Chapter 121: Terrifying Truth

"You know who is trying to frame me, don’t you?" Liam stepped closer to Mrs. Delport.

Mrs. Delport said nothing but he could see her trying hard to meet with his eyes.

"You are hiding it from me, why?" He shouted.

"Don’t speak nonsense, boy. Step aside," Mrs. Delport tried to get out of the kitchen.

Liam blocked her.

"Why? Are you working with that person? Why do you want me to get framed? It is jake, isn’t it? It must be him... You made him work for me and~"

"Watch your words, young man," Mrs. Delport found a way to slip past him.

"Stop!" Liam walked behind Mrs. Delport. But she was not stopping.

He wanted to shout at her but he minded his voice as he did not want to awaken his wife and daughter.

"Help me, please..." he begged.

He was scared. He did not want to face the consequences of a double murder when he did not do anything. But more than that, he feared for his family. He did not want his daughter to be known as the murderer’s daughter. And with Rory’s spicy demeanor, she will cause fights and...

"I won’t survive prison... I won’t. Rory would still be there for me. She’d wait for me and would do her best to protect me. But I don’t want that life for her. I wouldn’t want to leave a negative legacy for my daughter. I would not let it happen. I will fight... I will... Even if it is you... even if I..."

"Good for you, Fitzwilliam. You don’t think that dying is the best option. I appreciate that. I am happy you got over that manipulated thought," Mrs. Delport said and opened the door of Agnes’ room.

Liam followed behind her but stopped by the door. He didn’t find it appropriate to enter Agnes’ room.

"Ma’am, your morning~" Mrs. Delport dropped the tray and ran to the bed. "Ma’am! Are you alright?"

Liam peeped inside the room. He saw Agnes gasping for breath.

"Call 911! Hurry!"

Mrs. Delport shouted and Liam got his phone and called the emergency services. He saw Mrs. Delport giving Agnes first aid and within five minutes, the first responders arrived.

The EMT’s initial assessment was that Agnes had suffered another stroke while she was asleep. They didn’t give any information about her condition and immediately wanted to take her to the hospital.

Liam wrapped his arm around Rory’s shoulder as she tried to muffle her cries. She’s been crying non-stop ever since she heard the sound of the sirens. She wanted to go with her grandma in the ambulance, but Mrs. Delport asked them to stay at home.

"She’ll be okay..." he pulled her to a hug. "We can visit her afterward..."

"It’s because..." Rory sniffed. "I doubted her and..."

"No, no..." Liam rubbed her back. "Don’t think that way. Words cannot hurt her, Cherry."

"Mrs. Delport told me that another stroke could be fatal for her, Fizzy. What should I do?" Rory could not stop her tears.

Even she was surprised by her reaction. She never thought that she would cry this much for her grandmother.

"Come on, Cherry..." Liam wiped her cheeks with his sleeves. "She is the iron lady. A simple stroke won’t take her! Believe... Believe everything will turn out okay. It will..."

"Yeah?" Rory scoffed. "If only it was that easy!"

-----

Rory waited for Mrs. Delport’s call. She said she would call her after the surgery. She mentioned that her grandmother was taken to surgery and the situation was not looking very positive. Rory hoped that the surgery goes well.

The doctors were not very positive considering her age and her history. With her having vascular dementia, having another stroke is going to make everything worse.

Rory cooked lunch for Mrs. Delport and Liam went to the hospital to deliver the lunch. Of course, Mrs. Delport was very defensive and told him that she could have eaten in the cafeteria and asked him to not bring dinner.

The surgery was not over yet and it only made Rory panic when it was evening.

"It’s the lawyer," Liam pointed at his phone.

Rory panicked more. And to her worst fear, Liam started to panic more the more he was listening to the lawyer.

"What now?" she asked. She truly did not have the strength to listen to any bad news, but if bad news is what she is going to hear, what other choice does she have other than to harden up?

"They’ve found some part... tissue of the fetus... Allison’s..." Liam poured himself a glass of whiskey from the bar. "The DNA... it was partially mine...whatever that means..."

