Chapter 103: His Lies

He should have had his phone with him and the cops would have been able to figure out where he was at any time.

She was about to ask him about his phone, but before that, he continued.

"...I remembered turning to leave. But I don’t know... I must have passed out..." he placed his hand over Rory’s shoulders as she widened her eyes. "I was very drunk..."

Rory wanted to shout at him. If someone else was saying this same story to her, she would roll her eyes and think that was very convenient for him to pass out right at that instance when Laura Brown disappeared.

But this is Liam. He should be telling the truth.

"How long were you out?" Rory asked.

"For more than 20 minutes... 30 minutes, probably..?" Liam said. "I know, Cherry. I know what this sounds like. But~"

"What happened next? Where were you when you woke up?" Rory asked.

"I was leaning on a dumpster near that old building and... my friends who were joyriding found me. We then went back to barhopping and I returned home in the early morning, around..."

"5:30," Rory said as he could see that Liam does not remember when he came home.

"I could not fall asleep the whole night because you weren’t with me. I woke up hearing the door open and talked to you. You didn’t answer me and slept on the couch. After waking up around 12, you walked out, without saying one word to me. You came home late that night and every night after that. And..."

Then he asked for divorce!

Rory bowed her head not wanting to remember those painful memories. Liam pulled her closer to his chest and kissed her head. He hurt her a lot those days. And she didn’t even know why.

Rory’s eyes widened remembering something. She got out of his hold and looked at him.

"Fizzy, you were wearing a different shirt in the morning. When we left, you were wearing a blue shirt but in the morning you were wearing a black shirt. That time you don’t remember... Did you by chance come home to change your shirt and somehow forgot about it?" she asked.

"Well... I figured that could be the case, but..." Liam gulped and the nerves on his forehead popped.

"I couldn’t find that navy blue shirt anywhere in our home after that night and... why would I come home to change and return to that old parking lot? That doesn’t make sense, right?"

"That shirt is gone?" Rory rubbed her forehead. That is not good. "You had two of those shirts. Did you check properly?" she asked.

Laundry and washing dishes were always his duties. He would know more about their clothes than she does.

Liam nodded. It looks like she does not remember the other details. But she remembered what he was wearing.

Almost a month before the bar incident, and when they were having their finals, Rory had one of "those" nightmares. That time, she said that the dark figure disappeared into the closet.

Of course, he didn’t find anyone in their closet and there was no sign that someone broke into their home, and both of them ignored it as always--as a nightmare.

He didn’t see that black shirt from that day, until he was wearing it on May 5th. He didn’t connect them all for a long time. But when he did, he started to believe that he was getting framed.

And recently, he believes that Rory’s nightmares might be connected to what is going on with him. That same person might be responsible for his problems too.

He still gets goosebumps remembering the footprints by the window of Rory’s room. It was a perfect match for his shoes!

Someone is definitely trying to frame him.

"You would have had your phone with you, right Fizzy? If you told the cops, or you could have investigated~"

"My phone broke that night... I got a new phone the next day?"

"Ah, yes, I remember..." Rory sighed. He was not talking to her, but she maintained the household accounts and he had to ask her for the money. "But when did it break? Before or after..."

"It broke right after I spoke with you," Liam said.

He had the prickling feeling return with vengeance. He was angry at her for lying and he destroyed his phone in anger. And because of that, he lost his strong alibi.

"It... wouldn’t have made a difference..." Rory thought out loud.

"What?" Liam asked.

"Oh, your phone... If that person wants to frame you he would have had a plan for your phone too..."

"I guess," Liam thought she was right.

"Hey, Fizzy... When the cops questioned you after Laura Brown’s disappearance, you told them the truth about all this, right?" she asked.

She hoped he did. Because if he didn’t, and he talks about someone trying to frame him right now... It would be totally unbelievable.

"That..." Liam hesitated and Rory gritted her teeth and pushed him.

"Seriously, Fizzy?" she shouted.

Baby Ellie got disturbed by her shout and Liam shushed Rory. He then gently patted Ellie back to sleep.

Rory stood up and paced to and fro in the room. She couldn’t understand how he could lie to the cops about what happened. She was angry at him.

"What did you tell them, then?" She asked after seeing that Ellie has fallen asleep.

Liam was scared to answer her. He could see that she is very mad and he feared her when she is angry.

"What?" she hissed.

Liam gathered in his courage by taking in a deep breath. "They knew about my visit to Allison’s house and after that, I told them I was with my friends the whole time."

Rory let out a deep breath to calm herself. She didn’t want to get mad at him when he is telling her the truth. "Oh? And your friends corroborated your story? Did they know that you probably were the last person to see Laura Brown alive? Would they~"

"I was not the last person to see Laura Brown alive. It was the killer," Liam interjected her.

Rory nodded. "At least you are smart about this...Oh my God!" she stood in front of him. "Now that Laura Brown’s body has been found, will your friends stick with the initial story?" She asked him.

She knows some of the boys who were friends with Liam. They were mostly opportunistic. And they found him a hindrance to their dating life as most women were attracted to him.

Also, she would agree. Liam had an arrogance to him that most considered narcissistic and it was hard for him to get close friends. They went out together and had fun.

But will they lie for him? Especially when there is the FBI involved and when there is a body.

She didn’t think so.

And it would be terrible if they expect others to lie for Liam’s sake. Perjury is a crime. No one should become a criminal for another person.
