Chapter 162: Omitted Truth

Rory could see what the detective was insinuating. She is meaning to say that Liam was angry to see Derick’s car and he went back to the bar to "bring Allison home" as she mentioned earlier.

The detective is insinuating that she had something going on with Derick and that Liam doubted her too.

"Your husband, Mrs. Roberts," the detective raised her voice. She was not impressed with Rory’s outburst. "We have him on footage kicking agent Roberts’ car. And he broke his phone after he made that call to you from the bar. We talked to agent Roberts’ ex-wife. She was so sure that you were the reason for the end of their marriage. She said you were interfering in their life so much and even caused fights between the couple. She said she could not bear it and had to end their marriage. So, would you mind explaining to us your relationship with agent Roberts? If both of your spouses were doubting the relationship..."

As she was speaking, Rory stood up.

"Then interrogate Megan as she seems to know everything!"

She did not want to talk to the detective anymore. Slamming the door open, she walked out of the room. She did not walk out but proceeded to walk inside the hallways. She opened and closed the other interrogation rooms along the way.

The detectives inside those interrogation rooms were all stunned to see her. They all ran out shouting that there is an intruder.

"Stop!"

A couple of guards followed her trying to stop her. But she didn’t bother with them and ran forward.

"I am not leaving without meeting my husband!" she shouted.

One of the guards caught up with her. Holding her neck, he pressed her face on the wall and tried to grab her wrists to cuff her. Rory struggled back.

"I dare you...Are you listening to me?" she shouted. "I dare you to arrest me!"

The guard did not let go of her, but Lawyer Watson came running. "After every illegal act that went on here, if you arrest her, I won’t let it pass, Chief," he shouted at the Chief of police standing by the door of his office.

"Let her meet her husband," lawyer Watson told the chief.

The chief looked at the lawyer and nodded after a while. "Five minutes," he said and walked in.

Rory let out a sigh and fixed her clothes. With her back straight she looked at the guard and he led her to the deepest part of the hallways while mumbling something under his breath.

"They want to be sure Agnes Roberts is not involved in this..." Lawyer Watson whispered in her ear. "If she is involved, things wouldn’t have escalated this much."

Rory gulped. "But she is not going to get herself involved in my issues. She never had and never will. If she did, I’d be locked up too for reasons she will come up with. Maybe she is soft on me because I have a child to look after," Rory said with a wry smile.

Lawyer Watson shook his head in disappointment. "It’s such a shame... I’ve seen people with influence trying to save their family even when they are involved in worst cases than this, but Agnes... I thought the chief would receive a phone call from your grandmother but... " he sighed. "She truly is a psychopath as they say... I thought since you are family, she would..."

His voice trailed off.

"She is not a psychopath. She just doesn’t care about me," she said in a low voice. A lump formed in her throat. Although she keeps on saying it again and again, it still is hard to accept the fact.

But at least she gets along with Ellie.

Watson answered the call he received. Rory had nothing to say to the lawyer. It is true. Others will try and save their family in any way possible, but her grandmother is not like others. She is very principled.

What can she do?

And her thoughts were filled with what the detective said. She hoped that the detective was wrong. She hoped that everyone who sees the file or everyone who knew them did not think that she and Derick had "something" when both of them were married.

She wouldn’t be able to survive if Liam thought that she had something going on with Derick. Derick, of all people. Derick who is like a big brother to her, Derick who had literally saved her life, Derick who she admires.

Not even once had such thoughts crossed her mind. With Derick, she never ever saw him other than family.

The guard stood in front of a door and unlocked it. Rory pushed open the door and stepped in. The moment she entered she squinted her eyes at the blinding lights inside. The room was hot too maybe because of those bright lights.

It took her eyes some time to adjust to the bright lights. "Fizzy...?" Her voice shook as she laid eyes on the figure slumped on the table. He didn’t move and her heart skipped a beat.

"Fizzy, baby..." she ran to the table and placed her hand on his head. "Liam?" she called for him again as he didn’t respond. Her eyes watered and her chest became heavy. "What have you done to him?" she shouted at the guard. "You monsters!"

The guard with no emotions closed the door keeping the lawyer outside. She wiped the tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Fitzwilliam! Look at me right this instant!" she lifted his face cupping his cheeks. His eyes were drooped, and he looked half-conscious. Her heart broke to shills seeing him like that.

------

"Fizzy!" she patted his cheeks and he opened his eyes slightly. "Fizzy, open our eyes. Look at me...Your Cherry is here, look!" she spoke amidst sobs. She had never seen him in such a state before.

His hands were chained to the table and his legs were chained together with his hands. She could not bear to see her husband getting treated as some monster who hunts and preys on humans.

"Cher-ry?" Liam’s lips were broken due to dehydration. As he spoke, she could see little red seeping in between the cracks. They’ve let him dehydrated enough that he bleeds when he speaks. Rory wanted to wail. But she covered her mouth with her hands to not let him hear her sobs.

"Is that really...is that you, Cherry...?" He held out his hand. But he couldn’t stretch his hands far as his hands were cuffed to the table. His voice was meek and shaking. She had a feeling that he is hurting his throat by speaking. His voice was so coarse.

"It is... I am your Cherry... Here..." Rory leaned closer to his hands and let him hold her.

She has heard from Derick that the tactics their agency use would break anyone but she never thought that someone could be reduced to this state in just a day. She was very glad she came here to have a look at him.

She took some pictures on her phone so she would have evidence that Liam was getting mistreated in custody. She didn’t know how this will be handled in federal courts but in other courts, even a confession that is gotten by coercion won’t be accepted. She hoped that Liam did not say anything he didn’t want to say after going through all these tortures they put him through.

She then poured him some water and had him drink it. He couldn’t even swallow a mouthful of water. She patiently stood by his side and let him drink water little by little.

"Four minutes up," the guard said slightly opening the door.

"Bring him something to eat," Rory told him.

"He refused food," the guard said in a casual tone.

"Bring him food. Or I am going to appeal to the humanitarian council for mistreating your prisoner." Rory’s eyes were focused and her voice echoed in that almost empty room. "And dim the lights. It melts my brain."

"Thirty seconds left," the guard said and closed the door.

Rory looked at Liam with his hands shaking not even able to hold the glass of water. She dialed Mrs. Delport while holding the glass for him. She couldn’t stop her tears. She thought Liam would die if he is left here.

"Please, do something. He’ll die if he’s left here," she said controlling her sobs immediately after Mrs. Delport answered the phone. "Please, I beg you. I’ll do anything you ask. Please, save my husband. Ask grandma to call~"

"Who told you to go there? You cannot ask for help when you don’t listen. And your grandmother cannot do anything. Just leave her alone. She’s still recovering."

*Beep*

The call ended.

"Hello?" Rory looked at the phone not believing that Mrs. Delport ended the call when she was begging for help. Tears rolled down her cheeks. Her hands shook and her phone almost slipped and fell on the floor.

Never in her life did she feel this helpless.

"Your visitation time is over, Mrs. Roberts," the guard said standing by the door.

Rory bowed and looked at Liam. Holding her hand he was trembling. "Cherry..." he said and looked at her.

"I’ll do something, Fizzy," she bowed and kissed his forehead. She did not want to cry anymore. She was planning on leaving it everything to law, but no one is going to help her husband. She will.

"Tell me, Fitzwilliam. The video you made...Queen of all Argyll... Did your uncle help you gather some of the pictures?" she asked.

She wanted to confirm her doubts.
