The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 106: Back Home
Chapter 106: Back Home
Seeing Rory’s hesitation, Liam answered her phone. He didn’t say much and she didn’t hear what Derick was saying at the other end. Rory observed Liam’s face to guess what the phone call was about.
Seeing Liam’s face turning pale, she clutched his shirt as she knew they are facing more struggles.
"Uncle is arriving today," Liam said ending the call.
"That’s it?" Rory asked.
"Yes," he hissed. "Did you not hear, Rory? Eldest Uncle is here! Even Derick is panicking. He didn’t expect his father to attend the wedding." He shook her shoulders.
Seeing her unimpressed face, he let out a sigh. "Oh, right! You’re Rory. Why am I even talking to you?" he mumbled and stood up.
Rory chuckled. Next to Grandpa Roberts, everyone is scared of Uncle Leroy. She didn’t know what is so scary about him though.
He has a gentle voice and a smiling countenance. He calls her angel because she "sings like one". He loves to keep the family in the living room. Either they will be watching movies, or they will be playing board games. His wife Penelope is a darling. She loves laughing at her husband’s jokes and they are very adorable together.
Aunt Penny would play the piano and Uncle Leroy would ask her to sing. She loved it when they visited. She would feel like a superstar when Uncle Leroy is around.
"Strap the baby in. We are leaving," Liam grumbled seeing the excitement on her face.
"Okay," Rory controlled her smile and she gently placed Ellie in the carrycot.
How adorable!
On their way home, Rory could see that Liam was in deep thoughts. She thought he might be worrying about something seeing the frown line between his brows. She didn’t disturb his thoughts.
As they got to the dirt road leading to their home, Liam turned at Rory. "If eldest Uncle asks for a movie night and if he suggests for everyone to watch ’The Lord of the Rings for the hundredth time, tell him that you are traumatized and you cannot watch it. He will change the movie."
Rory wanted to laugh out loud. But she controlled herself. He didn’t have a problem with watching that movie ninety-nine times in the past and he loved reciting the dialogues. But just after she revealed to him that Aragorn was her first crush, he suddenly got bored of that trilogy.
"What am I traumatized about?" She asked.
"You know... something... Gollum... Say you are traumatized and... he will help find that creature and your ring soon."
"Oh, will he?" Rory widened her eyes.
Liam turned to look at her. And he grumbled knowing that she will not listen to him. "F*ck you, Rory!"
"Why?" Rory laughed. "If it is not that movie, he will insist on watching some horror movie. I could manage those gory ones but I can never handle those with ghosts and possessions/exorcisms. I am not f*cking traumatized by Gollum. I punched him in the face, remember?"
Liam snarled at her and she continued laughing. "Aragorn, sweet Aragorn...Here I come!" she hummed a happy tune.
"Oh, shut up!" he grunted, but she did not stop laughing.
As if he could make her shut up.
When they reached home, they saw that Uncle Leroy has just reached home too. Frank was helping in getting the luggage from the cab. Derick was kissing his mother on the cheek.
Julia was standing by the stairs nervously, clutching her skirt. She was unnecessarily correcting her perfectly done hair and blush were on her cheeks.
Wow! So this is how one would feel when they are meeting their in-laws? Why did I never feel that way?
As someone known to everyone, she did not feel a little bit nervous after their wedding was announced. But she did feel a bit awkward when she got down the stairs after their wedding night.
They did nothing, but... she felt a bit awkward meeting his family afterward.
"Rory!"
"Sweetie!"
The excited voices of Leroy and Penny snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Where’s the baby?" Leroy asked and like an excited boy, he peeked inside the car.
"Honey, I think she is sleeping. Let’s not disturb her," Penny pulled Leroy by his shirt. When Leroy took a step back, Penny occupied his place and kept on staring at Ellie.
"Look at your aunt!" Leroy complained to Rory and tried to push her out of the way.
Maybe Ellie realized she was getting stared at, she woke up.
"She’s awake...Oooh... look at this cutie..." Penny pushed Leroy with her hips and got the baby first.
