Chapter 116: Pathetic

Chapter 116: Pathetic

The lady in waiting’s eyes shook with apprehension. She didn’t expect that the bastard prince had such terrifying powers.

Lady Catalina bit her own tongue as Aleksander’s intense gaze bore into her. What was she even doing? It seemed like the idea of assassinating him and his wife now revealed to be too difficult to accomplish.

Her eyes turned to the human slave’s indifferent face. She was just sitting on the tower’s windowsill, a blank look in her eyes as she witnessed Aleksander handle the insolent lady in waiting.

The lady in waiting glared at Elys. In Lady Catalina’s eyes, the human slave turned bride of the bastard prince was never going to be the same as the queens she served before.

Elys tilted her head, an amused look finally showing in her face. Lady Catalina watched as she covered her mouth and smirked just a bit.

’The audacity to laugh!’ the lady in waiting screamed inwardly. ’How dare she even step foot inside the monarchs’ chambers!’

Lady Catalina’s hateful opinions were put to a sudden halt as she felt a prickling sensation run up and down her spine. Her eyes peered over as Aleksander reeled in closer, his grip on her hair tightening as he pulled her slightly forward.

"Did you have a nice dream? Perhaps think of it whenever you try to assassinate us again, bitch!" Aleksander whispered to her ears, his tone serious and menacing.

Without skipping a beat, the young king reached for the lady in waiting’s ankles. A loud crack echoed within the stone walls of the tower, followed by the anguished screams of the lady in waiting.

Lady Catalina took only a split second to realize what happened to her – Aleksander’s powerful kick broke her leg!

The young king threw her to the ground, laughing maniacally as he gloated at the vampire’s suffering. After several moments of reveling at Lady Catalina’s face twisted with pain, Aleksander stopped laughing, and altogether switched to his cold demeanor.

"You are a monster!" the woman spat at Aleksander.

The young king turned towards his wife, his back facing Lady Catalina.

He didn’t even glance back at her as he said his parting commands, "Leave now and never come back to the palace. Unless you want your deepest and darkest nightmares turn into reality."

Lady Catalina spat blood to the ground. Defiant and still unwilling to admit defeat, the vampire glowered with vehemence at the retreating bastard.

"Is this it? Hah! You are a pathetic vampire. King Raxus wouldn’t have let an assassin go, he’d have her head cut off and hanged by the gates for everyone to see!" the lady in waiting yelled, her voice hoarse from screaming her lungs out moments ago.

Aleksander didn’t even pay heed to her words.

His attention was focused on Elys and the way she looked at him. Her eyes reminded him that even as he promised to destroy the vampire kingdom, he shouldn’t let his emotions get the better of him and sound judgement.

He already set his mind into orchestrating a trap using Lady Catalina as bait. He shouldn’t let his anger overcome him to the point he’d immediately kill the lady in waiting although every inch of him screamed for him to end her.

Elys cocked her head to the side – why was Aleksander grinning at her? It was as if he was so proud that he’d restrained himself and wanted her to compliment him or something.

Wait, did he really want to hear her praise him?

"You look like you want me to pat your head and tell you you were a good boy, like a proud little puppy," Elys teased her husband, "what are you grinning for, King Aleksander Ardorlean?"

"Ahh..." her husband sighed, "I was just taking in the unmatched beauty which holds supreme power in front of me."

The Northern Warrior Princess scoffed, "You really shouldn’t -"

"Don’t turn your back on me, you good-for-nothing son of a bitch! You as well you piece of whore!" Lady Catalina screeched, pulling Elys and Aleksander’s attention back to her.

"Tsk! How rude," Elys said, the corners of her mouth dragging downwards into a displeased frown.

The new queen of the vampires watched as Lady Catalina reached for the staircase’s handrail for support. She struggled to hoist herself up, her whole body shaking with pain from Aleksander’s fatal kick.

The lady in waiting eventually stood up in an awkward position, one leg supporting the rest of her body weight. Despite the struggles and heavy panting, Lady Catalina still casted Aleksander and his wife a scornful look.

The young king merely glanced back at the vampire with a disgusted look in his golden eyes. His nose scrunched and he clicked his tongue in displeasure.

"So, this is how you want to repay my kindness?" he asked.

"You are making a big mistake," Lady Catalina croaked, "You might as well kill me here."

Aleksander sneered and continued towards his wife. He bent his body a bit, like a halfway bow, his hand reaching out for Elys. His wife raised a brow in confusion. Nevertheless, Elys took his hand and he guided them until Elys’ hand was hooked to his arm.

The couple then walked to the where Lady Catalina struggled to stay upright, their chins held high as if to rub insult to the lady in waiting’s wounds.

"Let’s go, my queen," Aleksander spoke as they passed by the lady in waiting. "This night shouldn’t be spent any second longer in the presence of garbage."

Elys side-eyed the pathetic and disheveled vampire, "True. My eyes hurt just looking at how pathetic she is clutching the railings."

The two unlikely couple took the staircase down the tower, leaving behind the lady in waiting trembling with self-loathing and a burning abhorrence for the new vampire monarchs.

Lady Catalina gritted her teeth, her eyes teary. She felt as if she had failed miserably as she let herself be defeated by the bastard prince. Not to mention his wife was equally dangerous as well.

How could a human like her be capable of magic? She couldn’t have been merely ’just’ a human at all!
