Chapter 117: The Visit

Chapter 117: The Visit

Rory walked around the newly designed garden behind her grandmother’s room. She had no idea why she was even here.

The moment she entered her grandmother’s house, Mrs. Delport got Ellie from her and led Leroy to her grandmother’s office. And she was left alone.

Well, whatever!

Rory took a walk around the backyard to visit the chicken coop. It has been a while since she visited the chickens.

-----

"I was very worried hearing about your health, Mrs. Roberts. I apologize for not finding the time to visit you~"

"Thank you very much, Justice Roberts," Agnes interjected him.

Leroy cleared his throat rather awkwardly. Agnes might just have been polite with him, but why did he hear her asking him to stop meandering and come to the point of his visit?

Was it his mind playing tricks?

He stood up and placed a brown sealed envelope on the coffee table in front of Agnes. Mrs. Delport picked it up and went through the contents.

Her face went pale. Agnes looked at Leroy.

"My son... brought those pictures to me ten years ago. I forgot the exact date...but it is mentioned on one of those..." Leroy paused as Mrs. Delport passed the pictures to Agnes.

Mrs. Delport’s hands were shaking. That was an odd sight to behold. Nothing shakes that woman. But the content of that pictures is terrible. Leroy hoped Agnes does not have another stroke seeing the pictures.

Agnes went through the pictures one by one.

Leroy continued his explanation. "I’ve never seen my son that shaken before or after. He was on the verge of..." he sighed. "He said he found those pictures under his bed. He didn’t know what to do with them and so he brought it straight to me. I’ve kept them in my safe for all these years."

"You should be glad no one searched your locker, Justice..." Agnes’ voice was meek, showing her sickly state. But there was an undertone of danger in her eyes.

If looks could kill, he would be shredded to pieces by now. And he would have accepted such fate. And he truly is glad no one searched his locker. He would have been charged with the most hideous crime.

"It looks unbothered, those pictures... I hope they never saw the light?" Mrs. Delport said.

She was out of her initial shock and was back to her interrogative demeanor. She even picked up a fruit knife.

"I’ll be honest. Derick had gone through each of those pictures. I looked at one and that almost killed me. I couldn’t bear to look at another. I would have killed my son if I did not trust that this behavior is completely beneath him. He was in so much shock I knew he was not pretending. He was about to start his life and pictures of this nature would have ended his life. He said those pictures would have~"

He cleared his throat. Both women were glaring at him. He was scared but he wanted to speak his piece.

"I suspected Liam. Derick thought so too. He could have tried to frame Derick to keep Rory from him. We all knew how jealous he was of their closeness. But then we both agreed that he is too possessive of her to try this lowly method. He would have killed Derick before humiliating her like this... Also the angle of those pictures... Liam wouldn’t have been that tall then."

He started to panic more as no one spoke.

"You have to understand this! My son’s life would have ended, and his relationship with Rory would have shattered... He would have become a pariah..."

"And so you hid the pictures to protect your son? I can ruin his and your life even now!" Agnes shouted. Her voice became lower and her eyes were menacing. "You should have brought these pictures to me immediately when you found them. Then we could have stopped~"

"Stopped?" Leroy’s eyes widened. "Oh, no..." he shook his head and clutched his heart. "No, don’t tell me... You found him, right? Tell me you stopped him... Please... she was a baby then..."

Leroy’s eyes watered.

"Yeah, she was. And yet you chose to protect your grown son. You could have given the same explanation then and I would have believed you. I would have protected my granddaughter if I suspected something was going on!"

"But I thought..." Leroy wiped the sweat dripping on his forehead. "I wanted you to see their relationship with your own eyes so you could believe Derick wouldn’t have done it. I wanted you to see Liam’s character and form your opinion. I thought no one would dare to touch the granddaughter of the Agnes Roberts."

