Chapter 227: Restrained
Chapter 227: Restrained
When Elys opened her eyes, she couldn’t tell if she was back at the palace or was somewhere else. Her whole body felt numb, while her ears were ringing heavily. She couldn’t really feel much of her fingers and toes, but they did return after several attempts of moving around.
The next thing she found troubling was the fact that she couldn’t move quiet as much as she wanted to. The beds were cold, and it felt like something else was underneath her.
She attempted to lift her head to glance around, yet she felt a restraint strapped around her forehead, making her initial plan impossible. Her wrists and ankles were bound as well, and something leathery and wide held her torso down.
Elysianne tried to twist her hand and at the very least gather enough mana from herself and blast her restraints away with magic. But after spending five minutes of struggling, Elys was devastated to learn her magic was gone.
’Or maybe, I am restrained in a thing which disables magic users like me,’ she thought at the back of her mind.
All in all, it wasn’t looking too good for the Western Queen.
The only good thing that she could find in her situation was the fact that she wasn’t blindfolded and gagged.
"Aleksander..." she called out her husband’s name, "my king, are you there?"
"I am here, my queen," she heard his raspy voice.
Why did he sound like that?
"Are you restrained as well?" she asked.
"I am," he replied, "very much restrained to the point I am more surprised that they didn’t even consider having me gagged and blindfolded too."
A tiny laughter escaped Elys’ lips and she wished she could have seen Aleksander’s signature scowl as he grumbled. But her burst of laughter was cut off immediately as she remembered their current situation.
"By any chance, do you know where the fuck we are?" Elys wondered out loud.
"My best guess is that we got... kidnapped? I can’t hear a thing, my heightened vampire senses seemed to be ineffective here," Aleksander confessed. "Something is really off about this place."
"Maybe its just the bright white light and bare ceiling we are supposed to stare at all day long," Elys suggested with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Maybe it feels off because that’s what they want us to feel."
"They?" Aleksander repeated, "Who are they?"
"I have no fucking idea," Elys frowned, looking at the pristinely unhinging white ceiling and added, "I can’t seem to remember a thing after we... what did we do before this again?"
"Uhh... hold on let me think of it," the young king said.
Just as how he discovered he had no memories of what happened before they arrived at this place.
Aleksander knew he and his wife were in the middle of doing something important before they even woke up to this foreign environment. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was, as his memories seemed to be quite hazy.
"Fuck... I can’t recall anything before this," he muttered under his voice.
"You can’t remember as well?" Elys asked in bewilderment.
Just as they tried once again to remember anything from the past several hours of their lives, Elys and Aleksander were surprised to hear something open – like that of a heavy metal door.
The doors closed with a loud clang. Elys presumed that aside from the door being metal itself, its locks sounded crude and... was that a bar lock?
She wanted to shake her head and perhaps even sneak in a few scratches as well, but things were not to her advantage and she had to make do with none.
Heels clicked one after the other as Elys heard the person that entered came closer. Each sound echoing and dispersing in what the young queen assumed a large room.
"Welcome to my favorite place in the entire kingdom," a familiar woman’s voice finally said.
’Favorite place? What does that even mean?’ Aleksander thought.
"Who are you?! Where are we?" Elys demanded as she tried to break away from her restraints. "As the Queen of the Western Kingdom, I command you to release us this instant!"
Even as Elys tried as much as she could to release herself from the bondage that she was in by using her bare strength, the young queen still couldn’t make a difference – she was still tied down.
"Oh, please don’t try to struggle so much," the woman that had recently entered said, "it wouldn’t make the tiniest difference despite your efforts."
The voice seemed to have moved nearer now, her footsteps clicking in a rhythm she clearly made a habit of.
CLICK CLICK CLACK, CLICK CLICK CLACK
Finally the woman’s footsteps stopped, and Elys felt a presence standing on her left side. She strained her eyes to glance to the side, but her vision didn’t seem to be reliable at such angle she had to look at with her head restrained.
"Who are you?" she hissed yet again at the woman who came towards them.
"Oh my, they had done you too well that you couldn’t even recognize me," the woman replied.
Her voice had a hint of amusement in it, and a tiny giggle bubbled out of her mouth. Elys listened in closely as the woman began shuffling under her bed.
"Alright, here we go," she said as she pulled a lever underneath with a heavy tug, "this should adjust your beds easily for the meantime."
Elys heard a mechanical whirring from underneath her and suddenly, her bed started to tilt forward.
She couldn’t hear the woman shuffling towards Aleksander next, but when the vampire king was tilted forward the same way Elys had been.
As the woman came to their view, the couple’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"A girl?"
"A little girl? Wait, a teenager!"
Elys and Aleksander spoke simultaneously in shock.
"Hey, I am no ordinary girl, you know?" she crossed her arms and pouted like a child being denied candies and other sweet things.
Why were they being held captive by a little girl? Was she working alone, or had she gone for help so she could get Elys and Aleksander restrained?
But less of that now and more of the urgent matters.
In the first place, the issue that should actually be answered was that how were they even taken as captives? In all her life, Elys had never been caught before in the Northern Kingdom when she was being assessed for her strengths and weaknesses.
The only thing that had her off-guard and beaten into a pulp was when she was taken in as a slave along with every living survivor of her people.
If she had only been strong enough not to have broken down in silence with her father’s death in her arms, then Elys would have had a fighting chance against them.
The woman was dressed up in clothes that looked like it was the jungle handpicked and sewn together to represent the lush rainforests of her kingdom (perhaps).
"Wait, you mentioned something regarding your ’favorite place in the kingdom’," Aleksander said as his eyes squinted at the little penguins. "What kingdom are we in now?"
The little girl giggled once more and then turned towards the east of the room and beckoned someone else closer.
"Come on, they won’t bite us with all the magic-inhibitor devices we strapped all around them," the girl waved and soon enough, a tall figure loomed over them.
"Meet Sir Noa," the girl announced, "and you may call me Euphie if you want."
"Your majesty," Sir Noa frowned as he turned to his queen, "You only deserve to be called the Eastern Kingdom’s fairest of all."
As the girl – apparently the Eastern Queen – spoke words that would actually kickstart Elys and Aleksander’s memories that were purposely taken away from them.
Elys and Aleksander jerked in their restraints as their hazy memories finally started working again. There were hundreds of information that began to travel into the royal couple’s mind.
"What the hell, Eastern Queen, Sir Noa!" Aleksander bellowed in his restraints. "Who gave you the permission to abduct us that way?!"
Queen Euphemia tilted her head and said, "I gave them permission to attack the entire Western Kingdom’s borders back then."
Aleksander’s hands turned into angry fists as he listened in on what Queen Euphemia and Sir Noa were talking about.
"How the hell did you get us in here?" Aleksander asked.
Sir Noa and his queen turned to glance at each other before the adviser started speaking. It was as if he was asking for permission to blabber about.
"We had a few of our trained animals sent in there, carrying seeds that were slowly integrated into your kingdom’s soils. The moment that Elys had entered the forest, you have already sealed your doom," Sir Noa explained.
"Toxins are abundant when you know which plants you would need to get them," Queen Euphemia added, "you might remember the showering leaves? That was us."