"Oooh! Look at her... Look, honey... she’s smiling...Oh, no... don’t get near! She is getting terrified of you!"
"She is not terrified of me! She’s terrified of your clown voice... What is that even..?"
"Oh, getaway. She is not one of your aides! Stop scaring her!"
"I’m not the one scaring her! It told you..."
The couple fought their way back in. Rory looked at Ellie. She was not even scared. She was just confused a bit as she didn’t know who these new people were.
"As I said, why are you even scared of him?" Rory asked.
Liam glared at her and got to the truck to get their luggage.
"Look, she wants to come to me. Give her to me, honey," Leroy was smiling but his annoyance was expressed by his tone.
"Oh, Rory, how are you feeling now?" Grandma Roberts walked to Rory and held her cheeks.
"I’m perfectly fine, grandma. What are you cooking for dinner?" she walked in with Dorothy.
Liam watched Rory standing in the kitchen with his grandma and she was already offering to help her. She learned to cook even when she was in high school from his grandmother. She loved to cook and she is an awesome cook. Everyone loves her cooking.
He looked at the living room and it was lively. Ellie was sitting on Leroy’s belly and Penny was holding the hands of Derick’s fiancée Julia and was saying something. Both of them looked happy.
His dad and Claire were there too. Sidney was watching it all standing behind the stairs. He figured Uncle Lenny would be in his room, away from all this commotion.
Chubster and Skyla were trying to feed Spikes.
It was just a common site for him. But it used to annoy him. But today, he felt different.
"Need help?" Derick asked as he was staring blankly with the luggage in hand.
"No, I’m fine," Liam said. "I’m fine."
"Yeah... it will be fine..." Derick patted his shoulder.
"Board game!" Leroy shouted.
"Come join us," Derick said pointing at the living room. "You can replace it later."
Usually, Liam would say no immediately. But he didn’t want to this time. He wanted to join. "My wife will get annoyed if she sees the bag in the living room. I’ll leave this in our room first," Liam excused himself.
Rory really will kill him.
He got on the stairs skipping two steps at a time. He couldn’t wait to join the board game with his family. He felt like a boy again and couldn’t stop his happy humming. He threw the bag inside their room without even stepping in.
He was about to turn back, but he saw that his youngest uncle’s room was open. He decided to talk to him just out of courtesy. He peeked in and his uncle was sitting on the bed with his laptop. There was a frown line between his eyebrows.
He had a prickling feeling in his heart. With the recent events, the stock of LR Holdings is falling freely. He didn’t feel like having fun anymore when his uncle is in distress.
He knocked on the door.
"Ah, Liam..." Lenny looked at him. "Come in... come in..." he placed the laptop to his side and smiled. "So how is everything going? You’re not staying with Rory?" he asked.
"Umm, no, uncle... Rory got discharged," Liam said scratching the back of his head.
"That’s good. That’s good..." Lenny nodded.
"Yeah..." Liam said. For some reason, he could not meet his uncle in his eyes and he bowed his head.
There was silence for some time except for the sound of the ticking of the old clock in the room.
"Uncle, I am sorry... With everything happening around me... The losses..." Liam stuttered as he didn’t know what to say.
"You’ve put me in a tough spot, Liam," Lenny said. His voice was plain.
Liam’s heart skipped a beat. His uncle always speaks straightforwardly and it still scares him at times.
"If it was the CEO of any other company, I would have sacked him for sullying the name of LR Holdings and sued him."
"I know. I’m sorry..." Liam looked at him. He didn’t want to get fired. "I will understand if you want to fire me, though~"
"I am not firing you. We’re family, Liam!" Lenny interjected him.
Liam nodded. "I’m planning on hiring a lawyer and~"
He paused as he heard Leroy shouting for him. He gulped looking at Lennon.
"You can leave... I hear them calling for you. What is it? Board game this time?" Lenny’s face softened with a smile.
"Umm... no..." Liam shook his head. "I’ll sit with you and let’s discuss the losses we’ve incurred. There should be a way to get out!"
"That’s my boy!" Lenny smiled and there was pride.
Liam felt appreciated. This is why he loves his uncle.
