Chapter 159: Give Me A Hug Too

"Wife, the reason I have asked you to stay in the shared bedchamber is because this room is enchanted to protect the king and queen, or any couple at that who would enter it," he said. "The balcony may be open, but not a single soul may enter it as long as we are inside these walls."

Elys was still skeptical, "And then how would you explain the fact that Lady Catalina was able to throw blades at us that first night at the balcony? Was Lady Catalina that powerful to break the enchantment?"

Aleksander raised his hands at level with his chest, "Woah, okay slow down. Lady Catalina was able to do that due to a glitch in the enchantment. It would only activate once the two of us are inside the room, not outside. The balconies are considered outside the rooms."

His wife’s expression was made of a lot of mixtures. She grumbled, her eyebrows shooting up the skies with how high she could raise it.

"I agreed to this because you looked like you were terrified to death to leave me alone in my own room, but now what do we have here?" she asked him while she waved her hands around the room. "I don’t think holding hands would be enough to keep me safe, Aleksander."

The young king cleared his throat, "I’m sorry to have disappointed you on that. But like I said, you are protected as long as we are together here. I may have fallen asleep, but that was because I knew we were safe already."

"Yeah, tell that to your friend," Elys sassed.

Aleksander scratched his head, "I am telling it to my friend. Elys, you are the friend."

The young queen choked on her own saliva yet again.

"What did you just say, Aleksander?" she said as she turned her attention towards the vampire king. "A friend? Me and you?"

Aleksander raised his shoulders and said, "You told me not to fall in love with you, but we are technically married. We agreed to take revenge on the ones that wronged us, and we have helped each other out several times now."

"Where are you going with this, husband?" Elys scowled, "Honestly speaking, I am losing my patience with you right now."

The young king frowned and asked, "Don’t you think that we should be friends by now, at the very least?"

Elys shrugged her shoulders and merely said, "Well, we could be. But I rather think of you as a business partner."

Aleksander was finding Elys more and more merciless as she continued to reject him one way or another. She pushed away the notion they were wife and husband most of the time they were together – unless there were other people around.

Finally exasperated, Aleksander said, "A business partner that you would hug during your sleep?"

Elys’ blood red pupils dilated as Aleksander’s words sunk in.

"I hugged who in my sleep?" she demanded, unconvinced she would do anything like that at all.

"I don’t know who else, but as far as I know, you have hugged me tonight," Aleksander said, a smug look on his face. "You did not even want to let go of me if I hadn’t pried myself away from you."

"Nonsense!" she blushed profusely. "I would never do that."

Aleksander only laughed and said, "Oh, yes you did. Do you know you talk in your sleep? I didn’t really mean to look or listen for too long, but we are in the same room, and I find it futile to deny what I heard your mouth mumbled on. You toss and turn a lot too."

Elys sat at the edge of the bed, her sitting position showing her unyielding to the fact that Aleksander spoke about. She knew her nightmares were as real as it gets, but she did not know she talks in her sleep.

"Anyways, regarding me holding your hand..." Aleksander continued, "Wife, you literally grabbed me as I was about to check on you and decided not to let go. If I made a move to get out, you would begin sniffling like a sad puppy, and look at where I am now."

There was a bit of sarcasm in the young king’s voice, but Elys was too immersed with her mind racing back and forth that the joke fell into deaf ears.

Suddenly, Elys recalled how her dream had been last night.

She swore that she felt better after she was hugged by her mother in her dreams, but what if it was because she had hugged Aleksander in reality?

That was just utterly absurd and quite unbelievable too!

"Well, if you don’t want to believe what I said, then I won’t be forcing it on to you," Aleksander leaned back to his seat.

A yawn started to creep into him and eventually escaped his mouth.

"Ah... my bad," he apologized to Elys as he covered half of his face as he yawned again.

He and Elys turned their attention to the skies outside and saw the slow rising of the sun from the horizons.

"It seems like its actually my time to sleep now..." Aleksander said. "Are you satisfied with my answers to your previous questions, my queen?"

"I will have to just accept them for now," Elys replied.

Aleksander smiled at her and stood up slowly. He crept into the bed and Elys almost squeaked with how the bed moved behind her. She turned around to see Aleksander lazing on the bed and looking at her.

With his long arm, the young king pulled the second layer of canopies on his side of the bed. It would then shield him from the harsh rays of the sun, making it possible to still sleep with comfort should Elys prefer natural light within the room during the day.

Elys saw Aleksander staring at her, and then he opened his arms wide.

"Wife, you slept like a baby after the hug," Aleksander teased her, "would you give me a hug too so I can sleep well?"