"Ha... The Agnes Roberts..." Agnes laughed. Her eyes watered. "I was a ghost, a gust of wind that brought changes. Do you think everyone knows me? Do you think that pervert cared who her grandparents were? Or did he take it as a challenge?"

"No... No... No..." Leroy could not accept what he was told. "She was a baby... She’s still a baby... What have I done? I could have at least warned you or I could have had an eye on her... What have I done!"

Leroy started lamenting. And then there was silence in the room.

"She... how did she handle it?" Leroy asked.

"She forgot about it...somehow...And..."

"Who is he?" Leroy asked. "I am going to kill him!"

"He is one of the untouchables, Leroy. You know who they are... Those pieces of scums who would gain immunity by...those smart ones the government will protect even if they are low lives who deserve more than death." Mrs. Delport said.

"It can’t be... Is he on a witness protection program or something?" Leroy asked.

"Kind of, but on a much higher level. He provides intelligence still... Those juicy stock options those politicians invest in... He has a hand in them choosing the best options. And they will not lose him. He is well connected." Mrs. Delport said.

"Oh? Oh..." Leroy’s face went pale. "It can’t be... It can’t be him, right? That son of a b*tch! Wasn’t it enough for him to ruin our family? My mother... Ugh! How can you leave him walking on this God’s green earth?"

"Oh, you’re wrong if you assumed it was a Roberts, Justice Roberts," Agnes said.

"Oh?" Leroy blinked. "Then who is it?"

Mrs. Delport looked at Agnes and she went silent.

Leroy got angry. "How can you let this go? Are you sure it is not the same one trying to frame Liam now? Are you not going to help them?"

Agnes said nothing.

Leroy got angrier. "I don’t care anymore. I don’t care if I will be still a justice at the end of the year. I will not let my family get hurt. You sit tight following your silly protocols and aid the government in protecting those vile assets, Agnes! I care for no law or no rule!"

He stood up.

"I heard you were a psychopath and I did not believe them... But you are a psychopath, Agnes. If you could sit on your thumb and watch your only granddaughter suffer, you are worse than that! F*ck you! I used to respect you!"

"Watch what you are saying, Mr. Leroy Roberts!" Mrs. Delport stood up.

"Do you think she forgot? How can someone forget that? You people are stupid and heartless. I will find him myself, and I will put a bullet in between his eyes for daring to touch my baby!" Leroy shouted.

*Bang*

Everyone looked at the door as it banged open.

"What is happening here? Are you shouting?" Rory asked.

She did not want to enter, but she entered anyway. She has never seen or heard uncle Leroy getting this angry before.

Leroy cleared his throat and took a seat. Mrs. Delport passed Ellie to Agnes and walked to the bar to pour drinks. Rory could sense that the tension in that room could be cut with a knife. But since no one asked her to leave, she did not.

She took a seat.

"Where is your husband?" Agnes asked.

"He’s... he’s leaving for LA today...His apartment got broken in. And the cops ask him there," Rory said the truth.

She had decided against telling her grandma anything. She refused to help her before. Well, she did not say that she will not help, but she did not offer help either. So Rory wanted to keep her pride and not tell her grandmother anything.

But then she did want to get all the help she can get. If her grandmother is powerful enough to help her, she won’t give up. She will plead to have her grandmother’s help. For Liam’s sake.

"His apartment was broken in?" Leroy asked.

He looked shocked. Rory nodded. "Yes, uncle. The cops are asking him there."

Leroy opened his mouth to say something but Agnes spoke first.

There was no change in Agnes’ expression. She was calm as always. "Come stay with Grandma for a couple of days, Rory. I need Fitzwilliam to help me with something."

"But the cops asked Liam to~"

"Rory," Leroy interjected her. "Listen to your grandma. Call Liam to pack his stuff and get here. Go..."

"...Okay..." Rory did not understand why he is asking her not to listen to the cops. What if it causes trouble?

Leroy smirked looking at Agnes.

Oh, I was wrong about her!
