Chapter 147: Leaving The Town

Chapter 147: Leaving The Town

Liam gulped as he realized that he was right. They are investigating both murders as if it was done by the same guy.

And they are convinced that he is that guy.

Liam remembered that conversation he had that day. One of the local cops was the one questioning him and he was a little tipsy then. He decided on divorcing Rory that day and all he could think of that day was divorce.

And that’s all he talked about. And that’s how he missed informing the cops that he saw Laura in that abandoned parking lot with another guy.

That guy...

"Listen to me..." Liam leaned forward. "I know you think that the two murders were done by the same guy. And I think you are right."

"And?" the agent smirked.

"But you got the wrong guy. I’m not the one who committed those murders. I have proof."

"Proof?" the agent’s face got serious. "What proof?"

Liam gulped seeing the panic and desperation on his face. And that made him wonder if he knows that he did not commit the murders and yet is trying to make him confess.

"The abandoned parking lot near the woods... That’s where Laura Brown was last seen, right? If you check the other CCTV footage, you’ll know that I was not driving a truck that night. And Laura was with a guy who drove a truck, right?" he asked.

"A truck?" The agent knitted his brows.

"Yes, a white Ford pickup truck... the guy was wearing a black shirt...and that black shirt was mine. That guy was wearing my black shirt that he stole from our apartment a month earlier. He was always planning on framing me."

Liam saw the agent looking at him with the same expression. But he could say that he did not believe a single word out of his mouth.

"You are being framed by some guy?" The agent asked.

Of course, he is going to repeat what his lawyer said verbatim.

"Who is it?"

Although he didn’t believe his story, he let Liam speak more. Because the more he speaks, the higher the chance they have to get out his confession.

"It’s my..." Liam closed his lips. He did not want to speak. Only after this did he realize he has already done what he was warned not to do.

He already talked.

Sh*t!

He cursed under his breath. Resting his forehead on the table, he tried to find a way out of it. But his brain was jumping from one thought to another, and he couldn’t stop himself.

"Why do you think that guy wants to frame you?" the agent asked to hope to make him talk more.

He already opened up and he didn’t want to let him retreat back to his cave of silence once more.

Liam looked up with a smirk. "You found that black shirt, didn’t you? What did you find on it? My hair? My DNA?" he asked. "No, no... had you found something that incriminating, I’d already be charged for Laura Brown’s murder... So... What do you have on me?"

Liam fixed his eyes on the agent. The agent cleared his throat. But he maintained his eye contact.

"You have nothing valid on me... Isn’t that why you are looking for witnesses and trying hard to get me to confess? Huh?" Liam gritted his teeth. "Burn in hell, pigs!"

He hissed and tried to yank the chain from his hands. "Get this off of me! Set me free! Set me free, pigs! You know I am not the murderer. Let me go, f*cktards!" he shouted.

The agent stood up and the last thing Liam saw was the agent’s fist traveling at a high velocity toward his face.

And then there was darkness.

-----

"Geez, Babe! Why are you still awake?" Julia asked as she woke up startled.

"Sorry," Derick turned on the light rubbing his forehead. "I couldn’t fall asleep."

"Oh, babe..." Julia rubbed his back. She knew he is under a lot of stress. "Tell me how I can help."

"Ah, it’s..." Derick waved his hand. "Actually... Jules, how many know the color of your n*pples?" he asked.

"Wha-" Julia was stunned. "What is this about?"

"Is it a- I mean, as a woman, is it a big deal?" he asked.

Julia didn’t say anything because she didn’t know what he means by that. She was sleeping just a minute ago and now her finance is talking about the color of n*pples. She was confused.

"It’s..." Derick sighed. And then his face paled as he realized that he hasn’t talked to Julia about those pictures of Rory. His heart pounded.

"What is it, Derick! You’re scaring me. What is wrong?" Julia asked patting his chest. He looked utterly broken.

Derick told her about everything that happened in the past and the conversation he had with Rory recently.

"Now I understand..." Julia gently caressed Derick’s hair as he lay on her lap. "I think it is a big issue for her... Some want to belong to just ’the one’. Rory is that kind. And it would be..." She stopped seeing Derick hiding his face in her lap.

She didn’t know how to handle this.

"I’ll talk to her in the morning and..."

"Will you?" Derick held her hand. "And about our wedding..."

"Yeah," Julia interjected him. "I have an idea."

Derick listened to her idea, and he thought that it was best to listen to her.

-----

Rory woke up with a gasp. She patted her chest which was pounding. She was having a nightmare and for some reason, she forgot what it was as soon as she woke up.

"Ok, sh*t!" she checked the time. She has to be at her grandmother’s house with Ellie at midnight.

There were only ten minutes left. She picked up Ellie and grabbed the luggage. She didn’t want to wake up others by walking through the hallway. She would have jumped out of the window if she was alone but carrying Ellie, she didn’t want to take that chance.

She carefully unlocked the door. The entire house was silent. She carefully walked out hoping that Ellie does not make a sound and wake someone.

She let out a sigh as she stepped out of the door.

Her relief was only short-lived as she saw Spikes in front of her wagging his tail. And she knew what that dog would do next.

He will bark and wake the entire house.

"Shush... Spikey boy... Get inside...Good boy..." she tried to calm the dog.

But the dog only got more excited and started circling her legs wanting to play with her. She didn’t even have the treat to give, and she knew there is only one way left.

Holding Ellie close to her chest, and holding her breath, she made a run for it.

*Woof* *Woof*

Spikes barked and ran behind her. Rory saw the light switching on in Liam’s father’s room, followed by every other room. And she noticed that the reporters were getting alerted too.

No!

I can’t get caught!

She ran as fast as she can.
