The Secret Obsession of the CEO
Chapter 116: The Stalker

Chapter 116: The Stalker

Rory answered the phone call. But the moment she heard the call at the other end, she let out a sigh.

"Megan, I’m busy. What do you want?" She asked.

Liam came to her side. He still didn’t know the details of Derick’s divorce, but even before that, Rory hated that woman. He also found something odd about her. She appeared so fake when she smiled and pretended to care about them.

"Oh, I’m just checking how you are doing..." she chuckled. "I always found your husband a bit...psychotic. But murder..?"

She spoke in a singsong manner and that annoyed Rory so much.

"Stop stalking us, Megan. Mind your business. I’ll take care of mine," Rory ended the call, or she tried to.

Her stupid phone screen acted up and the call didn’t disconnect.

"When you damage other people’s life, karma is bound to~"

Rory almost stabbed her phone screen for the call to end.

"Oh, Karma sure is a b*tch, Megan. And you have no right to talk about it!" she screamed at the phone.

Liam hugged her. She leaned on his shoulder with a pout.

"Oh, I hate her, Liam... I despise her!"

"I know..." Liam patted her back.

He was surprised that she ended the call before going off on her. But he could see how much she is willing to do for his sake.

"If only Derick permitted me, I would have destroyed her! He’s soft, Liam... I don’t understand how he could let her go like this..."

"Hmm... He must have loved her very much. He never is soft on me, right?" Liam chuckled.

Rory kissed his cheek. "He is not soft on me either. But I know that he loves me... He just now said that some men might expect, you know, "favors" as in..."

"Hmm..." Liam pulled her close and kissed her head.

"I know I am pretty, Liam. But it disgusts me when some see me as just a pretty woman. I cannot change how I look...It is one of the reasons I didn’t find a job. Even when I had a protruding pregnant belly, and even when I have Ellie with me, some men, they..."

"Don’t mind them," Liam rubbed her back. "Don’t change yourself for them... Although it is probably late for me to say that..."

There is no way around it. She is very pretty; otherworldly pretty. And she matured a lot early than other girls. Even when she was thirteen, she looked hotter than most of the seniors in school.

She always got attention from others. And not all attention was good.

She used to be very respectful and soft-spoken. She was very feminine although she acted tomboyish too. But something changed inside her after a year of staying in this town. The constant attention and the teasing about her hair changed her.

She started to talk back and get back at everyone who angered her. He found her acts acceptable and he supported her. It was another one of the reasons he never told her his feelings.

He didn’t want to be seen as the other men and boys who had "feelings" for her. She complained that they only liked her body. And her attitude deterred most of them. Although she liked having friends, she found being alone better than the alternative.

He should have been there for her. He has hurt her a lot in the past year. He didn’t realize how important he is to her. And without him, she has changed some more as she struggled to survive. She has lost her confidence a lot.

"People change, Fizzy..." Rory said. "And I am- we are young. We still have a lot to figure out, don’t we?"

"Yeah..." Liam rested his head on hers.

Their eyes ended up on the crib. The baby was sleeping.

"It is nice..." Liam said.

"What is nice?" Rory asked. It was odd Liam found something to be pleased about.

"This..." he held her hand. "Us... The baby, me, you... talking to you like this...Growing up with you... Everything..."

"It is nice," Rory agreed.

Not a lot of girls get to see their husbands growing from a boy through their adolescence and watch them become a man. There is a pleasant feeling to knowing that she contributed in some way for him to become the man he is today and the greatness he will achieve tomorrow.

But then Sidney’s words came to her mind. Her smile vanished. She sighed.

"What?" Liam asked. He didn’t have to look at her to know that she is not in a great mood.

"Nothing," Rory tried to stand up.

She did not want to talk to him all of a sudden. That is what doubt does. It sucks away the happiness like a parasite and multiplies misery in the mind.

"No, stop!" Liam pulled her to sit. She stumbled and struggled to get out of his hold but he forcefully made her sit on his lap. "When you say it is nothing, I know it is absolutely nothing. There is something."

"NO! Let go!" Rory tried to stand, but he hugged her tightly.

"I am not letting you go!" Liam hugged her tightly and pressed his cheek on her back.

Rory stopped struggling. She realized that she is getting angry at Liam for what he might do in the future. And that is unfair to him.

Liam’s hold loosened as she stopped struggling.

"Sidney talked to me the other day. She told me to get prepared for the life of the wife of a CEO. She insinuated that I might prepare myself for you cheating on me and... I am not blaming Sidney. She probably wanted to... I get it. Which billionaire is having a long marriage, right? At least, I will get a hefty sum after the di~"

"Don’t say divorce..." Liam’s hands around her abdomen trembled and his voice shook. "We are not divorcing. I know I am not the model husband and I gave no proof that I can handle temptations well, but still... Cherry... Don’t say that you will divorce me..."

"Oh, I am not going to stay with you if you cheat on me. That’s for sure," Rory said. She wanted to make it clear although she was not sure of it.

She should not be that desperate, right?

"That’s fair..." Liam said.

"It is fair," Rory repeated.

He stayed silent for some time and Rory smiled. She could sense that he is pouting although she could not see him.

He spoke after some silence. "But don’t leave me. If you find out that I am looking at another woman, slap me hard and...and...do something! Anything to make me see sense...like how you stopped the divorce now."

"Oh, why should I be the one working hard in our relationship all the time? Why don’t you try a bit?" she asked.

"That’s fair..." Liam said. He could not refute her. He did not trust himself a lot. But he decided to work harder to become the man suitable for her.

"But don’t leave me..." He added, holding her tightly. He placed his ear over her back and took in a deep whiff. "I won’t survive on my own, Cherry. I know how to make money. That’s it. Other than that I know nothing else. I am useless and~"

"Alright, alright! Stop your pity party," Rory chuckled and turned to face him. "I won’t leave you. Unless you ask me to get out of your life, I won’t leave you."

"Thank you!" Liam hugged her. "Don’t forget your promise!"

’I won’t," Rory patted his head. She did not want him stressed.

She looked at the crib. Ellie was sleeping still.

"Do you think there is something wrong with our baby? Why is she not waking up even when we are shouting right beside her?" she asked.

She heard that parents maintained absolute silence around their babies to make sure that they don’t wake up. But she noticed that Ellie sleeps better with noises around her than in silence.

"Maybe she likes to hear our voices..." Liam said. He looked at the baby. He could not take his eyes away. "She’s so adorable... How did we make her, Cherry... How did she come out of someone like me..." he let out a deep breath.

Rory kissed his cheek with a chuckle. He says this often. And she wonders the same too. "She’s an angel," she said.

Liam nodded. He then held her hand. "I am not going to give up on our family ever again, Cherry. Never. I will kill myself before~"

Rory stopped him from speaking further with a kiss. "Don’t talk about killing yourself, ever, Fizzy. Whatever trouble comes our way, we will face it, together."

"Together," he agreed with her.

"Ah, I almost forgot! I have to bring uncle Leroy to meet my grandma. I have to get ready!" Rory got up and walked to the closet.

Liam looked out at the window. Thinking about the past made him remember some distant memory.

He was still in middle school then and he remembered Derick coming to him one day. He looked a bit shaken and he asked him a lot of weird questions. A lot was related to Rory. Although he did not remember it now very clearly, he remembered Derick mumbling something under his breath.

’Could it be a stalker?’

He decided to talk to Derick and find out if he remembers.

Why did he think that there was a stalker?
