Chapter 117: Embarrassed Queen

Aleksander and Elys returned to their shared bedchambers just in time that their loyal servants arrived at the palace. Henry and Cordelia brought each of their master’s personal belongings, as well as several important documents.

"Your majesty," Cordelia hovered over Elys like a spooked mother hen, "what happened? We heard a blast and rushed as fast as we could."

"Why are there no knights stationed near your bedchambers, your majesty?" Henry asked Aleksander, his tone equally worried, but was more civil than Cordelia’s approach.

Elys and Aleksander were caught by surprise with the way their servants reacted to the explosion.

"I am fine, Cordelia," Elys smiled at the old woman.

"So am I," her husband added, "Henry, Cordelia, you two can put both our personal belongings inside this shared bedchamber."

The old woman and his attendant’s brows rose. Cordelia with apprehension, Henry with curiosity. The shared bedchamber was used primarily for...

"Don’t just gawk like that," Aleksander snapped. "Get going, we have a long night ahead."

’A long night ahead?!’ Cordelia and Henry worried simultaneously.

The surprised expression on their faces were obvious to Elys, and she immediately assumed they must have thought of lewd things.

"We are not doing anything at all aside from plotting world domination," Elys said irritably. "Wipe those stupid looks off your faces."

Elys made an attempt to walk to the other side of the hallway, but Aleksander grabbed her arm and pulled her back, "Where are you going? You can’t wander alone."

"I am no damsel in distress, husband," Elys said, masking her embarrassment with a mad and rushed tone. "I can wander on my own if I want to."

"And let you be vulnerable to another assassination attempt?" Aleksander shook his head, "No, I won’t let that happen. You may be strong, but we both know that these are dangerous times. The first few days from here on out would be crucial to establish our claim to the throne. You cannot leave my side!"

"Then I will have Cordelia with me, so that I won’t be alone then." Elys spoke. "Are you happy now?"

Cordelia took a step forward and stood beside Elysianne, "I have been with her through every assassination attempts since she was a baby. I will be enough to guard her for tonight, your majesty."

Aleksander noted the glare in Elys blazing eyes. She looked down towards his hand on her arm, and her husband acquiesced. He didn’t want to seem too overbearing to her.

"Alright," Aleksander breathed in and out, calming himself down. "Forgive me, I acted way too brashly."

His queen raised her chin indignantly and then turned away from him and Henry. She walked without a single word uttered, her footsteps lithe and calculated. He noted she padded on the cold floor barefoot, and he quickly grabbed a pair of slippers.

"Take this and make her wear them, her feet must be cold," he instructed Cordelia, "You better do your job right."

Cordelia’s brown eyes were stoic. She grabbed the slippers from Aleksander’s hands and then quickly bowed down. Her long strides eventually caught up with Elys, and Cordelia handed her the slippers.

Elys only stopped to wear them, and then walked further away right after, not even glancing back at Aleksander.

The young king heaved a sigh of concern, and his attendant was fully aware of what his sigh meant.

"Your majesty," Henry spoke, "are you genuinely concerned of the princess – I mean, the queen?"

His master didn’t reply to his question. Instead, Aleksander turned towards the bedchamber and then instructed the old man, "Just get our things inside, Henry. I am tired."

After Henry finally arranged what he and Cordelia brought over from the manor, the old attendant waited for Aleksander’s further instructions. The vampire had sprawled precariously on the bed at the moment, his arm covering his eyes.

"Your majesty, are you asleep? Do you need anything else?" Henry asked, his voice soft.

"Leave, Henry," Aleksander groaned.

Henry obliged as he was told. He closed the heavy doors of the bedchamber, and right after released an exasperated huff. Things were going to be crucial now that Aleksander has seized the throne for himself.

The attendant’s eyes stared at the distance. His thoughts were full of worry of what tomorrow would bring them. One assassination on the same day his master announced he was alive – it didn’t look too promising at all.

"I can hear your thoughts loud and clear, Henry," Aleksander spoke on the other side. "Stop worrying about me and go find Elys and Cordelia. They must not stay out too late."

He heard Henry scurry out the hallways, his drumming heartbeat telling him Henry was embarrassed his thoughts were being heard by his master.

Aleksander didn’t pry in too much into Henry’s head as a respect to him, but sometimes the old man’s thoughts were too loud. Eventually, Aleksander would hear them without even intending to.

The young vampire lifted his arm away from his eyes, and white spots marred his vision for several seconds.

He released a heavy sigh, worrying over the fact that one look from Elys was enough to silence him. Aleksander was frustrated by the fact that Elys didn’t want to listen to him.

The young king knew she wasn’t a damsel in distress at all, but he couldn’t take chances with the number of vampires against him at the moment. The display of prowess before they took the crown was enough to confuse them, but that would deem ineffective in the long run.

The flickering flame from the room’s lamp casted shadows all around the large bedchamber, and the young king pondered on his next steps.

Elys’ requests were at the top of his lists now too, aside from getting revenge on those nobilities that mocked his entire existence.

Aleksander’s brows knitted together in concentration.

He knew the same vampires, as well as those commoners would not take Elys’ request to their liking, which then needed him to think of something swift and effective to eliminate them, but also liberate the slaves at the same time.
