The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 143: His Obsession
Chapter 143: His Obsession
On the drive back, Rory did not want to talk to Derick. She didn’t know why Derick wanted to discuss the weather with her. She didn’t care if there is going to be a blood moon or whatever.
"Those photographs..." she started and watched Derick’s face go pale.
She did not want to let him pass. "You are a criminal investigator. Seeing those pictures, what did you conclude?" she asked.
She thought it was for revenge or for humiliating her. Or even blackmail her grandmother. She didn’t think there is any more to it. She didn’t dare to think there is any more to it.
The brain is a funny thing. It does everything to deflect from reaching the truth when the truth might hurt more. And that’s what her brain did. She could only think of the least damaging thing that she could think of out of that devastating truth.
"What?" Derick gulped. He couldn’t think properly when she is asking about those pictures. He almost forgot those pictures. "I don’t remember those pictures... And the color of your... I don’t remember anything at all! It’s been years since I’ve seen them..."
He wanted to clear it.
There was no change in Rory’s expression. "Not those pictures, the motive behind those pictures. It’s probably for blackmail, right? Trying to get revenge or..."
Derick saw the expectation in her eyes. She really wants it to be blackmail material. But the truth is...
It was sexual! The person who took the pictures was looking at her with sexual intent. Blackmailing intent is possible, but the sexual desire of that pervert oozed in every picture he took. The angles and the way he portrayed Rory...
She was his desire, his obsession to be precise!
He, who studied psychology and criminology, could say that for sure. And that’s why those pictures shook him to the core. And that is why he didn’t want anyone to even doubt that he took those pictures.
And what his father said...
Derick stopped the car at the side of the road.
"Rory, did you find anything? Did you go through the pictures? What did you find? Tell me who that is. Did you remember something?" He questioned.
"What?" Rory knitted her brows. Derick’s questions were odd to her. "What should I remember?"
She was frightened that those pictures were something more sinister. Something more serious. She wouldn’t know how she will survive if that was the case.
"Nothing..." Derick gulped and retreated. "It must have been blackmail material," he lied to comfort her.
She is already in a bad place without Liam. He did not want to add to her troubles. As long as she is near him, he will protect her. But when she had blocked the trauma of her past, He didn’t want to poke it intentionally and force her to remember.
"That’s..." Rory searched for words to say. What should she say? It was not a good thing. She cannot say that it was good.
She kept her silence.
As soon as Rory got home, she was greeted by Penny and the other ladies. They wanted to know how Dorothy was doing and Rory talked to them sitting in the living room.
Derick entered the house and he pointed at Rory. "You are jealous, aren’t you?" he smirked.
He finally figured out why Rory is acting angry with him. He used to hate Lennon all the time and he used to pamper her a lot and care for her alone. And for the past day or two, after knowing about Sidney’s cheating, he is spending a lot of time with Lennon.
And that made this little thing jealous.
He was relieved that she is not thinking that he has anything to do with the photographs. He was sure that she does not think he took the pictures because otherwise, she wouldn’t have accepted his help.
Jealous?
Rory didn’t even understand what he meant. She wanted to flip the bird seeing his stupid smile, but she decided not to consider the elders in the house. And she did not want to spoil her mood thinking about Derick.
She "accidentally" left her phone in the living room and got to her room with Ellie and her burner phone. After putting Ellie in the crib, she dialed Ian using her burner phone.
She hoped that he answers the call when she calls from an unknown number.
She let out a sigh of relief when he answered the call. "Thank goodness!" she said.
"Rory?" Ian questioned from the other end.
"Yes... It is me... I thought you wouldn’t answer an unknown call."
"I figured you might call from~"
"Wait, wait..."Rory interjected him. "Please find a safe spot. You might be hacked or..."
"Calm down, Rory...." Ian soothed her. "I routinely check my phone and computer for hacks. I have a special security team~"
"What if they are compromised?" Rory questioned. "It does not hurt to be careful."
Ian wanted to laugh at Rory. But her worries might not be unfounded. When she asked him to investigate that guy, he thought that she’s being mental. He almost didn’t do what she asked of him.
And everything looked impeccable superficially. But when he dug deeper, he found that nothing is how it appears.
He walked away from his phone and computer. "I did what you asked of me. There are definitely a lot of inconsistencies. I’ll update you after I finish investigating as a whole. Rory, be careful. He is very dangerous. He probably is psychopathic... Don’t go confront him alone. I’ll talk to~"
"No! No!" Rory stopped him. "Don’t tell anyone, Ian. He cannot know that I am doubting him."
"Rory, you are not doing anything stupid, are you?" Ian asked.
"Of course, not. I asked for my grandmother’s help. I think she is pretending to be sick. She was a spy, after all!" Rory lied to her teeth.
"Fine then," Ian said. He sounded convinced and Rory got relaxed.
They all might think that they are protecting her by asking her to stay put. But she would be endangering lives if she sits on her thumb. She has a good chance to lure him out and she is going to use it.
No one can hurt Liam!
"I am ending the call. Don’t call me at this number. I’ll call you if I need anything. Call my phone. You know what to do," Rory said and ended the call.
She kept the phone hidden along with the photographs. These photographs are the biggest evidence she has against that guy. She cannot lose it.
She walked out of her room and saw Sidney standing at Lennon’s door. Bowing down she looked contemplative. She was staying in the guest bedroom the entire time and Rory didn’t know why she is there now.
Well, whatever!
