Chapter 104: [Bonus Chapter]Facing Everything Together
Liam shrugged. He tried to be in contact with them, but it did not work out. When they heard that he was divorcing Rory, some wanted Rory’s number, and others wanted him to enjoy his bachelor life.
He could not agree with them. And he got busy running a business. His contacts got reduced to the investors and potential partners for his business. He didn’t want to have the fun they wanted. They mocked him for always being serious. They slowly grew apart.
"Doubtful... I lost contact with some of them and some are jealous I became a millionaire out of nowhere~"
"Ah... jealousy..." Rory sat beside him and held her hand. She already knew that the truth is going to be out. And she won’t blame those guys for speaking the truth.
"Fizzy, you did not become a millionaire out of nowhere, Fizzy. You worked hard for it. Even when we were in our senior year, you always wanted to start a business on your own to earn a lot and fast."
"Yeah..." Liam held her hand. "And you gave me the idea of starting an online clothing website for men. A website for men who want to be gentlemen..."
"I did. And everyone said that it won’t work out because there are already many clothing websites. But you put in the work and made it a success," she smiled from her heart.
His company now hosts a lot of luxury brands. He made it work with his planning and devotion. Nothing would make her happier than seeing him succeed.
"I...wanted to earn a lot to buy you a lot of gifts, Cherry," he said. He decided, to tell the truth, which he hid in his heart for a long time.
"Me? I don’t want your gifts, Fizzy," Rory said. Although she said it, she was flattered and as her heart pounded, it showed on her face as a beautiful blush.
Liam noticed her blush. He held her cheek and pulled her closer. "I wanted to buy you gifts using the money I earned... My money... I wanted to become a man and not dependent on the allowance sent by our families."
"Well..." Rory pushed him. "But you ended up divorcing me before..." she paused as she realized something.
He asked for a divorce after Laura Brown’s disappearance was announced and after they gave their statements to the cops. And that means...
"You wanted the divorce to keep me out of trouble, didn’t you, Fizzy? You had an inkling that something is not right and decided to struggle alone, huh?"
Rory figured out that is the reason he tried to push her away.
This idiot... this idiot...
Her eyes watered.
Liam hugged her. She looked like she needed it.
Struggle alone, she says when she could have used a lot of other words. He let her suffer alone and suffered along the way. But why is she thinking about him a lot?
"I’m sorry... I thought that would be the best thing to do at that time. I never thought about how I would make you feel making you go through the pregnancy alone. I wanted to, Cherry... I wanted to be there, with you, but..."
"Did you know? I waited a long time each time I went for an ultrasound. But you never even replied and..." Rory could not speak further as she choked.
She rested on his shoulder and let him caress her back. She wanted to know that he felt bad for leaving her alone and she wanted his apology although it won’t change a thing.
"You didn’t even come when I called you as I got my contractions..." she sniffed.
"I am sorry... I am sorry..." Liam’s hold on her tightened. "I wanted to visit you but I was guilty and I feared you might say that you hate me... And when you called about your contractions, I immediately left. But before getting to you, I wanted to get something for our daughter when I first meet her. I forgot my phone and my car... I was in an accident... It was~"
Rory’s sweet laugh interrupted Liam. She knew he gets a lot clumsier when he is nervous. And he gets into trouble.
"Is that why you were late? And you feared me and so you appeared in front of me covering your entirety?" she asked.
She believes me... I am telling her a far-fetched story any liar would say. Although it is the truth, she is believing me without a doubt.
Why does she trust me so much?
"There was the spread of some infection and they asked me to wear that. And... I didn’t correct you when you thought I was the intern because I knew you would hit me in the head and call me names in front of you..." he laughed.
"I would have," Rory laughed along. "Honestly, the pain I was in... I wanted to cuss loudly, but I refrained myself. If you were with me... If I knew you were with me, I would have, you know..."
"Yeah," His face turned serious. She would have been a lot more relaxed if she knew he was with her. She would have been more confident.
But no, he was not thinking about her. He was thinking about himself.
"I didn’t want to face you, Cherry. I knew I screwed up. And your eyes... I thought you would judge me and ignore me. That’s why I kept myself away from you. I wanted the divorce but I didn’t want it all to end. I was happy to learn you were pregnant. Now we have something to tie us together... But... I handled everything so wrongly..."
"I thought I would ignore you too. I wanted to hate you. But I couldn’t. And I ended up..." Rory patted his back. "We are on the same page now, right, Fizzy? We both cannot stay away from each other," she looked at him.
Liam nodded and kissed her forehead.
"We cannot."
"And so we are going to fight this together," Rory said.
"We are." Liam agreed.
"Don’t back off. Don’t say that you want me safe or you want to protect me and go off on your own. You’re stupid," She said.
Liam felt like she stabbed a knife in his heart. After all, no one would like it if their wife calls them stupid.
But he thought for a moment.
He deserves any name his wife calls her. She is never wrong.
"I do want you safe," he said. "And happy."
"And my happiness is directly proportional to your wellness. So mind that." Rory said.
"I will..."
"Do you agree that we are in this together?" she asked.
"Yes."
"Then promise me," she held out her hand.
Liam shook his head.
"I agree with the promise. But don’t you think it is silly to promise this way?" he asked.
Rory was confused. "Should we make a blood pact, then?" she asked.
"Blood? We are not witches," he smiled. "We are lovers."
"Oh, come on!" Rory pushed him away as he leaned towards her. "We haven’t finished our talk!"
"But our promise..."
