Chapter 216: Eat You Alive
Chapter 216: Eat You Alive
The knights stationed outside Elys and Aleksander’s shared bedchamber jolted as they saw the king marching towards them. At first, they were confused what he was carrying on his shoulder, but the kicking feet and trail of blazing scarlet hair was clearly the queen.
"Open the doors," Aleksander commanded them as he neared them.
The knights immediately did as they were told. The huge double doors opened as they pushed, and Aleksander entered quickly with his flailing wife still beating his back to a pulp in resistance.
The heavy thud of the doors shutting behind them muffled a bit of Elys’ voice, but the knights could still hear her scream like her mouth was right beside their ears.
"PUT ME DOWN, VAMPIRE!" Elys shrieked at the top of her lungs.
"Alright," Aleksander responded, "my beloved queen, your wish is my command."
With a swift movement, Aleksander lifted Elys off of his shoulders and then threw her to their bed. She bounced on the soft mattress, and attempted to roll over and out of the bed.
But soon after Aleksander put her down, he was quick to cage her with his whole body. His hands pinned her wrists to the bed with a deadly grasp, his legs leaning on to her thighs to stop her from kicking.
"I will kill you!" Elys hissed at him.
"I have heard that several times from your mouth, dear wife," Aleksander retorted, "and yet, I am still alive. Funny how shallow the threats you throw my way, is it not?"
His wife scowled at his sarcasm and quickly responded, "Oh, I would love it very much to make those same threats deeper than the darkest void if you think they are shallow."
"Are they not?" he raised a doubtful brow.
"Let me go and you will find out," she answered him.
Aleksander and Elys bantered back and forth until such time the young king did not respond to her anymore. She took it as a sign of weakness and continued to yell at him, egging him to do the same.
But the vampire king only heaved a heavy sigh.
"We aren’t getting anything done if we continue to be like this, Elysianne," Aleksander spoke seriously. "You should know by now that we don’t have the time to be like this."
"Oh, I know that we don’t have the time," Elys replied as she wrestled her hands out of Aleksander’s grasp. "I just choose to waste them, you know, just to stir you up."
The vampire king frowned and merely didn’t budge from his position in silence.
Elys continued to struggle out of the prison Aleksander made out of his entire body. She tried to punch and kick with all her might, but his vampire strength compared to hers was just enough to get him to exert extra effort in pinning her down.
She could tell that he was getting tired with her unceasing attempts, and the young queen lived up to her stubborn personality and persisted.
All of a sudden, Aleksander sighed and brought his entire body crashing down on her.
Elys gasped at the impact of his hard body. His face smacked on the soft sheets, and she could hear him mumbling into them incomprehensibly.
Perhaps he was complaining about Elys?
"Get off of me, husband," she hissed.
Elys tried to push him off of her, but his entire body seemed to have become heavy as a cannon. He didn’t stir no matter how much she tried to push him over – it was as if he used magic to make his bones, flesh, and everything else inside him to make them heavier than normal.
He lifted his head high enough so that his voice was not muffled anymore. He turned his attention towards Elys and adjusted himself just enough so that his head was resting on her breast instead of the bed.
"My queen, you should – you must – stop this childish act that you are doing," Aleksander pleaded with her, "it is costing us the pact that we made to support each other. You are turning on me instead. That is not what we had agreed upon."
Elys’ brows arched upward as she peeked to see Aleksander’s temples on her chest.
"Not what we agreed upon?" she repeated, but with a sarcastic tone to her voice. "Try recalling what you did and suggested to me when I said I would handle my own maidservant."
"Now that," Elys paused as she stared at the ceiling with vehemence, imagining Aleksander’s face in contact with her fist, "that was not what we had agreed upon."
"We didn’t agree on anything that had to do with your maidservant being a traitor," Aleksander sighed. "Elys, is Cordelia really that important for you?"
"The closest thing I could call as a mother," she replied within a heartbeat, "she might have tried to go against us, but she had the best intentions in her heart."
Silence filled the room as Aleksander didn’t say a word.
Slowly, he slid off of Elys and sat at the edge of their bed. His wife got up and watched his back rise and fall. The moon was nowhere to be found outside, and the only light that shone inside their room was that of the firelight and several lamps.
There was a pregnant pause that begged to be popped.
"Aleksander," Elys spoke after a long while.
The vampire king jerked at the mention of his name, and slowly turned to meet Elys’ eyes boring straight at him.
"What did you see inside Cordelia’s head that made you think she really needed to be locked up in the dungeons?" she continued.
"Now that you ask me like that, I don’t think I have the courage to actually tell you anymore," Aleksander sighed.
He got up from the edge of the bed and moved towards the couch. He leaned his entire body on the backrest and closed his eyes, seemingly getting tired of everything that was happening in his life.
"What are you thinking, Aleksander?" his wife asked him.
Aleksander heard her footsteps tip toeing across the room to reach him. It would have been something that made him happy in another circumstance, but aside from her footsteps, he also heard her open the drawer next to their bed.
He knew what was inside the drawer.
They both knew what the item Elys had taken out of it.
Aleksander felt a cold and sharp thing touch just the slightest of his neck’s skin. Why did he even let her take the knife? It was as if he wasted all the beatings that he took from her as he dragged her to their shared bedchambers.
"Put the knife away, Elysianne," Aleksander sighed. "You don’t really need it."
"I might," Elys said without a single bit of remorse in her voice.
"Then you lose the chance to hear the answer you wanted from me," the young king replied dully, "Nothing to find here but the silence of a dead man after you plunge that knife to which part of my vital organs."
"Cut the crap, Aleksander," Elys snapped at him, "you are just beating around the bush."
She withdrew the knife from his neck and threw it to the floor, just an inch away from his foot. Aleksander opened his eyes and glanced at his wife.
"I understand your anger, but you need to know that I am on your side," the vampire king spoke to his queen. "We made a deal, have we not?"
Elys merely nodded and then replied curtly, "I do remember we agreed upon certain conditions. Should we take time to review and amend them?"
A smirk tugged the corners of Aleksander’s mouth. Reviewing their agreement and amending were two different things.
It can do both bad and good for either of them, not even a chance for both of them to win fairly together. It would always give the other one an upper hand, with which Aleksander didn’t mind but still thought funny.
He had been so hellbent on taking revenge and destroying his entire kingdom before Elys came into the picture. When the human Northern Princess joined the game, Aleksander’s plans were destroyed and he had to build from scratch.
But that wasn’t done alone.
He had her by his side, and although they have shortcomings from time to time, the two of them still shared the common goal nonetheless.
"Alright then," Aleksander finally spoke after mulling things over his head, "I guess we should start to review what we agreed upon before, since it seems like a lot of things have strayed from our original plan."
"It truly has," Elys agreed.
She walked around the couch and stood in front of Aleksander. Her dress was tightly hugging her bodice, and Aleksander couldn’t help but to stare in awe at her physical appearance.
Of course, Elys was beautiful both outside and inside, but the vampire couldn’t deny the fact that his wife was a catch.
"Stop staring at me like that husband," Elys said to him, "I will eat you alive if you aren’t careful."