"What?" Rory’s heart jumped out of her chest. "Liam, how is that possible?"

She could not think. She tried to remember the science classes she barely attended in the past. For someone’s DNA to partially match with someone else, they should be related.

"And some friend of Allison stated to the agents that I forced Allison one night when she was asleep. Apparently, this friend is willing to testify under oath. The lawyer says that they will be readying an arrest warrant for me right now... at least for r-ra- F*ck this! I will never hurt a woman! What is happening?"

Liam banged his hands on the counter. The glass in his hand broke and he started to bleed.

"Calm down, Fizzy... Please...." Rory hugged his back. He was so stiff and trembling. Rory did not know if it was anger or fear. She spoke in a soothing tone. "It’s okay... Don’t hurt yourself."

After he calmed down a bit, Rory got the first aid box and helped him with the wound. His hand was bleeding a lot and seeing his blood, Rory realized something.

"That person should have somehow messed with the evidence, Fizzy. And that friend must be lying. Otherwise..." she paused and looked at him.

"It is not that easy to mess with the evidence locker in federal custody, Cherry. Unless that person works for the FBI or..."

Could it be Derick..?

"Or..." Rory looked at Liam. "Do you get it, Liam? For him to share DNA with you, he should be related to you."

"Derick... He’s my cousin. And he works for them. He could have~"

"Seriously, Fizzy?" Rory let out a sigh.

She really hated to say it to him. She wanted him to figure it out himself. But judging by his thinking process, he will never get there.

"Fizzy..." she held his hand. Her lips went dry and she wetted them. She could not compose her pounding heart. She really hoped he could get it himself.

"What is it, Cherry? Why are you looking at me like that? You are scaring me. Tell me what you think!"

"Fizzy, you are not related to Derick... Or anyone from the Roberts family..."

A tear drop rolled down from her cheeks. She watched his face that donned a panicked expression turning flat and pale out of shock. His hand trembled and she held them tightly.

"It can’t be anyone from the Roberts’ family. And if Allison was attacked when she was asleep... It...goes with what happened to..."

"My mother..." Liam whispered and slumped on the couch. "Oh, God! Oh, God! Oh, my frigging..."

His voice trembled.

"So what? Is he my father? The one who is r*ping and killing all these women is my father?" He shouted holding Rory’s shoulders.

Rory shook her head. She did not know what to tell him. "It could also be your half-brother or half-uncle or... anyone related to that man..."

Liam scratched his head.

"Does he know who I am... and he targets me?" Liam asked. He could not believe everything. How is this even possible?

"It’s...It should be the case," Rory sat near Liam’s feet.

"Why would he do that? Ruining my parents’ life, ruining my life... All for what?"

"I don’t know, Fizzy... I am not even sure if it is the case... But... what if it’s vengeance or..."

"It can’t be Jake then..." Liam said.

"Jake? Your Personal Assistant?" she asked.

"Yeah..." Liam nodded and told her about the phone call in the morning.

He wanted to tell her about that, but as they were thinking about Agnes, he forgot about that.

"Tell the lawyer about this. Who knows? Jake could be an accessory for those murders. Jake probably is the one framing you. Who else would be apt for it?" She asked.

"Yeah... But Mrs. Delport..." Liam said and sank into his thoughts.

Mrs. Delport talked to him about getting manipulated to think that death is better. But he never remembered talking to anyone about death or his troubles.

What did she mean by that?

"She what?" Rory asked. But Liam was in his thoughts. He didn’t hear her.

Rory gently massaged his legs. He loved it when she does that. She was stressed to the max with everything happening around her.

"Oh, Cherry... I cannot even tell the agents that I am getting framed, now!" Liam said suddenly.

"Why not? It’s the truth!" Rory was shocked. That is the only way that Liam could be helped. Why can’t he say the truth?

"Cherry, don’t you see... If I say that I am framed, then I must tell them about my mother...that she was...forced and that I... I am not a Roberts... "

Rory went blank. She did not think about that!

Some truths truly liberate. But some truths are terrifying.
