she was a sex worker and the identity of the father of her son is unknown..."
"Oh, God!" Rory let out a sigh. "Grandpa Roberts excluded only Liam and Lennon from his will. Apparently, he did a DNA test and found out that those two are not his blood. He had pleaded with Grandma Roberts not to treat them any differently just because they are not his blood, but he didn’t want them to inherit any of the Roberts’ inheritance~"
"Makes sense... But you have to listen, Rori. It is not some case of stolen identity. You can’t be with him. Just leave. Save yourself," Ian’s voice turned somber.
"What did you find out? So, his mother’s name was Aurora? What happened to her? Is she alive still?" Rory asked and a chill passed through her spine. "What is Lennon’s real name? Tell me everything you know."
"It’s not important. Do you want me to narrate you a story now? I am saying that staying there is dangerous. Just leave. I’ll tell you the details later," Ian hurried her.
"My survival depends on it, Ian. Tell me everything. Now!" Rory was stern. She cannot leave and she might find clues as to what she should do next.
Ian was silent for a few seconds as he contemplated. He knew Rory. She is not going to change her mind without a reason. So, he decided to tell her everything.
"Rori, do you know how they died? Uh... Yes. His real mother’s name was Aurora. It’s not a very rare name and she was a ginger too. His name was William when he was with~"
"Oh, God!" Rory rubbed her face. "Was he called "Liam" then?" She couldn’t believe the coincidences around her.
"Yeah..." Ian said, "Yeah," he repeated understanding why Rory is panicking. Her husband is called "Liam" by everyone including Lennon.
"His mother... His real mother Aurora was found with her head smashed by a big rock in her backyard... Police investigation led nowhere. Well, to be honest, a woman of her status... People knew who she was, and no one bothered to find out how she died. Her son, Liam who was seven years old then however was taken in by their neighbor, Roisin. He had built a great relationship with her as he talked about how his mother abused him for years. Roisin missed her son, and she treated Liam as her own. She often called him Lennon after her dead son," Ian took a break.
"Wait... could William...Lennon... be the reason for his mother’s death?" Rory asked. She did not want to use the same name as her husband to refer to that monster.
If that is true, then Lennon’s victims are not just Laura and Allison. And Lennon would undoubtedly be a serial killer.
"We can’t be sure. But he surely killed Roisin," Ian said and Rory was shocked.
"What?"
"Yeah... Five years passed, and Roisin moved to Dublin. Liam, now living as Lennon and even registered in school as Lennon Walsh, son of Roisin Walsh, lived a very perfect life. But get this... During his stay in Dublin, there were a series of murders that shook the city. You can still look it up. Sex workers, drug addicts, recovering addicts, and party girls who stay late at pubs were killed. All of them were women, and guess what?" Ian asked.
"They were gingers?" Rory asked. Her face went pale as she could not believe what she was hearing.
Did he start killing as early as 12?
"Yes," Ian continued. "Five murders in the span of three months. He had slashed their throat. The first two were a rather clumsy job but he had started to get a hang of it and his cuts were perfected by the fifth. These murders shook the city of Dublin, and the cops couldn’t find the killer... Until they received a phone call from Roisin Walsh..."
