Chapter 122: Getting No Help
"I think we should talk about it with your father. He should hear it from us. Let’s visit them...After dinner..." Rory said after a short pause. "Let them have their dinner in peace."
Liam sighed. Of course, she will be worried about everyone. That’s what she does. She cares for everyone who loves her. And that is why he loves her. She could do that so easily while it is hard for him.
And he thought she was right. Sparing other issues, he should talk to his father about this. He had a feeling that his father wouldn’t care about anything else and would ask him to do whatever to save himself from prison.
Prison... If he is "proved" as a serial killer, he might even get the death penalty if not, he would at least get life in prison with no possibility of parole.
He is starting his life right now. He has figured out what life is and what family is just now. It was late, but just when he imagined a happy family, he is facing this tribulation.
If the lawyer thinks they are going to arrest him for sure...
He shivered in fright. He did not want to lose it all.
"Rory," Liam held her hand. "Why don’t you stay in your homeland for a while, huh? You can return after everything is settled. I promise I will make sure to put up a brave fight."
Rory smiled and kissed his hand. "I know you will fight, Fizzy. You must. But regarding my leaving, we have already talked about it and..." she stood up. "I’m not leaving you alone."
She walked to the kitchen counter to pick up her phone. Liam followed her with his eyes.
"They won’t leave you alone, Cherry. It would spoil your mood and..."
"I won’t burst off in front of the media and spoil your image or make everything complicated, Fizzy. If that’s what you mean. I know I might flare up easily, but I’ve learned the hard way to keep my emotions to myself. I’m still not better at it, but I will try my best."
"I don’t care if you punch those b@stards with the cameras and stupid questions, Cherry. But I know that you don’t like that kind of attention. I don’t want you to suffer."
"We’ve been through this, Fizzy. What do you think? That I will eat and sleep in peace if am away from you? That’s not going to happen. At least when we are near, we can console each other; hug each other. I am not changing my mind, Fizzy. I know it is going to be bad. But I am not leaving you to suffer alone."
Liam let out a deep sigh. He could see that she has decided for herself and she is not going to change her mind. If she changes her mind in the future, she can always take a break.
But his selfish heart could not help but be happy that she would be by his side. She alone would multiply his confidence a thousand-fold.
Rory was about to call Mrs. Delport but she received a call from Mrs. Delport before that. She informed that the surgery was over and the doctors could talk about the success of the surgery only after her grandma wakes up.
Rory did not find that to be a good sign.
"Shall I come stay in the hospital for the night, Mrs. Delport?" She asked.
Her purpose of the visit was to take care of her grandmother. And she cannot let Mrs. Delport handle everything.
"No, that won’t be necessary. You cannot do anything here. The doctors and nurses won’t allow anyone inside the ICU for the time being. You stay in the house and take care of~"
"About that, Mrs. Delport," Rory interjected her.
She understood that Mrs. Delport is not lying when she says that no visitors would be allowed to visit a person just out of a brain surgery. So she cannot see her grandmother even if she wants to. But holding this fort? She was scared to stay in this house alone, even if she was with Liam.
"We are planning on visiting Liam’s house for a visit. We got a call from the lawyer and he said there is a chance Liam would be arrested and..."
"Yeah..." Mrs. Delport sounded like she was not interested in hearing her speak. But considering that she was in the hospital, Rory did not want to make any quick judgments.
"I don’t want to stay here alone, Mrs. Delport. Should I lock the door or are there some other security measures that need to be activated?" Rory asked.
"Is this about that incident last night, Rory? Why can’t you stay in the house for the night?" Mrs. Delport asked.
Now she seemed into the conversation.
"No... That’s not it..." Rory wetted her lips. "I am scared to sleep here. That’s it."
"Scared? What scares you? This is your house! What is there to be scared about?" Mrs. Delport asked.
The sounds of other people Rory was hearing faded and Rory figured that Mrs. Delport must have moved to some quiet place. The odd interest of Mrs. Delport in this topic did make some alarm bells ring in her head.
"It’s nothing serious... I just get sleep paralysis when I am here, sometimes..." she added not to scare that concerned lady.
"Sleep paralysis? Since when?" Mrs. Delport asked.
"Umm... Mrs. Delport, we have to talk to Liam’s parents about the recent developments. And I might have to travel with Liam back to LA sooner than I anticipated. I am sorry I couldn’t stay with grandma for some more time. But I hope she will understand. I have to be with my husband when someone is trying to ruin him when he did~"
"Rory, that is your home. You don’t have to be scared to be there. It is the most secure place in~"
"I know, Mrs. Delport. I know I am well protected. But I am worried about my husband. My child’s father is here going through a tough time and I really cannot worry about this stupid house that still gives me chills when I enter, alright?"
Rory ended the call, wiping the corner of her eyes. She was hurt that Mrs. Delport would worry about leaving the house empty rather than listen to what she has to say about Liam’s situation. She has been silently saying that she does not care about Liam.
It pissed her off.
"It’s okay..." Liam hugged her from behind. "Calm down... She is in the hospital probably worried to death about her grandmother. We cannot trouble her now with this... You know that..."
Liam spoke in a soothing tone. Rory said nothing and nodded. She would have agreed with him if Mrs. Delport was not interested in anything. But she was only not interested in listening to her talking about Liam.
"Let’s leave, Fizzy... I think this house will have enough booby traps to protect itself," she said.
Liam watched her walking away in a large gait and rubbed his forehead. His heart fell as he realized that he does not have the support of Agnes Roberts. And she is now sicker and he really cannot expect her to help him in any way.
He has to face it all by other means.
-----
"Did they find a partial DNA that matched with Liam’s or did they find DNA with Liam’s partial genes?" Derick asked.
"There is a difference?" Rory asked.
Derick rolled his eyes. And she understood without him speaking that he is blaming her for not paying attention in school.
"Oh, come on! What happened, happened. Explain it to me..." Rory asked.
"If they find a partial DNA and found it matches Liam’s then it means that it might be Liam’s. That means Liam’s DNA was on Allison’s body. But if they find Liam’s partial DNA on Allison, it could be the fetus’ or it could be someone else’s entirely. Only in this case, it would be someone related to Liam."
"Oh?" Rory understood it a bit. "So the former is bad. The latter is better?"
Derick shook his head. "The latter is also bad because that DNA might belong to Liam’s child, that would have been in Allison’s body."
"But Liam’s child won’t be inside Allison’s body because Liam never slept with her," Rory said with surety.
"If you are sure of it..." Derick patted her head. He noticed that there was a shadow on the photo frames on the stairs, and cleared his throat.
"Come for a walk with me, Rory."
Rory followed him out. She took a look back. Liam was still in his father’s office. Chloe was in the kitchen with Dorothy. Skyla and Chubster were playing in the living room. Ellie was with Liam and she heard no shouting or screaming from inside the office.
She was relieved.
"Does he know that his stepmother is pregnant?" Derick asked.
"Huh?" Rory only then realized that she still hasn’t broken that news with Liam. "I...don’t think he will react badly..." she voiced out her hopes.
Even she could not believe that he would not cause a scene. But he has changed a lot in these few days. The way he is acting with his family has mellowed a lot. Would he think that he has no say because Frank is not his father?
Rory let out a sigh. It appears that happiness is getting far away from her.
