Chapter 217: Without Shouting At Each Other
The corners of Aleksander’s mouth lifted as a smile started to spread in his face.
"My queen, don’t joke with me like that. Or else, I might be tempted to do more than just take a moment’s look," the young king replied.
Elys crossed her arms and gave him an arrogant up and down look, "I am not speaking of anything else but to kill you and cook your meat into the most delicious delicacy of the Northern People that I could think of."
"That is quite a bit macabre, dear wife," Aleksander laughed nervously, "can’t you just eat me without killing me?"
Seemingly disregarding the fact that they were arguing a minute ago, Elys and Aleksander began to play yet another game. A game that would need the two of them to use both their wits and charms.
And that was the game of love and seduction.
The young queen leaned forward, nicking her husband’s ears as she whispered, "I don’t think that would happen anytime soon. But I guess we will see."
A chuckle rolled from Aleksander and he suddenly grabbed Elys by the back of her head and pulled her in for a long and hungry kiss. The young king searched her mouth with his tongue for that exquisite taste that only her kiss could give him.
Pushing and sucking, their kiss lasted for quite a while. Hadn’t it only been a day since they last tasted each other in Aleksander’s office?
It seemed like she had lost her senses and control of herself as soon as his lips reached hers. She knew it was stupid of her, but instead of pushing him away like what she would have wanted to do, her mouth responded with equal intensity as she kissed him back.
The wet and sensuous kiss they shared eventually ended, and a hot sensation lingered on their faces as their lips parted from each other.
Aleksander’s breathing was hitched, and Elys could actually her heart beating wildly in her chest it almost felt like it would burst out of her ribcage.
Who would have thought that a single kiss could actually give people heart attacks.
As Elys opened her eyes to look right into Aleksander’s face, a gasp escaped her lips. She was surprised to see the moment his silver eyes shifted into their strikingly piercing golds.
The Western Queen knew Aleksander’s magic was most dangerous when he made eye contact, but she never backed away from a challenge she knew she needed to face it head on. But that was more perhaps on the fact that she was just stubborn headed.
"If you are done attacking me as you like, shall we now talk about the agreement we had before all of this shit happened?" she asked him. "I would love to have it reviewed and amended as needed."
Her husband smiled cunningly at Elys and let her head go.
"You responded yourself, wife," Aleksander said as he pulled her gently to sit beside him in the couch, "we can’t call that an attack if you willingly accepted it. Well, maybe we could, but it wasn’t as if you were hurt, right?"
"You are such a flirt, husband," Elys clicked her tongue, "you can hear my heart hammering inside of my chest. The kiss might as well be the death of me."
Aleksander’s eyes turned soft as he turned his head to look at his wife’s side profile. She was looking straight ahead of the fireplace, her eyes reflecting the flames that flickered in the furnace.
"My wife, I have told you countless of times that I don’t want you to be hurt, nor to be in any danger," he said while he reached out to tuck a stray lock of Elys’ hair behind her ear, "If I could do anything to prevent it, even casting myself to the flames then I would."
Elys chuckled and shook her head. She turned and rolled her eyes at her husband as she responded.
"Aren’t you quite the most theatric person I have ever met?" she asked him sarcastically.
She flicked Aleksander’s forehead playfully and the tension that had been hanging by a thin thread soon vanished. The young king sighed and leaned back as he let his laughter echo in the four walls of their shared chambers.
"Where do you want to start, my queen?" Aleksander asked her.
"How about an apology?" she quickly replied.
"For what?"
"Why, for creating a scene and disgracing me in front of several people," Elys raised an incredulous brow at him, as if disappointed that he had to even ask.
"Well, you were being extremely difficult, which left me with no choice but to pick you up and lock you in here with me," Aleksander responded with no remorse in his voice, "But yes, I do owe you an apology for that, so I am sorry, my queen."
"And you must apologize as well for disrespecting my wishes with what to do with Cordelia," Elys quickly added.
As soon as the maidservant’s name was mentioned, Aleksander’s cheerful attitude was washed away with a frown.
"You weren’t being reasonable with me back then, wife," he responded without being condescending, "All I wanted from you was trust, and yet you turned your back and didn’t listen anymore."
Elys pressed her lips together in a tight line. She was thankful that they were looking at the same fire that continued to flicker in the chamber’s fireplace. If not, then Aleksander would have seen the trace of reservation in her eyes.
Now that her head was clear and she finally gave Aleksander’s argument a thought, Elys was finding his opinion quite understandable. In his perspective, Cordelia was a threat to the plans they were supposed to fulfill.
He had been plotting his revenge upon the whole nobility of the vampire hierarchy and clergy for the longest of time, and yet someone he thought he could trust as an extension of his faith in his wife was ready to put it all into jeopardy.
"You owe me an apology as well, my dear wife," Aleksander said as he glanced at her with only his eyes, "but it doesn’t matter now. All we need is to be in the same page and everything else will fall into their place."
Elys returned his gaze as she veered her attention to her husband.
"Well then, what do you want from me, Aleksander?" Elys asked him. "I have helped you in every way to fight off the nobilities and clergy that threatened your crown, but where is the safety and compensation I have asked for my people?"
The young king stared into his beloved wife’s eyes and replied, "The night you proclaimed the decree of nondiscrimination against the humans in the Western Kingdom, I instructed Marquis Lanz to prepare the gold that you asked for compensation."
"And of punishment to those who violated my people?" Elys asked him.
Aleksander lifted his face and tilted his head as an evil grin was plastered on his face.
"Why are you smiling at me like that?" Elys nervously laughed. "What have you done, my king? You are making my skin crawl just by the look of your evil eyes."
"Haha," the vampire king laughed, "oh you would love the things I have gathered over the past weeks as king, Elys."
One side of the young queen’s mouth lifted into a smirk and she responded, "And that would be?"
Her eyes were full of curiosity, but she was sure to keep her reaction at bay. Aleksander leaned forward and kissed her cheek as he brought his lips further towards her ear.
"Valuable intelligence about the dirt of all the nobles in the High Court, including that of the clergy," Aleksander said.
Elys felt a shiver run up and down her spine as she felt his breath tickle the small hairs on her skin. She felt a laughter bubble from inside her and she couldn’t help but to grab Aleksander’s face with both her hands.
"Why haven’t you told me of any of these before, husband?" she asked him.
"Well, I wanted it to be a surprise to my wife," Aleksander blushed. "I never had given you anything as a wedding gift, and yet I ask you for so much just by staying at my side."
"Yeah, you have asked so much from me too when you made me choose between you and Cordelia," Elys sighed. "Speaking of which, can we come to an agreement with what to do with her?"
Aleksander turned stiff with how fast their conversation shifted from one thing unto another.
Finally, they have come to the issue regarding her maidservant. He didn’t want to talk about it, as he was sure that Elys was going to be hurt, but it was a necessary thing to discuss for it could be one of the things that could bring their mission into doom.
"Yes, speaking of Cordelia, I should probably tell you everything now that we are talking without shouting at each other," Aleksander agreed.
Elys sat at the edge of the couch and felt unease at the words that would soon leave her husband’s mouth.
