Chapter 105: More Troubles

Rory tried to push Liam away but seeing his poor little pout, she couldn’t refuse him. She sat on his lap and hugged him around his neck.

"I promise, Fizzy. We will face everything together from now on," she touched his nose with the tip of her nose.

"I too promise that I won’t go off on my own," Liam said.

"Hmm..." Rory caressed the back of her head as he kissed her.

"What about Allison?" she asked, stopping his unruly hand and trying to get inside her shirt.

"And, Fizzy... there must be some video footage that would exonerate you. And maybe there is some other suspect in that case. Otherwise, they would have investigated you more when Laura Brown disappeared."

"Maybe..." Liam agreed. That’s what he thought too. But now that the body is found, maybe their interrogation techniques will change.

"I am getting contacted by the detectives from that case, you know," he said.

"Oh, and you are...avoiding them?" Rory could figure it out just by his face. "You know what, Fizzy, you are making yourself more suspicious, dummy..."

She sighed.

"I’m sorry," he leaned on her shoulder.

When Derick said the same thing, he got mad but when she says it, it makes sense.

"We have to hire a lawyer," Rory said. "Oh, God! It’s going to cost us so much."

With the bind Liam is in, no ordinary lawyer could take up the case and win. They would have to go for bigger law firms that have the resources to handle a case of this magnitude.

And when the quality of the service they receive is high, the cost is going to be high too.

"Good thing I have millions, right?" Liam smiled.

But his face went a little pale. If they freeze his accounts and assets, he would be left with nothing.

"Yeah," Rory patted his cheek gently. "I should ask my grandmother for my money, if..."

Liam kissed her palm. She knows that his assets could get frozen. His dad is rich but not that rich. Also, he didn’t know if his father would be standing by his side when everything is out.

And as always, it is going to be Rory who will support him. But he knew that she was saving the money for emergencies or as an inheritance.

But he knew her. She would consider this an emergency. He wanted to feel sorry for himself. But he knew deep in his heart that getting out of this bind is the biggest help he could do to her and his family.

"Yeah," Rory sat straight as she figured out that she can arrange for the money. "We can do it. And... we have to look for a good criminal lawyer who is willing to take in your case."

"Hmm..." Liam gulped.

With evidence racked up against him, a lot of lawyers won’t get near him with a ten-foot pole.

"We’ll figure it out..."Rory had hoped.

She can ask Derick’s father. He is a judge and he would have the connections.

"We can ask Uncle Lenny," Liam said. He knew he will offer them any help they ask for.

"But should we involve him in this?" Rory did not think it was the very best idea.

Uncle Lenny has helped Liam a lot and they cannot bring him down by associating with him.

"Already the stocks are falling with the recent scandal with the post~"

"Did you post that picture because of my fight with Jennifer?" Rory asked.

"It was due for a long time. I never acknowledged you as my wife and I don’t know how the news about our divorce spread. I had to put an end to it," Liam said caressing her hair.

"Yeah, I figured that much..." Rory sighed. "But I am glad you did..." she hugged him. "And now we are together."

"You know, you could be called a manipulative person by those who don’t understand you. I was planning to leave you and you somehow used this as a means to keep me close," Liam said.

There are a lot of people who have said a lot about their relationship. By a lot of people, he means Derick. He called a lot of names for their relationship--toxic among one of them.

But manipulative? Who is manipulating who, right?

"That’s what the feds who are going to interrogate you will tell you. See, you wanted to make your vindictive wife happy. She was manipulative, she was jealous to see other women near you. And poor you fell in her trap!" she looked at him.

"And so on."

"But you have no involvement in any of this. Me too," Liam said.

But she makes sense, as always. He has heard that the feds have a way to get confessions from anyone. They will use all sorts of manipulations to get him to confess, even if he did not do the crime.

"Yeah, we know that. and we have to gather the proof. Fizzy, maybe we should gather evidence and find out the killer ourselves. That way, we can save you for sure."

Rory looked at Liam as he didn’t reply to her. He spoke after some time.

"I too seem manipulative, right? Like Derick said... I never~"

"But you are not," Rory interjected him. "Others don’t know you or me and us. I don’t care what they think about us. What matters is if we respect each other and love each other. Everything else is secondary. Everyone else’s opinion is worth nothing."

Liam nodded. He agreed with her. She is smart. He would have done a lot better if he didn’t stop listening to her.

"Uncle Lenny wouldn’t have access to criminal lawyers much, right? Let’s find another way," Rory said.

She didn’t know if the eldest uncle would offer help. He likes her and if she asks for help, he might. She decided to ask him about that at Derick’s wedding. He will attend this wedding, she hoped.

"And Allison?" she asked.

He could be charged in the Laura Brown case if there are no other suspects and if the right evidence is there. But all the evidence she could think of is circumstantial. A good lawyer will help him get out of it.

But it would be better if it never goes that far. The killing of a young woman with her whole life in front of her will invoke sympathy with the jurors and they mostly will decide emotionally rather than rationally.

Jurors are humans too, after all!

"Ah, yes. I met with Allison at the Riverside private airport. She was angry that I fired her," he paused seeing that Rory was confused.

"I fired her because I answered her call... the call she made to you."

Rory rolled her eyes.

So he answered my phone.

"Okay," she didn’t want want to know what Allison said. She can guess.

So, Fizzy fired Allison because she disrespected me?

"She threatened that she will tell everyone about everything that happened on May 5th. She even added that she would throw suspicion on me regarding Laura Brown’s murder. And..."

Rory bit her lips. This is not going to go well.

"I told her to do whatever she could do..." Liam gulped.

Seeing his hesitation, Rory’s heart started to pound. She knew she is going to hear more bad news. She glared at Liam.

"... if her tongue is still intact..." Liam scrunched his shoulders seeing Rory fisting her hands.

"Dear," Rory smiled and her smile didn’t reach her eyes. "Did you also by any chance tell her ever that you will pull out her fingernails?"

"No way!" Liam covered his mouth and his face went pale. "No way! How do you know?"

"Because I saw the photographs, Fizzy... And her nails were plucked out."

Liam bowed his head dejectedly. Rory patted his hand to console him. It appears that she could now see the motive of Allison’s murder if Liam was the killer. The cops are going to say that he killed Allison to cover up Laura Brown’s murder.

"...and..." Liam had more to say and she listened. "My SAK broke and I gave it to Jake for repair. I bet the cops got information about that by now. Cherry, if they find even a single mark on her body that was made by a SAK, they will accuse me of..." his voice shook.

Rory hugged him. And if there is a reason for suspicion, they will get the warrant to search his place and... What else will they find in his place?

"You are a jerk, Fizzy!" she punched his arm. "You are just a paper tiger. I know that. Others don’t and when you are mad, and when you talk as if you are a psychopath, you scare them! No see what your stupid temper brought us!"

Her voice shook. But then she realized something.

"Jake... your assistant... He will know all this, right? He had your itinerary and he probably was with you the whole time, right?" she asked.

"He was with me... most of the time. But... I remember sending him away because I wanted to take a nap..."

"You went to your apartment or somewhere with cameras, right?" Rory asked.

Liam nodded. "As far as I remember, I should be caught on cameras."

"That’s good... that’s good..." Rory patted his chest.

It was then she heard her phone ring. It was Derick. She didn’t know why but she was scared to answer his call.

Please... I don’t want any more troubles.
