The Royal Revenge
Chapter 228: In Exchange For Justice

Chapter 228: In Exchange For Justice

Elys and Aleksander were dumbstruck for a second. Queen Euphemia was gloating at them. Her smile was something the royal couple of the West didn’t think she could even don – her smile was way beyond how they thought of her back then.

"The leaves, you say?" Aleksander said.

Queen Euphemia and Sir Noa nodded in unison. A tiny giggle escaped the young queen’s lips and Elys’ brows arched up in response.

"Sir Noa, would you like to do the honor of explaining to them how they got here in the first place?" the Eastern Queen asked her trusted adviser.

"With pleasure, your majesty," Sir Noa said with a bow.

Once he turned to Elys and Aleksander, the magicless human squared his shoulders and straightened his posture.

He tipped his head only a bit – it wasn’t even that noticeable in the first place – and then proceeded to explain to the Western couple whom they have successfully captured.

"The leaves that have fallen all over the two of you were laced with toxic decaying matter in dust particulates," Sir Noa began. "Exposure for a long period of time could cause severe hallucinations, but ingesting it... well, that would be something else."

At that moment, Aleksander recalled how he had been so disgusted by the leaf that had somewhat found its way in his mouth.

As it turned out, the said leaf had been coated with toxic matter, and the Western King had been quite unlucky to have ingested it.

"How?" Aleksander bared his teeth at them, "How could you have done all of those without our men noticing?"

The young king of the Western Kingdom had made sure to station men along his borders, and even sent his knight commanders to lead their men effectively.

He could not understand where he had been wrong, or where he had lacked in their security that the Eastern invaders were able to destroy their borders and invade the kingdom.

Elys on the other hand was glaring with eyes like dagger at the Queen Euphemia Zemyatur. The young Eastern Queen had an impish smile on her face, which in the long run didn’t look like anything Elys would appreciate.

Their staring contest lasted for several minutes on end.

"What do you think of this place, Queen Elysianne?" the other queen asked her.

"I find it quite uncomfortable, and the hosts are extremely out of place and questionable with their motives. Why the hell did they put me in this god forsaken contraption?" Elys said.

She didn’t even try to hide the sarcasm in her voice.

"Why aren’t you answering me, twerp?" Elys asked the Eastern Queen, "If you have all the answers, then why can’t you answer mine? It was a very simplistic question, I know you are more than just capable to answer such a query, right?"

Queen Euphemia shook her head. She allowed herself a good self-centered laughter, and then her eyes bore down the vampire king’s wife.

"I am impressed by the sheer amount of hatred you have in you," the Eastern Queen said as she shifted her weight on to one foot. "Quite fascinating how you could have kept all of those powers inside of you without bursting into flames."

"Why would I? I am made of flames, you half-sized queen for a normal kid," Elys countered.

By this time around, Queen Euphemia’s bright smile slowly turned darker, her brows furrowing and making a tight bridge in between. Her beaming and white teeth were hidden beneath as her lips formed a taut line.

"You dare to mock me like so, and yet you lacked a lot of things as well, Elysianne Whitecaster," Queen Euphemia said. "How did you feel that your most trusted had actually been a good spy for us?"

Elys’ hands turned to raging fists that were more than just ready to punch the Eastern Queen.

"And you dare to have us restrained like this? I thought you lot were all for non-violence?" Elys countered Euphemia, "Speaking of living peacefully and there you were sending your trained animals and beasts to disturb the Western Kingdom’s peace."

"Well, we would have been content and as peaceful as you thought we were the first time around if you had given us what we wanted," the young queen said.

Her eyes veered off towards Elys’ husband, and the vampire king noticed additional set of eyes on him. Aleksander’s molten silvers turned to piercing golds in less than a fraction of a second.

"Fuck you," Aleksander hissed at the Eastern Queen.

Queen Euphemia scowled at the words that were used against her. She didn’t like the tone of Aleksander and the way he looked at her as if she was the one who had done him wrong.

It was the West that had done them a lot of atrocities when they came several months ago. They had been welcomed generously, yet they had the audacity to leave the kingdom in ruins.

"You killed a lot of my people," Queen Euphemia said.

Her head was lowered and her eyes cast downwards as her hair covered her eyes partly. No one could see the look she had in her eyes, but the people inside the room were not fool enough not to notice the young queen was about to cry.

The young queen’s hands were trembling beside her, her fingers curled inwards as they formed solid fists. Sir Noa saw that his queen had become distraught, and he hurried over to her side to comfort her.

"Euphie..." the adviser whispered as he gently touched her shoulder.

"That was under the influence of the late King Raxus’ magic," Aleksader said. "It was unforeseen and had been a mistake. We never should have opened and read the scrolls he gave us."

Sir Noa and Queen Euphemia’s head whipped upwards and the look on their faces spoke volumes.

Aleksander and Elys saw it coming, but their eyes still couldn’t help but blink as Sir Noa picked up something from his pockets and hurled it towards them.

A crashing sound cracked near their ears, and broken glass exploded everywhere near their faces, leaving wounds bleeding.

The hard slab of their beds was soaking with something from the item the Eastern adviser threw, and Aleksander and Elys were left to just hope it wasn’t something deadly.

"Your excuses will never be acceptable, King Aleksander Reagan Hazreel Ardorlean," Sir Noa said. "Our kingdom has been wronged, and you shall be punished as necessary. Justice will be served."

Sir Noa guided his queen away from the Western couple, and somehow Elys found it a bit concerning.

Why were they getting farther from her and her husband? What did Sir Noa throw at them in the first place?

She couldn’t feel anything as her arms started to get soaked with the warm liquid. It seeped into her clothes, and slowly integrated with her skin.

"What is this?" Aleksander asked, "This smells funny, and quite fishy too – literally and figuratively."

"That is for you to find out soon," Sir Noa said.

There was a dark look in his eyes as he and Queen Euphemia finally stopped several meters away from Aleksander and Elys.

His arm was now wrapped protectively around the young queen of the Eastern Kingdom, and Queen Euphemia watched Elys and Aleksander squirming as they tried to get as much skin away from the unknown dripping liquid.

Whatever it was, it has started to get hotter than it originally felt on their skin. It was as if warm water started to boil. It was already scalding hot, yet the parts where the liquid had touched their skin were still burning hotter.

"Urgkh..." Aleksander bit his tongue from reacting the way the Easterners wanted him to.

He knew they want to see him suffer. This was just the beginning of the things that they want to do to him, he knew it.

There was no denying of the hatred that burned at the very center of their pupils.

"If you were so adamant on non-violence, why did you even create this room? Why did you even have to harm us like this?" Elys said through gritted teeth.

She could start to smell the scent of burning flesh, but as much as she wanted to roll over and glance at her soaked arm, she couldn’t move due to the restraints from her head down to her feet.

"We have exceptions, if I might say so myself," Sir Noa said, "but you shouldn’t even try to focus on that right now. At this very moment, you two are currently bleeding from the glass’ impact while parts of your body are burning due to the compound that I had mixed inside of it."

"If you want to be paid, then name your price. I can pay you however much you would demand," Aleksander said, his nostrils flaring at the pain his right shoulder was currently experiencing.

Sir Noa and Queen Euphemia looked at him and then said in unison, "We don’t seek material things in exchange for justice."
